NWA Lancaster Sale Reports Friday 1st August Store Cattle sold to a strong trade throughout with all classes of cattle in slightly stronger demand as numbers begin to lift with 274 sold. The larger better sorts of steers more sought after as Charolais steers from J & BA Kellet of Clarksons Farm sold to £1390 with other good Charolais steers from the same home selling to £1320 and £1290 with other good Simmental steers from TE & A Galbraith of Crooklands Farm selling to £1280 for a trio. Farm assured cattle sold to a premium today with many buyers requesting that cattle is farm assured and we are strongly advising vendors to get farm assured to maximize the price achieved for their cattle. Congratulations to Stuart Close of Docker Hall Farm for winning the prize draw of a £15 lunch voucher for lotting four or more cattle together. The Cull Cow and OTM trade continues to hold strong even though we are currently in the school summer holidays. A good entry of 61 cattle forward averaged 113ppk with dairy bred cows averaging 104ppk. Cast cows topped at 149.5ppk for Limousin cows from JG & PH Thompson of Poppy Farm. Solid trade in the ring means that there is a value to having your TB1 area cattle pre-movement tested and sold through the ring rather than direct. The largest entry of Calves forward at Lancaster seen for a while with 75 calves and stirks passing through the ring with a majority being made up of black and whites. Calves sold to a top price of £262 for a three week old Limousin Bull calf from J Bargh & Son of North Farm with Angus Bull calves from David and Eileen Wallbank of Tills Farm selling an Angus Bull calf to £260. A large proportion of calves forward today being black and white bull calves, the trade for black and whites slightly tougher with the current beef prices saw black and white calves from the Wallbanks of Tills Farm selling to £102. A handful of stirks forward sold to plenty of interest around the ring.
