NWA LANCASTER - Friday 4th July - Weekly Sale Store Cattle An increased entry of 179 store cattle forward this morning. Trade was similar to the previous week with the quality on animals on show not quite the same. Trade was topped by DM Bargh, Morecambe with a 27month British Blue Steer selling to £1190, with Limousin and BrB Steers from the same home selling to £1180. Charollais sold to £1170 from Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton for 27-28month steers. Heifers sold to £1140 for a 23month Angus from TD Inman, Crooklands. Stronger Black and Whites sold to a top of £780. Once again buyers were actively seeking Farm Assured cattle. Congratulations to Cowell & Moore who won the £15 lunch voucher for batching four or more cattle together. Cast Cows A fraction more in terms of numbers with 62 forward this morning. Trade was topped by JE Bracken, St Michaels, selling a Lim Heifer to 164.5ppk or £1458 for a cast bull from EJ Ward & Son, Nether Kellet. Beef cows sold to a top of 149.5ppk again from JE Bracken and T Ayrton & Sons, Abbeystead, both with Limousins. Black and White cows sold to a top of 144.5ppk from D Fox & Co. Bay Horse. Black and White heifers sold to a top of 139.5ppk from ID Inman. Overall cast cows averaged 114ppk with black and whites averaging 110ppk. Calves A reduced entry on the week with best sorts short of buyers requirements. Black and White calves sodlt o a top of £150 for a 1m11day from Wallbank Farms. A run of young calves from J Hoggarth & Son, Slyne sold to £195 for a 23day blue bull and £188 for a blue heifer. Nice Angus calves forward sold to £258 from Wallbank Farms and £205 from J Pye, Hatters Farm. Once again farmer buyers were ringside looking for calves and stirks.

NWA LANCASTER - Monday 7th July - Prime Stock Lamb Trade follows national trend and declines at Lancaster Prime Lamb Strong numbers of prime lambs continue to come forward at 1679 Prime Lambs to £90 & 220.0p/kg Lancaster with an entry of 1679. The overall average at Lancaster continued with national Weights Top Av. Standard 32 ½ -39 211.0 188.2 trends averaging 185ppk. Best sorts of Texel lambs still sold between 200ppk and 220.0 184.2 220ppk averaging 187ppk with best Suffolk’s to 195ppk with plenty of pens selling in the Medium 39 ½ -45 ½ Heavy 46 - 51 ½ 179.0 174.0 late 180’s. Only a handful of mules forward selling around the 170ppk mark. The trade topped at 220ppk for a pen of Texel lambs from GR & A Foy of Parkside selling to the top price of the day of £90. Heavy weight 48kg lambs from A & FM Bolland of Yeat House sold to £85. Cast Sheep Cast sheep continue to sell well with best sorts of continental ewes selling over £120 with plenty of ewes around the hundred pound mark with continental ewes averaging £93. The trade topped at £126 for Texel x from EJ Ward & Sons of Intack Farm. Mule ewes sold to £84 from EJ Ward & Sons of Intack with plenty of mule ewes in the late seventies averaging £70 for all forward. Only a small show of horned ewes selling to £67 from Ken Kelsall of Brown Brook. Prime Bulls An entry of eleven bulls sold to a continued similar trade at Lancaster. Beef bred dairy bulls sold between 180ppk and 190ppk topping at 192.5ppk from S & B M Lawrenson & Son of Northwood Farm with a Limousin bull. Holstein bulls sold to a top price of 179.5ppk from John Wilson of High House with others dairy types selling between 120ppk and 150ppk depending on quality.

NWA J36 Crooklands - Tuesday 8th July 1823 Prime Lambs to £86 & 200.0p/kg North West Auctions held their weekly sale of prime sheep at J36 on Tuesday where, Top Av. once again, a large show of 2263 sheep comprising of 1823 prime lambs and 440 cast Weights Standard 32 ½ -39 200.0 176.0 sheep were sold to a full ringside of buyers. As other markets have reported, trade was easier today with lambs harder to place but we still managed to stay well in line with overall averages at other centres, and well ahead of some, to average 174.31p/kg. All classes and weights of lambs sold to a competitive trade with lambs topping at £86 per head for a pair of Beltex x lambs from David Prickett of Farleton. Another good show of cast sheep were forward with strong ewes once again remaining a sharp trade and being short of buyers requirements, whilst a lot more fleshly weaned Horned ewes on offer today were slightly easier on the week, but still looked a good trade. A smaller show of 79 pigs forward for the monthly sale, with trade for finished pigs being much firmer, attaining a top price of £145 from AJ & ME Saggers, Holme Head, £130 AJJ Horn, Lower Griseburn, £128 Messrs Strong & Preston. White weaners maintained the good prices, selling to £50 AJ & ME Saggers, and £48, S Corbishley. Store pigs to £105 David Miller Farming. Sows selling to a top of £85.
