Love = Strength Love is in the air, all over the UK the joy of love, comes to life as we celebrate Valentines day. This year my partner and i celebrate our 15th year together and as many Valentines. Our love is special, and as we spend 24/7 together , my partner is my soul mate and best friend. We take every days challenges and sort them together, we enjoy what we do together and we are proud to say that our love is special. We through our happiness also like to share all that is good, and lend a hand and open our doors to those that need a helping hand. We are proud to be the owners of 3SIXTY magazine and February 5th we celebrate our 1st Birthday as the owners of Marble Media Publishing. Since the beginning we have had a roller coaster ride , but it is the love that we have for each other that gives us the strength to carry on. We give thanks for what we have been blessed with and hope that we can continue to share the joy we have. On the Queer As talent home front, Ms Jason and Jo Francis decided
Well Done Let me say well done for the November issue of 360. I know from reading the editorial comments that it must not have been issue not to repeat what happened with October’s issue and to prove that taking over the magazine was the right decision to make. I think Tony V deserves commending for the hard work that has gone into this issue, the hard decisions that have had to be made and no doubt the difficult sacrifices that have had to be made in order to make 360 work. It is also nice to read that amongst the gloom and loss of staff, members of the LGBT community helped to pitch in and keep parts of the magazine together. It is that type of community spirit that is sorely lacking in todays community. So well done guys, all who were involved. Daryl Taylor, London

to pull out of the competition of their own accord and for their own business dealings, as many venues told them if they were to continue with QAT they would not get work in various venues. We have had nasty mail, people complaining over the fact we have had QAT in a church or hotel or gay friendly bar, but bottom line is we have put on a non-profit competition to offer to talented members of the LGBT

JOE MCELDERRY Joe has had a fantastic start to the year by winning the X factor, but now he hard work will really begin! I feel he needs to toughen up a little bit as individuals and the press begin to poke bout in his personal life and try to tarnish Joe’s clean living image. From April things really begin to speed up for him and unexpected results from his hard work will defiantly pay off, with his ever present mentor, and now close friend Cheryl Cole, Joe will be moving about in he right circles, an opportunity to record a track with
someone unconventional to his style of music will be appealing and a sound track to a big movie is certainly on the cards! Talking of cards, the Tarot that I have pulled for Joe is, The Four Of Pentacles, this tells me that with busy times and hard work, Joe will stay very grounded and financially stable very quickly, he can stay cool in the middle of all the madness, which is good as it does show that a secret or rumour could surface, challenging his sexuality, my advice is stay true to yourself and don’t be afraid of what people will think, it is your
RUSSELL BRANDT AND KATY PERRY This is truly a loved up couple that suit each other so well, they both are unconventional quirky and appreciate the same things in life! It’s good to see that Katy has managed to calm Russell down from his wild antics of the past, something that if he did continue wouldn’t turn out great! There work loads and commitments may be a strain this year, and a fall out or speculation of a love child on Russell’s part may add salt to the wound, but with this impending marriage on the horizon I feel there will be a few surprises in store as nothing will be what it seems. These two love birds find strength in each other as they still enjoy the wilder things in life, but a new pet just may turn into a new baby, it will calm them down, but they will still have fun as always even though the pressure will be on especially in the public domain! ‘Strength’ and ‘King of Cups’ are the Tarots I have pulled for these two, showing stability, confidence, more responsibility, and additions! This well suited pair will go where ever life takes them this year but certainly the couple to watch I celeb land. Katy’s crystal is a ‘Tiger’s eye’, keeping her focused, dynamic, sensual and protected, Russell’s Crystal is an ‘Obsidian’ Dark, alluring, grounded and creative, we will see those acting skills a lot more!
ALEX REID Love him or hate him, Alex has defiantly been making waves in celebsville and all the mags here in the UK! From his reading, he defiantly comes across as a really decent guy, he has had to do a lot of growing up in the past six months and from it starting out as a lot of fun and a bit of a novelty ,has now developed into something crazy which has made im very wary of al his action’s. His relationship with Jordan always makes him out to be a lap dog, but as soon as he is out of the Celeb Big Brother House the ball is defiantly in his court! Alex is talented in a lot of different area’s and from past experiences knows what it’s like to struggle to get by, from doing this reading he does seem now to have lost some direction but feels confident that something will come along after Celeb BB to put him on the straight and narrow. I feel Jordan has introduced him to some publicity stunts that haven’ exactly worked in his favour, she should realise that she is lucky t have someone who will stick by her these days! The Tarot card that came out for Alex is ‘The Fool’, representing, impending change for the better, taking a risk and it turning around in his favour to be able to do as he wants, I’m still not 100% convinced his relationship to Jordan will last the year without some serious work, I also feel a grandfather spirit close by that guides him. Alex’s crystal is a ‘Hematite’ keeping him, fit and strong minded; help him with decision making, grounding and protection from media crap!
