How do FSS facilities and programming impact the quality of life for our Airmen and their families? FSS’s facilities and programming often serve as a source of connection for our Airmen and families as well as a source of recreation and stress relief. The services offered are ways for Airmen from all career fields to connect and network through the club, bowling centers, and outdoor recreation offerings. They provide supervision and leadership opportunities to connect with Airmen and families as well as through events such as First Friday and Family Night Activities.

How would you encourage Airmen to utilize these services? Airmen and their leadership need to take advantage of the opportunities offered through these services to strengthen our core relationships with one another. The more connected we are with each other and the mission, our families get stronger, our productivity increases, we perform better, and our Airmen are more lethal.

What is your favorite part of your new job? Learning this amazing mission and working alongside the Airmen that make it happen. Patricia and I are so excited to immerse ourselves into the base, community and mission.

What is the weirdest desert critter you’ve encountered so far? I think I saw a roadrunner..... WWW.DMFSS.COM • LIKE US ON FB @355FSS | 5

Life on an Air Force base is quite unique. Military members, contractors, civilians, retirees and their families hail from all over the world. And yet, what connects us is a common experience. It’s only fitting that we should have a central space in which to meet, create, relax and learn.

Staying hydrated

signs of dehdryation

TIPS FOR THE DESERT HEAT

• Extreme thirst • Less frequent urination • Dark-colored urine • Fatigue • Dizziness • Confusion If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, drink more fluids! Severe dehyrdation requires medical attention.

Drink before, during AND after exercise. By the time you feel thirsty, you are already behind in fluid replacement. Avoid energy drinks, as the high caffeine levels add to the strain already placed on your body by extreme heat. For prolonged sweating lasting several hours, sports drinks with balanced electrolytes can help replace salt lost in sweat.
