As we sit here finalizing the catalog for our upcoming sale we reflect back on the many tragedies and natural disasters that have hit our nation and affected so many people. We watched as fires swept across Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Montana and we watched in horror as we saw hurricanes devastate Texas and ravage Florida; but we also sat with pride as we witnessed so many people come together to help those in need. We were in awe of the generosity and outpouring of love, compassion, and support that was extended to those affected, and we are so proud to be a part of this industry that pulls together in times of crises. It is the cattlemen and women that make Seedstock Production so rewarding for us, and we would like to extend our sincerest appreciation and admiration to each and every individual who helped in any way during all of this devastation. With the large number of losses that were incurred during all of these disasters, we realize that our industry is just beginning the steps of recovery and rebuilding of not only fences, structures and dwellings, but entire cow herds in some instances. We are pleased and honored to be in a position to contribute to this rebuilding with a solid offering of bulls that are both “Bred 4 Profit” and “Built 2 Work.” As our customers have come to expect from us, all of these bulls are ‘Grown on Grass,’ Fescue Adapted, and backed by our Quality Guarantee and 17 Quality Standards. Terms and Conditions: All cattle sell according to the terms and conditions recommended by the American Gelbvieh Association. Terms of the sale are cash. Every animal will be sold to the highest bidder. Announcements sale day take precedence over printed material in this catalog. All cattle are the property of the buyers as soon as sold and will be cared for until April 1st at no additional cost. Buyer may pickup their purchases anytime after the sale or Flying H Genetics will deliver according to their delivery policy as stated in the sale book. Any person attending the sale does so at their own risk. Neither the owners or Flying H Genetics assumes any liability, legal or otherwise. All animals listed in the catalog as being Homozygous Polled or Homozygous Black are done so to the best of our knowledge.
Absentee Bids: Anyone wishing to bid who cannot attend the sale may do so by calling for a buyer number and connecting to the conference phone call listed elseware in this catalog or register and view and bid online with DVAuction. Or, they may contact any of the sale staff or livestock press and place bids which will be handled in strict confidence and with buyers satisfaction guaranteed. Health and Breeding Soundness: All animals have been on a complete health program and health papers are available for all 48 states. All bulls will have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam and Semen Test prior to the sale. All sale animals have also been tested negative for PI BVD.
Since 1982 Flying H Genetics has guaranteed calving ease on every bull sold. Bulls for use on heifers are identified with a star system.

Are Fescue Adapted Bulls Better? Have you ever run a marathon, taken a driving test, played golf or went deer hunting without getting prepared? I doubt it, but if you did you probably did not do very well. So, why would you buy fat, lazy bulls that are fed way too much corn to look good and thick and then turn them out to work at breeding cows on Fescue grass for which they are not prepared? Yes, Fescue Adapted, Grown On Grass® bulls are better because their superior genetics are designed and developed to work for a living. They are athletic, conditioned and ready to do the job you expect them to do. They will not be fat but they are muscular, structurally sound with good feet and legs, and conditioned to work hard for you. Even if you don’t have Fescue grass, being Grown On Grass® ensures that our bulls will be able to perform, breed, and thrive on ANY type of grass/forage. It took a while to “figure it out” but developing bulls on Fescue Grass in Missouri is a customer friendly, proven concept that really does work. Our customers tell us our Grown On Grass® Fescue Adapted bulls are more aggressive, breed more cows and last longer because of the way we develop them. My family has been in the commercial cattle business since 1939. We raised Hereford and Hereford x Santa Gertrudis cattle for many years, and we started using Red Balancer bulls in the late 90’s. We started buying Flying H Genetics bulls over 17 years ago because hardly anyone was producing Red Balancer bulls at the time, and, when you did find them, the depth of quality was not there. Anyone can sell a good bull, but in my mind the depth of quality they offer and the fact that they are good, honest people is what sets Flying H apart. After more than 17 years of working with them, I have yet to attend a sale in person; I have bought over thirty plus bulls from them - all sightunseen and we have developed a relationship based on trust. Flying H is built around people who do what they say they are going to do, and, in this day and age, that is very important. My bull battery is made up of entirely FHG bulls, and I hope to continue to buy my bulls from them for many years to come.
