MARCH MACHINERY SALE ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL BUYERS
The popular monthly collective sale continues to attract both national and international interest with strong prices achieved for all types of machinery and equipment.
Undoubtedly the entry of over 1300 lots drew buyers from far and wide with something for everyone.
An impressive line up of over 50 tractors and vehicles were sold with a trio of John Deere tractors direct from local farms all selling to keen interest. A John Deere 6630 sold at £26,700, John Deere 6530 selling to £18400 and John Deere 6620E selling to £12,700. Other tractors included a Deutz c/w loader going to Ireland at £19,000.
Vintage tractors sold to £5100 for a Marshall 602, International 475 c/w loader at £2400 and a DD1200 at £1750.
Vehicles sold to £9900 for a Land Rover Defender direct from a local farm, a £5500 Kubota RTV, Volkswagen Crafter Tipper at £3800, Range Rover at £3800. Several Diggers were offered for sale selling to £3900 for 3T digger and £3200 for an Attack mini digger.
Well maintained equipment sold to a premium with a Jumbo Rotospreader at £4100, Vicon rake at £3900, Lely Mower at £3000, Watson Roller at £2900, Tarrup Mower at £2200, Kuhn Straw Chopper at £2000.
Trailers sold to £4900 for a Low Loader Trailer, £4200 12T Silage Trailer, £3200 12FT Ifor Williams Livestock, £3100 Graham Edwards Tipping Plant Trailer, £2600 Marshall 4T Tipping Trailer, £2500 for a 10T Dump Trailer.
Livestock equipment sold to £2300 for a Bateman Sheep Handling System, £1650 Swaledale ATV Trailer, Sheep Footbath race at £560, Lamb Adopters at £340, Cattle Feed Trailer at £340, Creep Feeders at £300, Hayracks at £280. Other items of interest included a Kubota Ride on Mower at £2300, £1800 for a Hyraulic Post Knocker, Ifor Williams Horse Trailer at £1400, KRM Drill at £1150, Crate of Blue Slate at £640 and Cast Iron Troughts at £520. The Big Item April Machinery sale will be accepting entries on Tuesday 11th April and Wednesday 12th April.

Prime Hoggs
The weekly sale of prime hoggs saw an entry of 630 forward, with a much improved average of 242p/kg. Hoggs weighing between 40kg and 45kg averaged an impressive 252p/kg. The sale saw Beltex lambs sell to a top of £137 from AG Butler, Hambleton with Charollais also achieving the same price from V&EJ Chadwick & Sons, Sowerby. Many of the heavy Continental bred hoggs were regularly selling into the £130 mark. Butcher lambs were keenly bid for with new buyers round the ring looking for these types, topping at 350p/kg from AG Butler who sold others to 335p/kg. A run of Beltex hoggs from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore sold to 300p/kg. Buyers were showed more interest in up land bred hoggs with Cheviots selling to £120 from Calderside Farms. Mule hoggs sold to £118 at 49kg from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale with others to £117 from V&EJ Chadwick & Sons. Mule hoggs frequently sold around the 235p/kg mark. A lovely run of fed hoggs from G&MA Jackson, Little Eccleston saw the best pens of 46kg Swaledale hoggs sell to £112, with this home selling a full pen of 44kg Cheviots to £111. Sheep with Lambs at Foot
A smaller show of sheep and lambs were forward with trade remaining as strong as last week and all forward averaging £80 a life. The sale topped at £250 per unit for aged Mule ewes with Texel twin lambs from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe who sold other outfits to £240. An increased entry of 170 ewes were forward, averaging £100 per head. The sale topped at £168 for Texel rams from WN&D Smith & Sons, Cockerham who sold other Texel rams at £152. Texel ewes saw a top of £140 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with other Texels selling to £138 from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham. Leicester ewes sold to a top of £130 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Mule ewes would be the sharpest trade of the day, topping at £133 from WN&D Smith & Sons, Cockerham with the best Mule ewes regularly selling in the £120’s. Hill ewes topped twice at £112 for Cheviots from DR Preston, Caton and D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe.

Pigs
Another fast trade for Prime Pigs with a trio of Large White x Gilts leading the sale achieving £232 from JM Navesey with others from the same home selling at £210 and £208. Other well finished pigs regularly £135-£170 depending on breed with caution towards boars. Lighter weight pigs sold to £132 from A Smith. Top of 215p/kg this week with an overall market average of 146p/kg. Weaners sold to £140 from AP Keiley with other at £35, £31 from S Whitley.
