KNOW THE LAW New South Wales has strict drink driving and drug laws and NSW Police actively conduct roadside alcohol and drug tests. Drivers holding a full license must stay below the 0.05 blood alcohol limit, while learner and provisional drivers must not have any alcohol in their system. It is illegal to drive while impaired by drugs or drive with the presence of illicit drugs in your system.

Signage & Safety tips

While we all want to get to our holiday destination quickly, we need to take care when travelling. Here are some tips • Take breaks regularly • Respect the speed limit and • Avoid driving fatigued and look for early warning signs - yawning, poor concentration, sore eyes or drowsiness

Signage Take advantage of the Stop, Revive and Survive at one of the more than 1,400 rest areas and Driver Reviver sites across the state. Driver Reviver sites offer a chance to take a safe break and stretch your legs safely.

Seatbelts Remember to ensure everyone travelling in the car is wearing a seatbelt at all times. One in five drivers are still killed in country areas when not wearing a seatbelt. Wearing a seatbelt nearly doubles your chance of surviving a serious crash and reduces the risk of serious injury.

If you are unsure if your prescriptive drugs will affect your driving, check the label on the packet or consult your GP. Remember it is also illegal to use a handheld mobile/cellphone while driving. This includes texting, calling or taking photographs on a scenic drive. Learner and provisional P1 drivers or riders and are not allowed to use mobile /cell phones, even in hands free mode, whilst driving or riding. Information provided by Transport for NSW.

Children under seven years of age are required to be secured in a correctly fitted and approved child restraint or booster seat.

Suggested Itinerary I

Day 1 Leaving Sydney, today you’ll explore some of the world’s whitest beaches and if a cruise takes your fancy, enjoy watching dolphins in the pristine marine park of Port Stephens. From late May to early November, watch magnificent hump back whales make their annual migration along our extensive coastline. Take a leisurely paddle in a kayak and enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the idyllic locations along the way. On land, explore the mountainous formations of the Worimi Conversation sand dune wilderness, get up close and personal with a cuddly koala and savour a bush tucker experience or simply relax on the beach.

Must see and do • Enjoy dolphin and whale watching in their natural environment • Savour freshly caught seafood, oysters, locally brewed beers and marine side dining • Low lying and hilltop nature walks and meeting the local koalas

Day 2 Leaving Port Stephens, travel north to Coffs Harbour, home of the Big Banana and magnificent subtropical hinterland teeming with bird life, waterfalls and towering treetops of the Dorrigo National Park.

Day 3 Leaving Coffs Harbour after breakfast, it’s a relaxed 3 hour drive to arrive around lunch time in Byron Bay. Enjoy a walk up to the lighthouse to view the most easterly point of Australia and the surfers sharing waves with dolphins way below. Visit the historic town of Newrybar 15 minutes away for lunch and take in an afternoon massage or healing session in one of the many resorts or one at the markets.

Day 4 Enjoy a relaxed morning by the beach, a trip to the farmers markets or a drive to Minyon Falls. From Byron Bay, you are a short drive from Ballina-Byron Airport, Gold Coast Airport or Brisbane Airport to depart for onward domestic or international ports.

Day 4 Start your morning early so that you can take your time on your journey to Coffs Coast where the mountain escarpments greet the sea. Your journey will take you through the Macleay Valley to the historic town of Bowraville then to Nambucca Heads where you can sample local oysters, avocados and macadamias. Aboriginal Elders have for the first time shared sacred and contemporary stories as podcasts on The Legendary Pacific Coast website and iPhone app. There are currently 34 Aboriginal stories shared by the Worimi, Birpai, Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr people of the NSW coast with more being recorded and collated through local Aboriginal Land Councils. The Aboriginal Elders are generously sharing their stories to keep them alive for future generations and all who seek a closer understanding of the Aboriginal Culture and its relevance to place.

First, stop in Port Stephens, the dolphin capital of Australia.