As a third generation cattleman, I migrated our family operation from registered Angus to a commercial Angus based herd by crossing them with Simmental bulls. I used to buy feed-tested bulls until about five years ago when I decided that I needed bulls that would stand up and stay together when turned out on cows. The ‘Grown on Grass’ program that Flying H develops their bulls under produces bulls that keep their condition and do their job. Good feet and legs are important to any cattlemen and, since switching to Flying H Genetics bulls, I haven’t had to battle feet issues like I had in the past. Additionally, the growth and performance of the calves sired by my Flying H bulls is phenomenal. I contract all of my calves to a yard in Illinois and, after analyzing their data, the owner has contracted both my spring and fall born calves for three years in a row. The buyer receives 100% possession and resale or salvage value and 50% semen interest. - If Flying H Genetics chooses to utilize their semen interest, they will coordinate with the owner and pay all expenses for their semen. If a semen sales market develops on a bull, Flying H Genetics will work with the owner to promote and sell semen splitting the expenses and income 50/50. Again, this semen reserve does not affect the buyer’s ability to have full use of and receive full sale price for the bull with the semen reserve following the bull to the new owner. 12. FHG STAR RANKING SYSTEM—This system ranks cattle in five major areas of customer genetic needs—Disposition, Growth, Muscle, Carcass and Maternal. In Missouri, where bulls are grown on fescue grass, we measure and rank them in a sixth area of need—Foragability. Disposition—1H & 2H culled, 3H Good, 4H Better, 5H Best. Growth, Muscle, Carcass, Maternal and Foragability—3H ranking identifies breed average genetics for the trait, a 4H ranks them within the top 50% to 25% of the breed and a 5H ranks them within the top 25% of the breed genetically for the traits. Information used to develop these rankings includes performance measurements of the individual animal, his sire and his dam, EPD’s and ultrasound data. Foragability – the scores for this rank system are derived from analysis of three important factors: 1. the individuals Grown On Grass gain ratio (how well he performed when compared to others eating the same fescue grass), 2. we examine the fat thickness of the individual ultrasound results (greater fat cover suggests and more easily fleshing animal) and/or DNA analysis & evaluation of his GE EPDs, and 3. the animals physical design is evaluated for capacity (individuals with more “guts” tend to be better foragers). Our Star Ranking System combines all the data into a simple ranking system to help you easily find the specific genetics you need for a trait or combination of traits. All Flying H Bulls and Females have been multi-trait and parentage DNA tested. The correct parentage and Genomically Enhanced (GE) EPDs provide you with the most accurate genetic information possible. This tremendous tool will help you make more accurate buying decisions because: • DNA testing is not influenced by the environment. For example, more than half a calf’s actual birth weight is influenced by things like the weather and feed—non genetic factors. Genomically Enhanced Birth (BW) and Calving Ease (CE) EPDs are many times more accurate to identify a bulls birth and calving ease genetics or select “Heifer Bulls” than their actual birth weight. • Greater confidence in getting the genetics you want. Since the multi trait DNA analysis identifies actual genetics of an animal, the information is available years before progeny information can be used to prove a parents true genetics. • Genomically Enhanced EPDs support higher accuracies and less potential variation. This information is equivalent to having produced several progeny--without ever producing a calf. • You can identify superior sires and dams long before they produce any calves. You don’t have to wait to 4 or 5 years to get a good handle on just how good the bull or cow is. • Since the genetic predictions (EPDs) are more accurate, you

• Since the DNA analysis includes parentage verification all pedigrees are accurate. A percentage of all registered animals have incorrect parentage. A common mistake is misidentifying if the sire is an AI or pasture mating. Obviously, if the wrong sire or dam is used to estimate the calf’s genetics, the result is not very accurate. • Note the chart of progeny equivalents. This indicates the power of genomic information. And it’s available as soon as a sample can be sent to the lab. • Genomics are not a silver bullet. Although DNA analysis has given us a tremendous boost in understanding an animal’s genetics, not all genetic traits have been identified and mapped and may things, like phenotype/structural soundness, disposition and teat and udder quality take visual appraisal. No matter how much science we utilize, it still takes some cowboy common sense and experience to identify the truly superior cattle. That’s why Flying H Genetics continues to utilize our 17 Quality Standards to identify and cull the inferior animals, no matter what the numbers say.

