playing and she could really step up into that sixth spot,� Gott said. “Magie Steinhoff is a senior and she is a candidate for that spot, too. Both of those girls played in our top spots on the JV lineup last year. Siara Bailey and Alvynne Villacampa have been looking really good as well.� The Lady Bulldogs should be a well-balanced team in 2012 that will be competitive in both singles and doubles matches. “I really think we have a good combination of both singles and doubles players,� Gott said. “We have two really good doubles teams coming back from last year and Megan Sole was a great singles player, so I think we have a good mix on our team. That will really come in handy when we get to districts.� The last two seasons have seen the Lady Bulldogs turn the corner on the tennis courts and become a competitive program. Gott hopes the
team can continue the upward trend this season, but also knows the team needs to focus on one match at a time and not get ahead of itself. “We took the girls to William Jewell Tennis Camp this summer and they had to set team goals and one of the goals they set was to be district champions again this year,� Gott said. “I really think with most of our varsity returning we have a good chance to do that. I don’t know what the other schools have lost or gained, but we have been coming out to practice, working on the fundamentals and getting ready for our first match against Lafayette. We just have to take it one match at a time to reach that goal.� The THS tennis season opened Thursday in St. Joseph against Lafayette. The Lady Bulldogs’ next dual will pit them against the Chillicothe Lady Hornets on the road. Trenton’s first home dual will be on Thursday, Sept. 6, when the Lady Bulldogs host Cameron.
