District Dialogue Bi-weekly news from the Laveen Elementary School District Legislature approves budget The state budget was approved by the legislature last weekend. March 13, 2015 Laveen celebrates National School Breakfast Week
Several special visitors joined students for breakfast last week in celebration of National School Breakfast Week. Miss Phoenix visited Cheatham, Miss Scottsdale visited Rogers Ranch, and Miss Arizona and Miss Arizona Teen visited Desert Meadows. The visits were to help encourage breakfast participation. Laveen schools offer free breakfast to all students in the cafeteria before school.
Gila River hires advisor for Laveen The Gila River Indian Community has hired a Johnson-O'Malley Advisor for the Laveen Elementary School District. Danielle Allen, will advise Native American students at Laveen Elementary School regarding their academic performance and attendance, provide guidance and advisement to the other schools in the district, and assist in coordinating educational and cultural outreach activities for the Native American and Laveen community. Danielle will also work with the JOM Advisor at Betty Fairfax to ensure a smooth transition of our students as they complete 8th grade and go on to high school. Trailside Point takes Gold Trailside Point has earned a Gold Positive Behavior and Interventions Supports of Arizona Achievement Award for demonstrating high fidelity PBIS implementation and student outcomes.
Breakfast in the Classroom increases participation Cheatham School launched a Breakfast in the Classroom program this week and saw a 193% increase in participation. Normally, students eat breakfast in the cafeteria before school. But, in an effort to increase participation and ensure all students start the school day off with a nutritional meal, Cheatham students ate during their first period when they have announcements, attendance, and other morning routines. The school previously served an average of 270 meals per morning in the cafeteria. This week, they are serving an average of 793 meals each morning in the classroom. The District Dialogue is issued twice monthly.
