J36 Rural Auction Centre: July Online Machinery Sale

A popular collective sale of Machinery at NWA J36 saw over 1500 lots for sale, with items selling throughout the UK and into Europe and Ireland.

The sale topped at £16500 for a Valtra T30 selling back to the trade, with other tractors including a Case 895 in original condition achieving £6200, with an International 885 selling at £1750, International 785 £1700, with a David Brown 996 going for restoration at £800.

Plant Machinery sold to £16000 for a Komatsu Tracked Digger with £4100 paid for a Volvo EC15 tracked Digger, with a Bomag Roller at £2300 and Massey Ferguson

Industrial Loader at £1800. A wide selection of vehicles saw a Land Rover Defender (09 reg) sell at £11700, with another Land Rover 90 (15 reg) sell at £10500 both direct local ex farms. Other vehicles included a Polaris Ranger at £4200, Ford Ranger (57 reg) £2500, Isuzu Trooper £2400, Citroen Van £1900 and Suzuki Jimney (51 reg) £940.

Fantastic selection of Farm Machinery and equipment saw seasonal and well maintained items continuing to sell to a premium with prices often exceeding vendors expectation. A Major 2300 Tanker (part farm dispersal) achieved £9000, with a Claas 255 uniwrap selling at £6400, Slurry realer £3100, Claas Tedder £3800, John Deere Trailed Mower £2100, Pan Mixer £2000 and a Krone Rake £1950. 74 trailers were sold with Ifor Williams tri axle livestock trailer achieving £3500, 12ft Ifor Williams cattle trailer £2700, Ifor Williams car transport trailer £2400, Ifor Williams plant trailer £2400 and a Hudson livestock trailer £1500. Other items of interest including a Monsoon sheep shower achieving £4800 with another at £3600, mobile welfare unit £2600, Ritchie Highland cattle crush £2300, International conventional baler £1850, two birth caravan £1250, lime spreader £880, Mountfield ride on lawn mower £800.

Prime Lambs

An increased entry of 822 lambs were put before our ring side of nine active buyers, all breeds of heavy lambs are in the keenest demand today. The sale peaked at £156 for Texel lambs from JM Sanderson, Halton with Beltex lambs selling to £148 from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. 43kg smart Texel lambs sold to £147 from P&V Bennet, Lancaster. Many pens of meated heavy lambs regularly sold at £140 plus. The best bred lambs were regularly selling well above the 300p/kg mark with a top price of 332p/kg twice for Texels from P&V Bennett, Lancaster and Beltexs from CD&HL Mason, Caton. Commercial and lighter lambs would be slightly easier on the week, with first cross lambs regularly selling at 270p/kg to 275p/kg. More light lambs were on offer today, with these lambs needing to be full of meat to achieve maximum price. A pen of 35 Texel lambs from D Gardner, Brookhouse sold to £98.

Cast Sheep

110 ewes were forward with heavy ewes a very similar trade on the week, leaner and lighter ewes were a considerably better trade. Beltex ewes sold to a top of £151 from JS Horner, Ingleton with Texel ewes selling to £146 from PF Lee, Over Wyresdale. Mule ewes sold to a top of £128 from H Birkett & Son, Heaton. Heavy Mule ewes were regularly away at £115 to £120. Hill bred ewes saw Cheviots sell to a top of £120 from KA Purtill, Wigan with the best end Swaledales selling to £80 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale.

J36 Rural Auction Centre: Sale of Pigs. Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep, Tuesday 11th July 2023.

Pigs

Strong competition was experienced for all pigs at NWA J36 with prime pigs selling to a top price of £232 for Pietrain x from C Woodhouse, Nateby. This was closely followed by others at £222 from W Stamper, Chipping and hoggs at £212 from J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake. Other well finished pigs were regularly £170 to £200, to include Saddleback x gilts from H Kent, Cockerham achieving £182.

Lighter weight pigs sold to £160 for Pietrain x hoggs from W Stamper, Chipping with Duroc x gilts at £102 from DC Morley, Chapelton.

Top pence per kilo of 212p/kg was achieved by John Stott Jnr, Crosscrake with others regularly 175p/kg to 205p/kg.