life after all! His aura is green showing natural luck ,energy and new challenges , also be careful of those close that you are unsure of, they WILL let you down! Joe’s crystal is a ‘Jade’ keeping him cool, grounded, creative and successful. WWW.GAVINCROMWELL.COM

JERUSALEM Jerusalem is a comic, contemporary vision of life in our green and pleasant land. On St George’s Day, the morning of the local county fair, Johnny Byron, local waster and modern day Pied Piper is a wanted man. The council officials want to serve him an eviction notice, his children want their dad to take them to the fair, Troy Whitworth wants to give him a serious kicking and a motley crew of mates want his ample supply of drugs and alcohol. STOMP STOMP is about a group of people, with very strong personalities, who work together using simple building blocks to create something complex , something everyone can identify with: everyone has, at some time, to engage in group activity, whether they like or know the people they are working with or not. It’s the little idiosyncrasies, the differences between people, and the games of one-upmanship that ensue, which define the group dynamic. AMBASSADORS THEATRE LONDON PLAYS THROUGH TO DECEMBER
MOUSETRAP THE MOUSETRAP has now been running for 56 years during which time over 23,000 performances have been given. It is quite simply a great piece of theatrical history because of what it is, a whodunit written by the greatest crime writer of all time. A West End staple for over 50 years,THE MOUSETRAP is the longest consistently running play in the history of British theatre. This world record breaking production continues to enthral, to entertain and to thrill audiences who still flock to the St Martin’s Theatre from every corner of the globe. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner....
SIX DEGREES OF SEPERATION The term ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ refers to the notion that anyone in the world is only six steps away from making contact with someone else. The people you know count as one step, and the people they know count as another and so on. It’s an idea concerned with social networks and the fact that the world is a smaller place than we might imagine. You may have encountered the concept in the game ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ where you have to link film actors to Kevin Bacon in no more than six connections, based on the films they have acted in. JOSHUA RADIN Unbelievable vocals, and endless ‘whisper rock’ created a great atmosphere in the academy. Aswell as a great back catalogue of tunes, Radin unveiled some new material, which to me seemed kind of death-cab esque in some places, and a slight more rock edge to his performance, but still that radin twist on it. The acoustic cover of Dylan’s Don’t think twice it’s alright just topped off the night in great style. Tickets available at all leading booking agents
PINK Pink sung live the whole way through which sounded absolutely fantastic and her performance was second to none. It was a throughly entertaining night and everyone was out of their seats dancing. BOLOGNA “TI AMO” “George Prior visits the Gay Capital of Italy.” Photos: Vito Arcomdino The moment you set foot in Bologna you’ll notice it is full of beauty: the architecture, the piazzas, the boys. Almost without exception, the boys and girls of Bologna look as if they’ve just stepped out on to a catwalk. What’s really annoying is that it all seems so effortless. Toned and tanned, and inevitably clad in cool brand names, they stroll around the ancient and, of course, ‘beautiful’ porticoed arcades. With it also being the home of Lamborghini and Maserati, even the cars are beautiful. With everyone looking so damned good, with a money-can’t-buy-class air of confidence, and absolutely everyone people watching, I was left with a near-constant question: are they gay or straight? Even with my gaydar set to maximum, it’s all a bit hit and miss. But it’s one of the things you’ll love about one of Italy’s most charismatic, classy and under-rated destinations. I checked in to Hotel San Donato which is right in the heart of the historic centre. Although not the cheapest accommodation in the town, the views over the meandering streets and the medieval towers from the rooftop terrace are breathtaking. The relaxed, friendly and chic atmosphere in the hotel reflects that of the city itself. It’s a world away from Bologna’s northern neighbour, Milan, where the prices are as high as the level of snobbery. For many years, Bologna has been Italy’s most liberal city, ruled by the centre-left and an “army of students” who live there. Founded in 1088, the university is Europe’s oldest and the 80,000 students form a fifth of the total population. The students and the politics mean all things gay are embraced. With it being home to the national gay movement and the first place gay couples could apply for housing benefits, it’s unquestionably Italy’s gay capital. Although for a town with so many homos, there’s no gay ghetto as such. There are
gay venues but I found the most electric nightlife in Bologna is mixed, which contributed to my ‘is he gay or straight?’ dilemma after a couple of drinks in the lively student area around Piazza Verdi. If you’re after some exclusively gay action, you’ll need a membership card, Arcigay, for most gay bars and club You can usually buy one for 8 euros at the entrance to the venues themselves. But I got mine at Cassero (Via Don Giovanni Minzoni) Bologna’s Gay and Lesbian Center and the Arcigay HQ. The centre is built into one of the city’s medieval gates and well worth a look. In addition, there’s a big House party at Cassero on Saturdays. Don’t bother heading there before about 1 a.m and expect to queue to get in. Unlike some other European cities, nightlife starts relatively early here and most restaurants are buzzing by 9 p.m. Not having one bad meal, I reckon you’d be extremely unlucky to get a bad meal in Bologna. Great Place to eat Taverna dei Lords (Via Nazario Sauro) is a gayfriendly restaurant with funky art nouveau interiors and some of the best Italian food I’ve had. In fact, I went there twice. Like most eateries it is good value. Indeed, you’ll probably not spend more than £25 per head for a three course meal with wine at most restaurants in the town. Walk off the indulgence of dinner through some of the 40 kilometres of enchanting porticoed walkways (built to keep you cool in the summer and dry in the winter).
