High-Quality Short Fiction from

Dyslexia Friendly!

Stoke B o oks

Stoke Books titles are designed to develop young people’s perception of themselves as readers and grow their enjoyment of fiction, even where a lack of experience or processing difficulties may act as a barrier to accessing the written word. We believe that the key to opening up a love of reading is the chance to experience great writing and we are committed to pairing the least confident readers with the best authors in the world.

Expert Editing

Unique Design • Off-white paper helps to reduce visual stress • No right-hand justification to help prevent readers losing their place in the text • Good quality paper reduces distracting showthrough from backing pages • Dyslexia-friendly typeface gives each character a clear and distinct shape • Carefully calculated leading and kerning help readers to see the shape of individual letters and words

• Short length allows struggling readers to feel a sense of achievement at having finished a book • Plenty of chapter breaks offer natural ‘breathing space’ • Cliff-hangers and lots of action motivate strugglers to read on • We edit the language to be challenging, yet familiar so it is accessible for at-risk readers

YALSA Quick Picks Award Shortlisted Title

“These texts do not assume slow readers lack sensitivity, intelligence or knowledge of the world. These are risky, edgy, provocative stories and the better for that.” – The Times

“Stoke Books is bound to be a staple in many school and public libraries. Billed as ‘first class short teen fiction, accessible to all,’ each title is written at a fourth-grade reading level, but aimed soundly at a young adult audience. Few will miss a more complicated vocabulary or extra detail when the stories are this engaging.” - Voice of Youth Advocates

“You have helped open a door which we thought was firmly bolted shut for years to come.” - Parent