Cull sows sold to £115 and 46p/kg for Saddlebacks from DC Morley, Chapelton. 50 prime pigs are required every sale to satisfy buyer demand, vendors are encouraged to enter pigs to assist with advertising.

Prime Lambs

A pleasing entry of 1130 prime lambs were forward, as seen nationally trade was a little less than previous weeks. Once again Junction 36 saw heavy meated lambs sell to a big premium. The sale topped at £160 for a Texel from TE&A Galbraith, Crooklands. Suffolks sold to £155 from G Riley, Bolton le Sands. Closely followed by a full pen of Texels selling to £154 from WT Whittaker & Son, Nether Kellet. Many pens of 50kg plus lambs sold at over £150. There is always a keen interest in butcher type lambs at Junction 36 with Beltexs selling to £151 from WS Burrow, Silverdale. A pair of Dutch Spotted lambs sold to £147 from R&E Ladds, Kendal. Once again creep fed lambs and those full of meat were achieving good returns, with leaner sorts harder to place on the day and buyers showing caution towards under finished lambs.

Another big show of light lambs was forward with these lambs needing to be full of meat. 36kg Beltex lambs sold

to £109 from AE Atkinson & Son, Endmoor. A full ring of first cross Texel lambs at 35kg sold to £102.50 from Hornby Hall Farms, Penrith.

Cast Sheep

Vendors responded to the call for ewes with 399 forward today, with them selling to a fast and competitive trade as buyers are keen to fulfil orders. The sale peaked at £170 for a Beltex ewe from M Allen, Carnforth closely followed by another at £167 from AM Blackwell, Preston Patrick. Heavy first cross ewes sold to £142 for a Suffolk cross from R&J Dodgson, Natland with Texel cross achieving £138 from D Black, Milnthorpe. Others were regularly £128 to £135. Medium continental cross ewes were keenly competed for and generally selling at £90 to £116. Mules sold to £119 for a pen of ten from S&A Bland, Tebay with others at £118 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe and Cheviot Mules at £116 from P&MR Carruthers, Penrith. Medium Mules nicely sold at £90 to £105. Hill ewes sold to £108 for Cheviot from K Purtill, Wigan, Rough Fells to £94 from S&A Bland, Tebay, Swaledales to £90 from GA Guy, Tebay and Herdwicks £90 from Messrs Edmondson, Ambleside. A large proportion of recently weaned hill ewes, generally sold at £60 to £80 depending on quality and type.

Store Lambs

The opening sale of store lambs at North West Auctions Junction 36 saw a catalogue entry of 1500, with a vast amount of these being medium term lambs forward, achieving a respectable average of £79 per head. A busy ring side of buyers was forward, saw good local support from farmer buyers, as well as a number of travelled buyers ringside. Short term lambs were a roaring trade with a pen of five Beltex lambs from JT&A Armistead, Selside selling to £119, with this home also selling Texels to £111.50. B Wilson & Sons, Selside sold their best Texel x Mules to £105.50. Closely followed by a full pen of Texels from RI Dixon, Low Newton to £103. Many of the best pens of the best lambs regularly sold at £100 plus. Medium continental bred lambs were keenly bid for, with many of these lambs regularly selling into the mid-eighties. A pen of 33 Texels full of meat from JE Wightman, Lupton sold to £94.50. Long term lambs looked a flying trade on the day, with these regularly selling at the early seventies. Only a few pens of Mule wethers were forward with the best selling to £75 from B Wilson & Sons, Selside and others at £73 from KD&L Armer, Kirkby Stephen.

NWA Lancaster held its popular weekly sale with 339 cattle all sold in two hours and 45 minutes. A rising trade across all sections saw:

- Stores sell to £1740

- Calves to £600

- Dairy to £2020

- OTM Cattle £1709 and 254p/kg

All vendors leaving well suited with prices achieved, with many reporting trade head of sales earlier and mid week.

Dairy Cattle

Customers taking advantage of being able to buy and sell stock on the same day, with more cattle required to satisfy buyers demand. Dairy cows sold to £2020 for a second calved cow from R&K Jenkinson, Pilling who sold fourth calvers at £1720 and £1520.

