REVEAL & CONCEAL PERSONAL STATEMENT SEATTLE CENTRAL LIBRARY CHE-YI LIN
AS AN ARCHITECTURE LEARNER, THE HIGHLY PERCEPTION OF EVERY DETAILS IN LIFE SHOULD BE ACQUIRED, WHICH INCLUDE THE INTERACTION OF HUMAN, NATURE AND THE ATTITUDE OF LIFE. IN MY OPINION, A CULTURE WHICH GIVES BIRTH TO THE ARCHITECTURE IS HOW THE PEOPLE DEFINE THEIR LIVES. I WOULD LIKE TO SEEK FOR A BETTER LIFE AND HAVE THE DESIRE FOR BEAUTIFUL THINGS. BUILDING PEOPLE’S LIFE IS WHAT ARCHITECTURE MEANS TO ME.

REVEAL & CONCEAL SEATTLE CENTRAL LIBRARY
Designing a stimulating and abstract composition that inspired by the Seattle central library(OMA). The Seattle cuntral library strongly shows the strength of the structure and the visual impact, so ‘Form follows function’ first came to my mind before I started to design this project. This concept became the core in the further design. To decide a proper material for my design was a defficult phasw during the process. Fristly, I tried to use some transparent materials such as plastic films to be the facade of the main part, but the surface of plastic film did not appear a good quality of texture that I expected, the surface could not demonstrate most of the features like glass has. Therefore, I changed to another method to express the quality of glass by emphasising each main material in an individual way.

TANGIBLE & INTANGIBLE CUBE PROJECT
By understanding the project brief, we are going to create space rather than define space. I would like to create tensions by different depth of layers, this also gives the potential of the special quality that I would like to achieve in this project. In my design, I decided to set Tangible and Intangible as the contrast of my cube design. For further explanation of this concept, I was trying to break the mold of a cube, and I think less can give more. After some experiments, I thought the technic of folding paper would be the best method to meet the requirements of our project because folding paper is a very instinctive way to create space and can use material very efficiently. Developed from this concept, I used many implied designs to balance and integrate the missing corners which were folded inside like hollows, and also I keep the original trace of a complete square, these just like the projection of each objects.

The cube seems look like incomplete and physically lose some significant parts as a cube, but these projections followed the form of the structure and greatly offered an intriguing view to help and guide to reveal the black sphere inside. With these combination of tangible objects and intangible feelings, they conjured a very special quality both inside and outside and generate every details as a whole.

Followed the symbolic sign, seeking upstream to the summit instinctively. Time seems slack in the alley, and doesnt allow hustle invade in. The old wall padded with the green moss.
Leading by the changes of light and shade. Dramatic lights conjured a fascinating scene. As phototaxis. Lights in the shadow in the daytime. Time leaves some traces on the wall.
Sprouds and old bricks. Contrast of light and shade shapes a clear edge. Connot get a through look of the twisted alley; above that, the scenery stands out vividly from the darkness. Sound of train passing through the arch bridge.

DESIGN & TECHNICAL SKILL
I attended a project of building a friendly community. This was a concept about Anthroposophy. To make a combination of humanities and beauty into living was the goal of our plan. In this case, I started the initial design with my understanding of what I experienced from Waldorf education, and modeled several sample as the selections for the further development. 07

DRAWINGS & WORKS Playing with light and shadow on the paper, that is not just a two dimensional practice, it also gives a most sensible method to experience the sense.
