Fifty girls from Vista Del Sur and Desert Meadows attended the 2019 Hermanas STEM Conference. The conference, sponsored by Intel and Phoenix College, enabled girls to interact with STEM professionals and students from Intel, ASU, and Phoenix College. In addition, students had the opportunity to attend several breakout sessions including: 3D Printing, DNA Extraction, Coding, Civil Engineering, and Robotics.
District conducting town halls, community surveys The Laveen School District is hosting a number of town halls to gain insight about its schools from a variety of stakeholders. Each school is holding a parent town hall, in addition to several staff forums, to allow parents the opportunity to share feedback on their experiences with Laveen’s schools and district. These sessions will be moderated by Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA). HYA has been contracted by the district as an independent third party to conduct a comprehensive, thorough, and productive community engagement process. The team’s goal is to provide the Laveen District with accurate information identifying and measuring community, parent, student, and staff perceptions of Laveen’s schools. Please visit www.laveeneld.org/community-survey for dates and locations of upcoming town halls. An online survey will also be shared with all families in the coming weeks. .

Cash students send love to ill children
Cheatham students spread kindness
Students at Maurice C. Cash Elementary School sent Valentine’s Day cards to children at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The students created digital cards for children undergoing treatment. The project is part of the school's Kindness Challenge.
Cheatham School has also been focusing on kindness and decorated large hallway boards. Students were each given a heart and instructed to write a kind message. Students have been stopping to read the variety of messages written by their peers and have commented how much they enjoyed being part of the activity.
I know that you are going through hard times and I just wanted to say how brave you are for what you’re going through and I just wanted to say “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Vista 7th graders take Courage Retreat Last week, Vista's 7th grade students participated in the Youth Frontiers Courage Retreat. Through presentations, activities, and small group discussions; the retreat aimed to empower students to be themselves and take positive risks that make a healthy difference for themselves, their peers and their school. It inspired students to follow their hearts instead of the crowd. The retreat was organized by Youth Frontiers, based out of Minnesota. Almost 20 Cesar Chavez High School students, selected based on their leadership ability, also volunteered to support with small group facilitation. Students finished the day learning how to act with courage to build a positive school culture and climate. PAGE 2
