J36 Rural Auction Centre: June Big Items Online Machinery Sale.
The popular monthly collective sale of machinery once again saw over 1200 lots on offer and selling to all corners of the UK and beyond.
Seasonal equipment selling to a premium with balers, tedders and mowers seeing plenty of interest selling from £800-£3000.
Livestock equipment saw a Monsoon sheep shower sell at £4800, a Bateman cattle crush sell at £2400, a sheep handling race sold to £880, a sheep turnover crate sold at £500 and some sheep weigh scales made £420.
A few highlights of the sale were a John Deere 6310 with loader direct from a local farm which sold at £18500 back to a local farmer. Chieftan low loader trailer made £5000, A David Brown 995 with loader sold to £3800, A Marshall silage trailer sold at £2900, Massey Fergusson 135 selling to £2900 and a Yamaha ATV sold to £1000.

Spring Lambs
A full ringside of nine active buyers, once again ensuring a competitive trade. The sale topped with a full ring full of Texel lambs from JS Horner, Ingleton at £163 with other smart bred lambs selling to £152 for Charollais from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham. Heavy lambs were once again adding up nicely with Suffolks selling at £147 from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock with Texels to the same price from H Birkett & Son, Heaton. Lighter bred lambs, full of meat would be the trade of the day with 39kg Beltex lambs from KA Purtill, Wigan selling to £140 and Texels selling to the same price from JS Horner, Ingleton. A run of 36kg lambs from BR&S Carter, Pilling sold to £120.

The hogg trade was flying with an overall average of 280p/kg for 200 forward. Top price of the day was £152 for Texels from AG Butler, Hambleton with other heavy Texels selling to £150 from D Dickinson, Thurnham. Cheviots sold to £147 from EW&JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge. Many heavy Continental hoggs sold at £140 plus.

The ewe trade goes from strength to strength with 134 averaging £131 per head. Top price saw a pair of Texels from GR&RA Surtees, Stodday. A pen of five Texel ewes from H Cooper & Son, Inskip sold to £184 with Charollais’s selling to £180 from S Blackligde, Wigan. Many smart bred Continental ewes regularly sold at £170 plus. Mule ewes saw a pen of ten from J Burr, Quernmore sell to £138. Cheviots sold to £138 from S Blacklidge, Wigan. More ewes are needed on a weekly basis for our keen ringside of buyers.

Spring Lambs
An increased entry of spring lambs once again at J36, with all weights seeing an increased trade on the week achieving an overall market average of 316p/kg. More interest was show in all heavy lambs with the best bred heavy lambs selling at £170 plus. The top price achieved was Texel lambs from E Dodgson, Kendal. Others sold to £177 from EJ&P Burrow, Storth. A total of ten pens achieved £170 plus. Lambs weighing 39-44kg achieved an average of 321p/kg, with these seeing the biggest demand from buyers. A run of light lambs were met with a keen interest from buyers, with 34kg lambs from a Taylor & Sons, Scotland selling to £117. A full pen of twenty 34kg lambs from Hornby Hall, Penrith sold at £110.

Cheviot Mule hoggs with Texel lambs from SE&A Gorst, Littledale sold to £200. A pen of twelve Mule hoggs with young Suffolk lambs from RC Wharton & Son, Drybeck sold to £180. Ewes saw a selective trade with the on-going dry weather putting a few customers off. Aged Texel ewes sucking twin lambs from RE Briggs, Wennington sold to £220. Mule two crop ewes sucking single lambs from DC Knipe, Tebay sold to £188.

A super entry of 408 hoggs were forward with trade to match, seeing an overall average of 276p/kg achieved. Once again weight was adding up well, with £170 achieved for Texels from DM Bargh, Heaton with full pens of Suffolk hoggs from CG Birkett, Carnforth selling to £168. Continental hoggs 48kg-55kg were regularly selling at £145 to £155. A super run of well finished hoggs from GM&A Jackson, Little Eccleston saw their run of 140 average 300p/kg, with the best seeing 43kg Cheviot hoggs sell to £136. A keen interest is still show by all buyers for the upcoming festival.