In order to illustrate this boost in accuracy delivered by HD 50K in practical terms, Zoetis (formerly known as Pfizer) and AGI have quantified the added dependability of GE-EPDs, as compared to pedigree predictions for each trait, in units of progeny equivalents (see table below). In other words, how many progeny would have to be available with documented performance data to achieve these same gains in accuracy? Across the spectrum of traits evaluated by GE-EPDs, progeny equivalents from HD 50K ranged from 7 to over 30 progeny.

Cattle are a herd instinct animal. Seperate them from the herd and their natural response is to flee back to the group or fight for their life. Domesticating them has gentled them but their natural instincts of flight and fight are still there at varying degrees. Generally, the sooner and more often cattle are in contact with and handled by humans in a calm, nonthreatening way, the more trusting and less flighty or threatened they will feel. Knowing this, our system seperates an individual animal from the group into a small pen with one or two people to add a common stressor. Since all cattle have a different disposition (just like people) this will create different degrees of nervousness, flight and fight that can be scored. Scoring the different levels of nervousness, flight and fight allows us to identify different levels of disposition. The scores range from 1 to 5 with 5 being the most calm. This is a subjective score but certain actions help group the cattle into the five different levels. Following is a general description of the type of actions observed while scoring that help rank each individual’s disposition. One Star–animal is very nervous and agitated and is looking for an escape route. Will not stop and stand, tests the fence and will show fight and turn on you if pressed. When the out gate is opened he leaves on the run. He’s always at the back of a group, head up and keeps his distance. He will make others nervous and flighty and is hard to sort from the group. Anything new will create great distress and he will get more agitated the longer he’s held seperately. Due to safety issues, these are culled immediately. Two Star–animal is nervous and very uncomfortable. He will keep moving, walking the fence and trot or run if approached. Not as likely to show fight but will exit fast. Very observant and

keeps his distance even in a group. He will be a little hard to sort from the group. He’s always nervous and flighty in a strange situation. He presents a safety concern and causes handling problems with the whole herd so is culled asap. Three Star–animal is uncomfortable wanting to keep distance. He will stop but is very attentive and moves without much pressure. He’ll exit at a fast walk or slight trot. Handles fine in a group but gets nervous when seperated, wanting to rejoin the herd. Can get excited if pressured or forced out of comfort zone so low stress, low pressure handling helps. Four Star–animal moves when pressure is applied but will stop easily. Will stand and allow you to approach but not get too close. Exits at a walk. Fast movements, loud noises and strange situations will make him nervous. Low stress handling works great. Five Star–animal is very calm and gentle, easy to sort and move. Will stand, allow you to approach and maybe touch him and may even approach you. Needs to be urged to leave the pen. Can get excited but calms down quickly. Responds well to proper handling.
B r eeding soundness development & exam Every bull we sell has had a thorough breeding soundness exam of his testicles for size, conformation, and overall quality. His prostate and seminal vesicles are also examined via reticle palpation to make sure he is free of any infection. Each bull has given a high quality semen sample examined under a microscope by a veterinarian. Furthermore, each bull receives the following Pre-Breeding season shots for his protection and durability: • Pour on wormer • Ultrabac 7 – 7 way Blackleg (Clostridial vaccine) • Express 3 VL5 BI – 5 way Lepto, Vibrio, BVD Type 1 & 2, IBR – modified live • Autogenous Pinkeye implant – made with local pinkeye strains (7 distinct strains) from around this area. It is a very effective vaccination protocol. Implant is place under the skin for slow release and extra protection. • Individual metal ID ear clip that will correspond to all state and federal regulations for animal identification. Because disposition is a very important management and safety issue, Flying H Genetics has researched and developed a system to score all of their cattle, including any cattle sold for breeding purposes, for disposition to eliminate the unacceptable ones. We have been culling on disposition for years but scoring them quantifies and indentifies them more accurately making culling more accurate and effective.