Sheep With Lambs At Foot
The opening sale of Sheep with Lambs at J36 created plenty of interest from local and travelled buyers. A lovely run of Texel ewes with Texel twin lambs from JR Waller, Killington selling to £285 with other pens from the same home selling to £270. This good home also sold aged Mule ewes with Texel twins to £248. T Ellis, New Hutton sold 4 crop Mule Ewes with single Texel Lambs to a top of £170. Hoggs sell to £139 and 293p/kg. Overall Market Average of 239.82p/kg.More appetite in the hogg trade with well finished and well-bred hoggs proving to be the most attractive to buyers. A super run of well finished hoggs from M&YS Barker, Halton lead the sale at £139 for Texel x purchased by Plumgarths Farm Shop with others from the same home selling at £135 to Browns Quality Meats Shop.Heavy weight hoggs perhaps seeing same resistance, regularly selling at £118-£128, standards having a nice rise at £105-£115.Light weights Continentals sold to £100 with others from £92£99.Over half the entry being hill bred hoggs with heavies selling to £126 for Cheviots, £113 Mules, £109 Herdwicks and £108 Scotch Blackface. A pen of 6 dairy bred Aberdeen Angus heifers at 5-6 month old from M&S Blease, Carnforth sold to £665. Other beef bull calves still on milk were generally £240-£300, depending on quality and type. Another fast trade for all classes of store cattle with Lancaster Auction Mart once again proving to be the premier Lancashire market for selling store cattle. Perhaps a slightly younger show of cattle but still achieving the high prices of recent sales. Steers sold to £1760 for an Aberdeen Angus x from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet who also sold a ring full of Charolais’s at £1610. Other stronger steers sold to £1690 for Aberdeen Angus’s from J Tattersall, Leyland with Stabilizers at £1640 from KG&LM Park, Witherslack and Limousin x to £1640 from A&MI Robinson, Penrith. Other steers regularly sold at £1480 to £1600. Dairy bred steers sold to £1400 for Flekviehs from MJ&LC Lund, Quernmore with Holstein Friesian selling to £1340 from MJ Shepherd, Kirkby Lonsdale and Montbeliardes to £1080 from J Maxwell, Halton. All steers forward today averaged £1343. There was keen competition for all classes of heifers with Limousin x selling to £1700 and £1680 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. All heifers today averaged £1285. A large ring side of buyers were present today competing for all classes and types of cattle, with a keen interest shown in younger cattle ahead of turn out. Vendors are encouraged to enter cattle with confidence and take advantage of the current demand. A brighter day saw another hot trade at NWA Lancaster, for all classes and types of cattle at this popular weekly sale. The day commenced with cull cows which saw 108 forward selling to market average of 194.3p/kg. Cull cows sold to 274.5p/kg for a Limousin x from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe with other beef cows selling to 269.5p/kg from JC Prickett, Bentham, 249.5p/kg from G&P Middleton, Sedbergh, 241.5p/kg from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale and 229.5p/kg from EW&A Bradshaw, Stalmine. Beef bred cows regularly sold between 195p/kg and 225p/kg, with the keen interest in those suitable for finishing. Heavy weight and well fleshed dairy cows were in demand, selling to 227.5p/kg for a young Friesian cow from EW&CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine. Others sold to 221.5p/kg from Lawsons Dairy Ltd, Cockerham and K SD & JA Ward, Arkholme. Well fleshed dairy cow was regularly 195p/kg to 200 p/kg, with cows direct out of the parlour 170p/kg to 190p/kg and the leanest sorts generally 135p/kg to 150p/kg. Top grossing cow today was a Limousin from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale achieving £1924 with £1866 being the top of the dairy cow for a Holstein Friesian from Lawsons Dairy Ltd, Cockerham.
OTM heifers sold to 231.5p/kg for a Holstein Friesian from RW Bainbridge & Son, Whittington with other OTM heifers 229p/kg and 219p/kg. Top grossing OTM heifer was a Holstein Friesian from H Halhead & Son, Nether Kellet at £1371. Prime heifers sold to 300p/kg and £1623 for a Limousin x from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. Overaged steers sold to 274p/kg on two occasions for Aberdeen Angus and Salers from O Butler, Kirkham with others from the same home at 271p/kg and 264p/kg. Top grossing being an Aberdeen Angus x at £1952. Stock bulls sold to 197p/kg for both Aberdeen Angus’s and Holstein Friesians, with the top grossing being £1828 for an Aberdeen Angus from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham.