A nice entry of 323 ewes sold to an overall averaged of £102 a head, with a large number of hill bred ewes coming forward week on week. Heavy ewes sold to a top price of £165 for a pair of Texels from E Dodgson, Kendal who sold others at £161 and £158. Other heavy ewes regularly sold £145 to £155. Mules sold to £140 from J Twigge, Lindal with a pen full from G Sagar & Son, Caton selling at £137. Other pens of stronger Mules were generally £122 to £132. Medium ewes regularly sold at £96 to £110, depending on bred and quality. Hill bred ewes sold to a top of £116 for Cheviots from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with Swaledale to £94 from JF&AW Sutton, Selside and Rough Fells to £82 from AJ&CM Harrison, Kentmere. The leanest ewes were keenly bid for, generally achieving £48 to £60.
Cull rams sold to a top price of £166 for a Texel from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping with Blue Faced Leicesters achieving £156 from TMW&H Hodgson, Nibthwaite who sold others at £150. Hill bred rams sold to £120 for Cheviots from Stockdale Farms with Swaledales at £118, Rough Fells £116 and Dalesbreds £110.

108 calves were forward selling to a fast trade, with a packed ring side of buyers in attendance capable of handling over 200 at each sale.
Bull calves sold to £615 for an eight week old Charolais x from JH Towers & Son, Carnforth who also sold British Blue x at £590. A pair of British Blue x ten week old calves from JW&T Sharp Ltd, Lyth achieved £510. Closely followed by a 6 week old Limousin x from K Wrathall Ltd, Broughton in Furness achieving £480. Younger bull calves for rearing were regularly £280-£320. Topping at £330 for a Simmental x from MW&PA Rollason, Meathop. Native sired calves sold to £365 for an Aberdeen Angus x from Whitestone Farms, Penrith with three week old Hereford x to £270 from MH&SJ Morris, Grange Over Sands and Beef Shorthorns selling to £250 from RG&J Clarke, Endmoor. Dairy bulls sold to £210 for a Fleckvieh from RG&J Clark, Endmoor who sold others at £190. Holstien Friesians sold to £170 from Whitestone Farms, Penrith and £150 from JN&DJ Bowes. All dairy bull calves averaged £142 with nothing over 28 days old.

A younger entry of steers sold to £700 for six month old Aberdeen Angus’s, with five month old British Blue x selling to £630, Aberdeen Angus at £530 and yearling Holstien Frisians sold to £620. Another large entry of cull cows were forward today with nearly all being parlour type dairy cows, selling to a full ring side of eleven active buyers, keen to secure all classes and types. Only a few beef cows were forward today, selling to 209.5p/kg on three occasions for a British Blue x from S Thompson, Flookburgh, Limousin x from CP Bateman, Docker and an Aberdeen Angus x from JJ&J Towers, Lowick Green. Top grossing beef cow was a British Blue x from H Knipe, Ulverston achieving £1572.
Dairy cows sold to 199.5p/kg for a Holstein Friesian from R Cowin & Sons, Mansergh with other dairy cows direct out of the parlour regularly achieving 175p/kg-190p/kg, depending on quality and type. Top grossing dairy cow was an Ayrshire again from H Knipe, Ulverston achieving £1498, closely followed by a Holstein Friesian from Jenkin Cragg Farm, Kendal totalling £1475.
OTM heifers sold to 244.5p/kg and £1813 for a British Blue x from JA&CA Gibson, Selside with diary heifers selling to 219.5p/kg and £1303 for an MRI from IM Clegg, Staveley.

Breeding Cattle
Breeding bulls sold to a top price of £3700 for a Charolais from JE Gaunt, Huddersfield with a mature Aberdeen Angus from J Stott, Crosscrake achieving £2350. A Hereford sold at £1800 from G&MC Shepherd, Woodplumpton.
A full auction with a great buzz ensured all breeding cattle was sold to its full potential.
The breeding section commenced with bulls which sold to a top price of £3700 for a Charolais from JE Gaunt, Huddersfield with a mature Aberdeen Angus from J Stott, Crosscrake achieving £2350. A Hereford sold at £1800 from G&MC Shepherd, Woodplumpton.

A much-admired run of home bred cattle from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston saw their best sell to £3500. A 3rd calved Simmental cow with a Saler calf from JE&DJ Hutchinson, Cautley sold to £3500. EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg annual consignment of home bred heifers and calves saw their best sell to £2600. There was a keen interest show for all cows with calves at foot with many regularly selling at £2000 plus. A Blonde 4th calver with a Limousin heifer calf from B&R Baines, Carnforth sold to £2450. Twentyfive heifer and calves average £2235 with forty cows and calves averaging £1900. The next sale of cows with calves at foot is on the 20th July.

