Spelling Bee winners announced
Cafeterias move to earth-friendly trays
The Laveen Elementary School District’s Spelling Bee was held on January 28. The top three spellers were: First Place- Lindsay Davis, Vista del Sur (middle); Second Place – Ilene Vega, Trailside Point (right); and Third Place-Billy McKelvey, Trailside Point (left).
All Laveen cafeterias have done away with the Styrofoam trays replacing them with an earth-friendly version. The new American-made trays are made from bioplastic, which is a blend of renewable and sustainable sources such as plants and corn starch with plastic. The tray is biodegradable, recyclable, and compostable. The trays are also easier to handle as they are made to hold a milk carton in the center, better distributing the weight.
