Dear Student: Welcome to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and to the Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP). I am happy that you have chosen to study with us. Before classes begin, please attend the CIEP student orientation program at UNI. Most of the orientation sessions are mandatory for all new CIEP students. It is a good introduction to life at the University and a great chance to become familiar with UNI rules and regulations. At the orientation program you will also learn about the services available to you at the University. Campus tours and social activities will allow you to meet some of the current students as well as other new international students. As you make your travel plans, it is important to remember:  You are encouraged to arrive on campus on August 19, 2013.  Please send your arrival information before August 2nd by filling out the online Arrival Information form at: http://www.uni.edu/ciep/prospective-students/arrival. We will arrange for airport pickups for those students arriving at the nearby Waterloo Airport (Airport code: ALO) or Eastern Iowa Airport (Airport code: CID, located farther away in the city of Cedar Rapids).  In an emergency, you may call the UNI Public Safety at 319-273-4000.  As soon as possible after you arrive on campus, please bring your travel and immigration documents to the CIEP office at Baker Hall, Room 72.  If you will live in the dormitories on Campus, please note that you will need to bring your own linens (bed sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket, towel and washcloth) or you may purchase a full set upon arrival for $45 dollars.  This orientation program is subjected to changes. Please go to http://www.uni.edu/ciep/prospective-students/orientation-program to verify that you have the most current program. Welcome to CIEP! Sincerely,

Philip Plourde Director