Calves & Weanlings

67 rearing calves sold to £350 for 6 week old British Blue x bulls from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe who sold other at £340. Month old Charolais x bull calves sold to £300 from JE&S Seedall, Blackburn with 3 week old British Blue x selling to £280 from WG Farms, Cockerham. Native sired rearing calves sold to £335 for a six week old Hereford x from MJ&H Atkinson, Quernmore with month old Aberdeen Angus x selling to £250 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe. Dairy bulls sold to £150 for an 8 week sold a Holstein Friesian from AK&BM Robinson & Son, Arkholme with others generally £100 to £130. Weaned bull calves sold to £600 for British Blue x from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Helsington who sold others at £585 and £565. Weaned Hereford bulls from TE&ME Kidd, Ellel sold at £500 and £480 with Aberdeen Angus x selling to £470 from JM&MH France & Son, Littledale. Weaned dairy bulls sold to £340 for Fleckvieh from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Helsington with Holstein Friesian’s selling to £265 from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham.

Rearing heifer calves sold to £350 for Charolais x from EE Thornton & Son, Heaton who sold others at £340. Younger Continental heifer were calves generally 240p/kg to 300p/kg, depending on breed and quality. Native sired heifer calves sold to £260 for a six week old Hereford x from TE&M Kidd, Ellel with month old Aberdeen Angus x to £225 from EE Thornton & Son, Heaton. Weaned heifer calves sold to £500 for a Hereford x from AK&BM Robinson & Son, Arkholme with others at £485 from JM&HM France & Son, Littledale from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham.

Store Cattle

NWA Lancaster saw an increased entry of stores forward at its popular weekly sale, with all classes and types selling to an increased trade. Steers sold to £1740 for Aberdeen Angus x from RG&B Lewis, Ingleton who also sold other at £1720. Closely followed by Herefords at £1700 from J Oddie & Son, Balderstone. Other strong well grown steers regularly £1550 to £1600, to include British Blue x steers at £1590 from JT&GV Dobson, Clitheroe. Dairy bred steers sold to £1520 from A&E Clarkson Ltd, Thurnham. British Friesian sold to £1310 from EE Thornton & Son, Heaton. Younger steers attracted a keen interest, selling to £1080 for 14 month old Salers from M&M Carr, Carnforth. Heifers sold to £1600 for Limousin x heifers from WS Burrow Ltd, Silverdale. Aberdeen

OTM Cattle

97 cull cows were forward today, selling to an overall market average of 181.8p/kg and £1181 with buyers keen to fulfil orders.

Beef cows sold to 219p/kg for a Hereford x from AE&PC Capstick, Heversham with others at 214.5p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus x from GR&A Foy, Conder Green and British Blue x to 207.5p/kg from SJ&NS Wood, Windermere. Other beef cows were generally 190-205p/kg, going for finishing. Top grossing beef cow was an Aberdeen Angus x from GR&A Foy, Conder Green, closely followed by a Limousin x from AG Riley Ltd, Nether Kellet achieving £1618. The market top price of 219.5p/kg was also achieved for a Fleckvieh from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Helsington with Montbeliarde selling to 217.5p/kg from EW&R Towers, Hornby and Holstein Friesian 214.5p/kg again from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Helsington. Other heavy well fleshed dairy cows were 185p/kg to 200p/kg, with mediums 170p/kg to 185p/kg and those direct out of the parlour 140p/kg to 165p/kg depending on quality and type. JS&KM Wilson & Son, Helsington also topped at the top grossing table with a Holstein Friesian £1675 and a Fleckvieh at £1646.

from O Butler, Kirkham. Dairy heifers sold to 214.5p/kg from AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel. Top grossing OTM, heifer was a British Blue x from J&G Thornley Ltd, Kirkham achieving £1788. A Hereford achieved £1687 from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham. Dairy heifers sold to £1165 from CR&A Baxter & Son, Morecambe. OTM steers sold to 254.5p/kg for a Limousin x from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham who also sold Hereford at £1709.

Cull bulls sold to 179.5p/kg and £1421 for a Limousin from B Butterfield & Son, Burton in Kendal.
