Shortstop Maddie Hooyman returns and was an all-region and all-district selection. The now-senior is entering her fourth season as a starter for the Lady Bulldogs and is the only player on the team who was a regular on the state runner-up team in 2009. At the top of the lineup, Hooyman is a dangerous weapon for the Lady Bulldogs with a ton of speed. “With her speed, she has to hit leadoff for us,� Cowling said. “Last year I think she got off to a slower start as she was just adjusting from her summer style to what we want to do out here. But having her at the top of the order just provides us with a spark.
