Spring Lambs
More spring lambs on offer, once again to our full ring side of buyers. The sale topped at £167 for a pen of Texel lambs from JS Horner, Ingleton. Smart pens of Texels sold to £163 from H Cooper & Son, Inskip with the best lambs regularly selling at 360 to 380p/kg. Heavy bred lambs are always keen bid for at Lancaster market with Charollais selling to £158 from JA Lambert, Out Rawcliffe. Full pens of Suffolks sold to £156 from JS Horner, Ingleton. An overall market averaged was achieved of 332p/kg, for all types and weights.

Prime Hoggs
Meated hoggs still met a fast trade, with a lovely run of Beltex hoggs from T Taylor, Woodplumpton selling to a top of £179 with other pens selling to £173. Texels from AJ Cardwell, St Michaels sold to £147, with Suffolks at £145 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne. Mules topped at £140 from RG&H Preece, Roeburndale. Lesser meated hoggs still met demand but sold to lesser rates than previous weeks, a respectable overall market average of 261p/kg was achieved.

Ewes met a flying trade with Beltexs selling to £186 from H Cooper & Son, Inskip. Texels topped at £176 from W&D Bradley, Preston. The best Continental bred ewes were regularly selling at £160 to £170. Mules sold to a top of £128 from T&EA Garth, Bleasdale. Plenty of heavy Mules sold in the £120’s. Hill ewes saw a top of £124 for Cheviots from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead. Rough Fells sold to £117 from WJ&EA Woodhouse, Nateby.

Spring Lambs
A wonderful run of spring lambs from W Garnett & Sons, Milnthorpe peaked todays sale at £183 for Texels. Other smart bred Texel lambs from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe sold to £175. First draw lambs from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland saw his best Suffolk Mule lambs sell to £174. Once again weight was in keen interest at Junction 36 with many pens of lambs selling at the £160 to £170 mark. Best bred lambs were regularly selling at 375 to 380p/kg. Topping at 390p/kg for a full pen of Beltex x lambs from Dave and Karen Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. First class hoggs with lambs were eagerly bid for, however some second class hoggs and lambs were harder to place. Once again Winter Brothers, Clickham brought a wonderful run of hoggs which saw their best pen selling to £310, with other pens from the same good home to £300. All Continental bred hoggs with lambs sold to a flying trade with JC&E Pendley & Sons, Sedbergh best pen selling to £285, with other pens to £260 from G&KM Atkinson, Colby. An overall average for all Continental hoggs with lambs of £252. The continued flock reduction from P Mason, Burton in Kendal saw Cheviot Mule one crop ewes with Beltex lambs sell to £259. Texel shearlings from RG&H Preece, Roeburndale sold to £268. Aged Mule ewes sucking twin lambs from P Mason, Burton in Kendal sold to £260. More hill ewes were on offer today with new buyers round the ring ensuring a strong trade. Cheviot shearlings with single Cheviot lambs from Naddle Farms sold to £150. A run of broken mouthed Herdwick ewes from Kirby & Longworth, Kentmere saw ewes with twins sell to £122. Prime Hoggs
A reduced entry of 300 hoggs were forward, as seen in previous weeks there was a two tier trade with meat and weight selling to a premium and store types meeting restriction. Strong Texel hoggs from R&T Robinson, Old Hutton sold to £169. Other Texel hoggs sold to £165 from Holgates, Silverdale. Heavy Cheviot hoggs sold to £163 from The Inman Family, Witherslack. 50kg plus meated hoggs were regularly selling at £145 to £155. A respectable averaged of 252p/kg was achieved.

Cast Sheep
410 cull ewes continue to sell to a fast trade, overall average today was £91.52 for an entry of predominantly medium and small ewes. The best continental ewes sold to £195 for Texel from RT Robinson, Old Hutton with others at £176 from M&S Blease, Carnforth and £166 from M Allen, Carnforth. All heavy ewes generally selling £145-£160. Medium continental ewes sold to £138 for Texel x from P Mason, Burton in Kendal with others at £136 from PW & G Robinson, Ingleton. Heavy mules sold to £136 from D&C Middleton, Carnforth with others to £131 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. All pens of stronger mules selling from £110-£125 with mediums from £90-£108.
Hill bred ewes sold to £134 for a pen of Cheviot from Stockdale Farms, Sedbergh with others at £128 from SM Watson, Ulverston. Dalesbred to £126 from RG Woodhouse, Scorton. Rough Fell to £125 from W Beck & Son, Tebay and Swaledale to £114 from JF&AW Sutton, Longsleddale. All classes of ewes will be required to satisfy buyers demand over the next few weeks.
Cull rams sold to £168 for Texel with others at £167 and £164 with an entry of predominantly medium rams selling from £108-£135.

