Board selects name for School No. 8
Principal named for School No. 8
The Laveen Governing Board selected the name for School No.8 as well as a mascot and school colors. The new school, opening in August 2016 will be named Paseo Pointe School. Its mascot will be the ram and the school colors will be green and gold. A group of parents and community members attended a planning meeting in December and developed the proposed choices. They were unanimously approved by the Governing Board at the January 7 meeting.
Kristi Pashley has been named the principal of Laveen’s newest school, Paseo Pointe, opening in August 2016. Pashley has been with the Laveen Elementary School District since 2008. She is currently the principal at Vista del Sur Accelerated School and previously served as Assistant Principal at Trailside Point.
Finn, Harris are November’s Employees of the Month Employees of the month for November are Zuzana Finn, 3rd grade teacher at Desert Meadows and Tomas Harris, computer technician at Trailside Point. While relatively new to Desert Meadows, Finn has embraced the school’s vision, mission, and purpose with complete dedication. Her desire to develop her students is evident in the consistent increase of her students’ academic achievements and individual student growth percentages. She is dedicated to the local community and actively engages in school, district, and community sponsored events. Harris is always willing to go above and beyond for Trailside’s staff and students Finn Harris to ensure technology is working properly. He is responsive and efficient in handling technology requests and strives to ensure the school’s technology is up to standard and always does so with a smile on his face.
Former Laveen student honored Former Laveen School student, Mickey Diaz was recently nominated to the 2016 All-Arizona Academic Team by South Mountain Community College President, Dr. Shari Olsonby. This nomination awards him with four semesters of tuition waivers to any one of the three Arizona public universities. Diaz plans to transfer to Grand Canyon University Honors College this fall and earn a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. He aspires to become an automotive journalist. .