Show Me Select Heifer Qualified It is very important to correctly identify bulls to be used on first calf heifers. Therefore, we use a combination of two tools. We start with the guidelines for heifer bull qualification established by the University of Missouri Extension’s Show-Me Select Heifer Program. This system ranks bulls with the desired amount of calving ease or CE to work on heifers and minimize any chance of calving difficulty due to the size and shape of the calf. The Show-Me Select Program has set minimum thresholds for CE that a bull must have to be used on a heifer. Furthermore, those standards are based on EPDs calculated by breed associations only - i.e. no generically calculated numbers. We also use some data we collect to help strengthen the accuracy of this process. We analyze a bull’s birth weight and physical design to assess their ability to make a “sleep at night” CE bull. All Bulls in this catalog that meet or exceed the standards set by the Show-Me Select Program and our secondary evaluation will be identified by the following HEIFER BULL starburst by their LOT. Since we sell cattle nationwide, fuel and equipment costs force us to put some limits on free delivery. The seed stockbusiness, like all other businesses, must address the costs of product delivery as part of their overall customer service plan. To treat every customer fairly, we have established the following delivery policy: A. Every animal valued over $3,000 will be delivered free within 200 miles of sale location. B. All other animals valued over $3,000 will be delivered the first 200 miles free with additional miles prorated per head with freight charges guaranteed not to exceed $250 per head. C. D eath & I n j u r y W arra n t y Flying H Genetics has offered to share death and injury losses suffered during the first breading season with customers for years. After some confusion over the old warranty and interest by many customers to cover the full cost of their purchases at a reasonable cost, we have initiated the following new warranty. COVERAGE/LIMITATIONS The coverage of this warranty is limited to the first breeding season or a maximum of 6 months from the date of purchase, unless other arrangements are made ahead of time. Indemnity under this warranty covers all death and loss-of-use injuries except those caused by negligence or willful misconduct or mistreatment of the bulls covered. Replacement value will be limited to actual purchase cost of the Flying H Genetics bull covered minus any salvage value or other compensation received by the customer. CLAIMS All claims for death or injury must be reported to Flying H Genetics within 24 hours of discovery and a complete diagnosis by a licensed veterinarian must be reported. INJURED If the injury is not life threatening or permanent and the bull can be returned to service, Flying H Genetics will work with the customer to supply a replacement bull to use at no cost, until the original bull can be returned to service. LOSS DUE TO INJURY If the injury is permanent and prevents the bull from returning to service, Flying H Genetics will supply a replacement bull as close to the original bull’s type and quality as possible to complete the first breeding season. At the end of the breeding season, the customer can keep the bull as
the replacement bull as fulfillment of this warranty or return him to Flying H Genetics and receive credit on a replacement in next year’s sale. The credit will equal the price of the original bull minus salvage value if any from the original bull. The customer agrees to provide humane care and obtain maximum salvage value from the injured bull. This guarantees the customer a bull to get their cows bred and full compensation for the purchase price of the bull through a replacement they get to pick and price. LOSS DUE TO DEATH When a Flying H Genetics bull dies between the date of purchase and the end of the first breeding season, through no fault of the customer as described above, Flying H Genetics will supply a replacement bull, as close to the original bull’s type and quality as possible, to finish out the breeding season. At the end of the breeding season, the customer can either keep the replacement bull as fulfillment of this warranty or return him to Flying H Genetics and receive credit on a replacement in next year’s sale. This credit will equal the purchase price of the original bull minus any compensation received if insured by an insurance company. This guarantees the customer a bull to get their cows bred and full compensation for the purchase price of the bull through a replacement they get to pick and price. COST Cost for the death and injury warranty will be 5% of purchase price, due at the time of purchase. If a customer chooses not to cover their animal against death and injury, they assume all loss due to death or injury of their bull. This warranty does not affect other customer services like the quality and calving ease guarantees that all Flying H Genetics bulls carry.