Calf numbers continue to rise at Lancaster Auction with both new buyers and sellers once again in attendance.
Bull calves sold to £570 for a nine week old British Blue x from AD&R Milner, Claughton on Brock. Closely followed by another at £555 from R Fare, Kirkham and £500 from Lawson Farm Ltd, Cockerham. Younger bull calves for rearing sold to £460 for a British Blue x from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe with others at £455 from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham and several others were over £400 with most £350-£380. Month old Charolais x bulls from WG Farms, Cockerham sold to £390 on several occasions, with this home also selling an 18 day old British Blue x at £335.
Native sired calves sold to £365 for an eight week old Hereford x from MJ&H Atkinson, Quernmore with Beef Shorthorns selling to £325 from JE&S Seedell, Mellor and Aberdeen Angus x £320 from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham. A sharp rise in the trade for dairy bulls, seeing month old Holstien Friesians selling to £100 from Wallbank Farms Ltd, Over Wyresdale with other two to three week old calves generally £60-£80.
Weaned calves sold to £800 for an eight month old British Blue x bull from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham who sold five month old Charolais x at £650 and Aberdeen Angus x £620. Reared Holstien Friesian bulls from PA&D Slater, Barnacre sold at £310.
Heifer calves sold to £360 for a six week old British Blue x from J Bargh & Son, Heaton who sold others at £325 and £320. Month old Limousin x selling to £300 from TL Baldwin & Son, Forton and British Blue x to £270 from Walmsley Beef, Cockerham. Native sired heifers sold to £435 for an Aberdeen Angus x from W&G Cornthwaite & Son, Claughton on Brock with younger heifers selling to £300 for an Aberdeen Angus x from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham and £255 form Wallbank Farms Ltd, Over Wyresdale.

Another fast and competitive store trade from start to finish with all steers sold averaging £1336 and all heifers average £1233. Steers sold to a top price of £1760 for a Charolais x from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton who sold others at £1700. A trio of Limousin x steers from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe sold at £1670 with a ring full of British Blue x from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet achieving £1600. Other strong Continental steers were regularly £1400-£1550. Native sired steers sold to £1750 for an Aberdeen Angus x from G Sagar & Son, Caton with others at £1530 from J&JM Walmsley, Pilling who also sold Hereford x at 1480. Dairy bred steers sold to £1360 for Holstein Friesians from GE&AP Hewitt, Cockerham with others at £1340 from AG Stafford, Out Rawcliffe.
Heifers sold to £1570 for a pair of British Blue x from J&M Cockett, Ingleton with others at £1500 from SJ&A Hargreaves, Morecambe and Charolais x achieving £1450 from EE Thornton & Son, Heaton. Just a single feeding bull today, being a 12 month old Aberdeen Angus from G Metcalfe & Son, Gressingham achieving £1120.

NWA Lancaster once again proved to be the leading cull cow market in the county, with an overall market average of 194p/kg achieved, for an entry of predominantly dairy bred cows.
Dairy cows sold to a top price 249.5p/kg for a Friesian from B&A Blacoe, Lytham. Holstein Friesian to 209.5p/kg from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham with others also achieving this price from WG Farms, Cockerham and CG Birkett, Carnforth. Other dairy cows were regularly 185-200p/kg. Top grossing dairy cow today was a Holstein Friesian from RT Halhead, Cockerham achieving £1635 with five cows over £1500 and a further twenty two over £1300. All cull cows today averaged £1192.
A very small number of beef cows forward today which sold to a top of 259.5p/kg on two occasions for Limousin and Blonde cows from JW&M Taylor & Son, Dent. Herefords sold to 249.5p/kg from D&E Whittaker, Quernmore and Simmentals to 229.5p/kg from Barlow Bros, Croston. Top grossing beef cow was a Simmental achieving £1911 from Barlow Bros, Croston with a heavy weight Aberdeen Angus x from S Willman, Kirkby Lonsdale achieving £1784.
OTM heifers sold to 269.5p/kg and £1522 for a British Blue x from KH Knowles, Inskip with others beef heifers at 239.5p/kg and £1497 from R&E Ladds, Kendal. Dairy heifers sold to 239.5p/kg and £1590 for a Holstein Friesian
from Messrs Gibson & Berry, Endmoor with others at 239.5p/kg and £1565 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe.
OTM Steers sold to 249.5p/kg for a British Blue x and £1872 for a Holstein Friesian both from KH Knowles, Inskip.
Cull stock bulls sold to 197.5p/kg from a Holstein Friesian and £1525 for a Hereford. 100 plus cows are required every week to satisfy strong buyer’s demand.
