playing first base and pitcher will be one of our key contributors,� Coe said. “She will probably hit clean-up for us and then we have a bunch of young girls coming up who have some speed.� As for the season ahead, Coe knows his team is rebuilding and simply hopes to see improvement out of the Lady Tigers on a game to game basis. With every inning played, Newtown will be gaining the ever-valuable experience they need to become a strong team. “I just want the girls to get better every game,� Coe said. “I can’t give wins and losses right now so we just need to get better every game and have fun.�

The Newtown-Harris Lady Tigers enter 2012 after enjoying a successful 2011 campaign that saw the team finish 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the HDC Conference. This year, however, Newtown must replace pitcher Mercedes Foster and shortstop Tara Collings. That duo was responsible for a huge portion of the offense and was the foundation of the Lady Tigers’ defense. Newtown will be a pretty young team this season as they attempt to rebuild and second-year Head Coach Corbin Coe thinks the

defense will need to step up to help keep the young team in ballgames. “I would say we will have to be a defensive team just because we are inexperienced,� Coe said. “We are pretty young so batting-wise I don’t believe we are going to score a lot of runs. We are going to have to do it defensively.� Stepping in to replace Foster in the circle will be Becca Johnson and Roni Busick, who will share pitching duties in 2012. Madison Gibson will move into the shortstop position vacated by Collings.
“Both Becca and Roni will be pitching,� Coe said. “It will just depend on the night, which one is on and which one is off. They have both looked pretty good early on.� As for the offense, Newtown will lean on Johnson, who was one of the team’s top hitters a year ago. Gibson will also be expected to produce some offense. What the Lady Tigers lack in experience may be made up with some speed as Newtown has several athletes who will be dangerous on the base paths. “Becca Johnson coming back and
