R-9 Hires Superintendent The Trenton R-IX Board of Education has selected Mr. Daniel Gott as the new Trenton R-IX Superintendent. Mr. Gott will begin his duties as superintendent on July 1, 2022. Mr. Gott most recently has served as the Trenton Middle School principal for six years. His previous positions include serving as high school and middle school social studies teacher. “I am dedicated to the education profession and this community.” Mr. Gott said, “I work hard to build relationships with students, staff, colleagues, and parents. Throughout my time with the Trenton RIX School District, I have been able to not only witness the qualities of a good administrator, but I have been able to put those qualities into practice as well by leading by example, creating a positive yet structured environment for staff and students, and inspiring students to become productive citizens and life-long learners while supporting the educators instructing them.” Gott received a Bachelor of Science in History from Missouri Western State University as well as a Masters of Education in Administration and a Specialist in Education from William Woods University. Mr. Gott and his family reside in Trenton. He and his wife Abby, a Title reading teacher at Rissler Elementary School, have

Park Board Approves Sign Bids The Trenton Park Board met on Wednesday, June 1 at City Hall with 5 board members, Park Director David Shockley and City Council Liaison Lance Otto present. President Curtis Crawford called the meeting to order and minutes were reviewed and approved. There was discussion and approval of the only 2 bids received for replacing signage at the Rock Barn and Van Meter Park. Greg Sharp, who has installed other signs for the city, submitted a bid of $5,254 for the Rock Barn and $3,230 for Van Meter Park; this includes material and labor. The board had budgeted $10,500 to replace both signs, so the bids came in under budget and the Rock Barn sign will have rock similar to the building itself along with a planter. President Curtis Crawford gave kudos to everyone who helped share the word about needing lifeguards for the pool. Deann Roland, who moved to Trenton about a year ago from Nebraska has been hired as the new Pool Manager, she is currently working on getting certified so that she may train and certify lifeguards next year here in Trenton. There are 20 lifeguards who should

all be certified by opening day which is Saturday June 4th at 1pm. Three returning lifeguards Ali Westcott, Shay Westerhof and Ava Simpson will be the Assistant Managers this year. A couple of changes being made this year are that pool passes will be cards and daily pool passes will be a different colored wristband each day. Park Director David Shockley reported that the pool pumps are all working, a coupler that was leaking on the water slide has been replaced and the inside of the pool has been power washed to be ready to fill. Green Hills Recreation has games scheduled every day throughout the month of June and soccer starts on Saturday June 4th. The park department is busy painting lines and preparing the fields for games. Mowing is being done at the parks between the rain days. The park department received 2 trees from Barnes Greenhouse that have been planted at Moberly Park. Work on the downtown park at 5 points includes cutting down a tree that is dying and getting the cameras installed to help with deterring vandalism. Mr. Crawford encourages people to please report
any mischievous activity at the parks. There has been some graffiti vandalism in the restroom at Burleigh Grimes Field. The park department is working on cleaning that up along with preparing the field for June 15th when we will be hosting a Chillicothe Mudcats game. A reward fund has been established for individuals reporting vandalism in the parks which results in an arrest or conviction. Anyone who wishes to donate to the fund can contact Green Hills Rural Development. Mr. Shockley and Mr. Crawford reported that the Recreational Trail Grant that the department applied for with DNR back in February is being reviewed and winners will be announced in September. If the department is awarded the grant, work on the walking trail may begin later this year, which will include removing the parking spots near the baseball field by the trail. In a closed session for personell matters, the board unanimously approved a 5% salary increase for park superintendent David Shockley and assistant superintendent Hunter Trask.
