Tri-County Lady Mustangs

The Tri-County Lady Mustangs enter 2012 with a new head coach in Brittney Hixson. This will be Hixson’s first head coaching job and she inherits a pretty young team overall. The young team has made a smooth transition under the new coach due to the fact for several of the players, Hixson is their first coach. “Most of the girls on our team this year are brand new, Hixson said. “We don’t have much experience and our freshmen and sophomore classes are where we have our

biggest number of players. We are all kind of starting out together. Tri-County will be looking to replace both ends of their battery this season after losing their pitcher and catcher to graduation last year. Briana Hixson will step into the circle to pitch for the Lady Mustangs while Samantha Hutchinson will gear up at the catcher position. “Briana is doing okay, Coach Hixson said. “She has never been the lead pitcher before, but she was a back-up if we needed it. She has some big shoes to fill, but she is

working on it. Offensively Tri-County will look to use their athleticism to their advantage. The team is stocked with young players who should be quick on the base paths. “We are a very athletic team, Hixson said. “Even the girls that haven’t played before, that we are working on basic skills with, catch on really quick and they surprise you. We are really athletic and that should be one of the biggest things that help us this year. The Tri-County offense will lean

on Briana Hixson, Hutchinson and Leeza Siddoway pretty hard as they are some of the few players TriCounty has that have experience under their belts. Their performance early on will be especially important as the younger players learn the ropes and get a grasp for the game at the high school level. “Briana is a senior and she is a pretty good hitter and Sam is a pretty good hitter as well, Hixson said. “Leeza Siddoway has played with us before and should contribute as well. Right now, we don’t have a lot of experience so we will just see how things go. Last season Tri-County was 5-10 overall and 3-6 in the HDC Conference. This year the Lady Mustangs are hoping their youthful team can improve on those marks. “We want to have fun, try hard and win a few games, Hixson said. “Our expectations are set high, but we also know that we are brand new. Our players want to finish the season with all of our players intact and try to have a winning season. Tri-County opened its 2012 campaign on Thursday, facing off with Winston on the road. The Lady Mustangs next action will be on Monday as they travel to Polo to face the Lady Panthers. The Tri-County girls don’t have a home game until Thursday, Sept. 14 when they play host to NewtownHarris in Jamesport. There will not be a Tri-County boys team this season.
