Design has the power to transform more than just space. It can positively change our planet, our environment, and people’s lives. Institutional spaces narrate, commemorate and educate. Create memorable installations that feature the skills of women in developing countries. 3form develops the Full Circle Ž Collection of products in collaboration with skilled artisans in diverse regions. From Africa to Nepal, we work directly with these groups to bring authentic regional hand crafts to the architecture and design community. Through this process we encourage the development of their skills, their business and ultimately the community at large.

16

®

1. Raw Materials In the beginning, Full Circle products come from the earth. Their core is the hemp that grows tall in fields bordering Nepalese villages, the lush coconut palms that sway deep in Colombia’s coastal regions. These natural creations are the seeds of potential. 2. Farmers and Artisans The raw materials are crafted by passionate hands into something new. Around the world, whether high in the mountains, or down in the plains, skilled artisans weave and spin, dry and stretch. They transform the materials into crafted creations such as ribbons of Jaguri silk, and cross-hatched sheets of bamboo and hemp.

3form thanks Docey Lewis Designs and Aid to Artisans. These unique organizations, committed to helping artisan groups around the world, have provided invaluable connections and continue to help these relationships thrive. www.aidtoartisans.org

3. Design Full Circle spins again when 3form designers begin to collaborate with the global artisans. Through a process of research, experimentation and refinement, traditional crafts are transformed into large 4'x 8' and 4'x 10' patterns. When complete, the Full Circle products are ready to travel from the artisans and specialists to you. 4. Community Every client that purchases a Full Circle product makes a difference. The new income from each sale is introduced to the artisans’ communities. This money funds educational programs that fight illiteracy, improves living conditions, and creates positive momentum. From third world to first world, and back to third world again, the Full Circle cycle is complete. With each Full Circle product specification, the program’s positive impact grows larger still. 5. Reclaim + Sustain Meanwhile, another cycle begins – 3form’s Reclaim program. All Full Circle products – which already contain 40% post-industrial reclaimed material – can be reclaimed and used again and again and again. Together, Reclaim and Full Circle guarantee products with a positive social impact, and a miniscule environmental footprint. The best of both worlds.

CONNECTION | FULL CIRCLE

The Nepal Workshop

In a country with a tumultuous economy and the highest illiteracy rate in Asia, 3form is committed to human development. 3form works with our dedicated Nepalese partner, Lhakpa Sherpa, offering valuable opportunities to underserved artisans. Through his wife’s connection with the Kathmandu Association of the Deaf, Lakpa employs members of the deaf community. He also provides work for skilled weavers, whose jobs almost became obsolete through the technological advancement of the power loom. From remote villages in the Everest Base Camp region to Nepal’s busy capital Kathmandu, 3form’s products have successfully created hundreds of new jobs in one of the poorest countries in South East Asia. As one of the first graduates of the Himalayan school funded by Sir Edmund Hillary, our partner values education. The organization provides educational opportunities for young female employees facing illiteracy and exploitation. 4% of the proceeds from the 3form Full Circle products are reserved for school funding. The workers are also among very few in Nepal who are offered medical benefits.

THE CONNECTION STORY

Varia Ecoresin ® – Connection Pure

Literally reviving the silk industry from near annihilation, 3form Connection provides income for hundreds of Nepalese villagers. This vast group includes the families who tend the silk worms in their attics, the farmers who grow the mulberry plant to feed the worms, the silk traders and finally the skilled workers who soak, pull and place the delicate strands in precise formation.