Dairy Cattle
A keen interest in the trio of dairy cows forward from R&K Jenkinson, Pilling with an abundance of buyers ringside taking advantage of the ability to do all their trading on one day. Third calved cows sold to £1950, with fourth calvers at £1750 and £1480.
The next sale is on Friday 16th June with an entry of six British Friesian new calved heifers already entered from one farm. A large number of dairy cattle has been traded privately this week, for all buying and selling requirements please contact Matthew Probert on 07540446667.
Calves & Weanlings
Another quality entry of calves from a large number of farmer customers continued to sell to exceptionally high demand. British Blue x bull calves sold to £595 from AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel with others at £500 and £485 from T Barron Farms Ltd, Preston and £475 from JP&C Robson, Garstang. Native sired bull calves sold to £490 for Aberdeen Angus x from T Barron Farms Ltd, Preston who sold others at £445 and £435. Hereford x sold to £385 from J Gerrard & Son, Thurnham. Younger rearing calves sold to £380 for an Aberdeen Angus from D&K
Haworth, Hambleton who sold others at £355. Young British Blue x sold to £340 from JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore. Dairy bulls sold to £130 for a month old Holstein Friesian from D&K Howarth, Hambleton. Heifer calves sold to £425 on two occasions for British Blue x from JP&C Robson, Garstang and Tom Barron Farms Ltd, Preston with others at £405 from JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore. A bumper entry of native sired heifers saw the best sell to £345 for Aberdeen Angus x with others at £295, £280 and £270. Younger native sired heifer calves sold to £220 for an Aberdeen Angus x from RT Halhead, Cockerham. Todays sale included the young handlers prize show and sale which saw Robert Standen, Lancaster win the first prize rosette with his British Blue steer, which went on to sell at £850. Thomas Anderton won the second price rosette which sold at £770.
Already entered for next week is 50 native and Continental weaned calves from three farms.

Store Cattle
Store cattle were a blistering trade from start to finish, with buyers competing for all classes and types. Steers sold to a top price of £1840 for a trio of Charolais x from R&EA Gardner, Briggsteer. Closely followed by another trio of Charollais x from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet selling at £1800. Other well grown steers were regularly selling between £1500-£1700. Native sired steers peaking at £1720 for Aberdeen Angus’s from R Collinge & Son, Kirkham. An entry of yearling British Blue x steers sold to £1080 from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham. Dairy bred steers sold to £1420 for British Friesians from EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg with Holstein Friesians selling to £1380 from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel and Fleckviehs to £1280 from M Noblett, Preston. Heifers achieved a top price of £1480 for Aberdeen Angus x from R&E Ladds, Kendal and British Blues x from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel. Other stronger end heifers were regularly £1300-1400, to include Aberdeen Angus at £1400 from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel. Ten month old British Blue x heifers from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham achieved £960.
Another nice entry of feeding bulls sold to £1300 for Limousin x.

OTM Cattle
NWA Lancaster once again is the leading Lancashire cull cow market, with customers in a attendance from through out the Northern Counties. Well bred beef cows sold to 254p/kg for a Limousin x with others regularly 235p/kg-240p/kg. Dairy cows sold to a top price of 239.5p/kg for a Montbeliarde with Holstein Friesian to 231.5p/kg. Other heavy well fleshed dairy cows were 202p/kg-215p/kg. All cull cows today averaged 201p/kg. Top grossing cow today was a Simmental achieving £2012 with a future ten over £2000 and another nine over £1500.
Steers sold to 149.5p/kg and £2045 for a Limousin x with dairy bred steers selling to 239.5p/kg and £1441 for a Norwegian Red & White.
Heifers sold to 249.5p/kg for a Norwegian Red & White with a Saler achieving £1657. Cull bulls sold to 229.5p/kg for a Limousin and £2167 for an Aberdeen Angus x.