Even if you don’t fit into the ‘young’ and/or ‘beautiful’ categories you should go just to see the venue. You’ll be impressed. After some adventure, I headed about five kilometres outside the city, to the Roveri area, to Red which sees a mixed crowd throwing shapes to commercial house until the early hours. Culture In a town full of palaces, churches, squares and monuments, you’ll spend your days exploring the town’s incredible history . At the epi-centre of it all is Piazza Maggiore, famed for its wellpreserved palaces and for being the site of the Fountain of Neptune. This 16th-century fountain depicts Neptune in all his masculine glory with bulging muscles and legendary manhood. The Catholic Church forced the sculptor to alter Neptune’s left arm to cover this, which defenders described as “artistic castration.” Shopping As you wend your way through Bologna’s labyrinth of Medieval streets, you’ll stumbled across small, family-run boutiques including Majani (Via Carbonesi) Italy’s oldest sweet shop and Bruno Magli (Galleria Cavour) selling leather bags, jackets, coats and shoes for men and women. All the big highstreet brands are here too including Diesel and Zara, and the prices are a little cheaper than in Britain. When you’re thinking of a cheaper kind of city break, most of us wouldn’t immediately think of Italy. But Bologna has the style of Milan, the history of Florence and the energy of Roma at much more sensible prices.
Gay Venues Most of the clubs kick off around midnight. Scuderia (Piazza Verdi), set in the former stable block of an old palace, draws the young and, guess what, beautiful. 3SIXTY MAGAZINE LTD | 15
REKYJAVIK
VODKA STREET PARTIES Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, is small and achingly sophisticated. The world’s most northerly capital city will seduce you with its eccentric contrasts, its colourful buildings, its quirky people (Björk anyone?), crazy nightlife and rebellious soul. Full of high-end bars, restaurants, museums and art galleries, the city is, for a national capital, diminutive and easy to navigate. It’s best explored on foot and at a chilled pace. In a city where the harbour front is about five blocks from the seat of parliament, the usual dramas of rushing out of your hotel armed with guidebooks and to-do lists are redundant. The only problem you may encounter is the place names. There seems to be a theory: why put one letter in a word when four will do? Sometimes you will forget you’re in a capital city and you should take on your days here in a relaxed way: see a few of the sights, do a little shopping, stop for a leisurely lunch, go for a swim in a geothermal pool, take a coffee, freshen-up at your hotel, sample a traditional Icelandic dinner and then hit the bars. Rekyjavik, sitting alongside the flint-grey sea and the unforgiving, jutting hills, mixes the minimalism of Scandanavia with the exaggerated-chic of the Alps. Ithas small town charm with the energy of a big city as it cherishes its Viking past but is monumentally progressive. To get a stunning overall impression of the city, climb the hill in the centre of Reykyjavik to Hallgrimskirkja, the highest building on

the city. A lift will take you to the summit, where you’ll see the entire city and all its blazingly colourful rooftops spread out before you. And on clear days, you’ll see the breathtaking Snaefellsnes glacier. With a multitude of hostels, guesthouses, hotels, and apartments peppering the city, Reykjavik has accommodation to suit those with an unlimited budget as well as those with a more constrained purse. However, if you visit in the summer months, it’s recommended you book at least a month in advance, especially at the smaller hotels and at the gay-owned establishments. The Hilton Reykajyvik Nordica is Icelandair’s flagship hotel. Formerly the Hotel Esja, the building was stripped to its core and to create an entirely new hotel, with world-class rooms, spa and gym. When checking in ask for a room overlooking Mount Esja. A more boutique option is the Phoenix Hotel (www.phonenix.is) is a smart, tranquil nine-room hotel in the heart of the city, owned by gay locals who have an impeccable knowledge of know their city. They’ll even make your excursion and restaurant bookings for you, and can often get special deals. Where San Francisco had Harvey Milk, Reykjavik has Árni Einarsson, its unofficial mayor. He opened Room With a View (www.roomwithaview.is) 10 years ago and although he’s just sold it he continues to manage it. The 22 apartments, sleeping up to seven, are newly decorated and offer fully equipped kitchens. The top floor apartments include access to the balcony
Jacuzzi. Arni will tell you, but you’ll quickly realise it for yourself, that most of the action takes place on Laugavegur and Austerstaeti. This is where you’ll find the majority of the bars, cafés, boutiques, museums and galleries. Nearby you’ll come across the City Hall in the historic Austurvollur Square, presided over by a statue of Jon Sigurdsson, the 19th-century hero who fought for Iceland’s independence. From the square it’s only a short walk to the vibrant Reykjavik Harbour where you should experience The Elding Whale Watching trips (www.elding.is). Boats depart from here, weather permitting, April to September and if you don’t spot whales, you’ll be offered another trip for free. The city’s on-going appeal also comes from its outer-space-esque surroundings and its manic nightlife. During the week you would be forgiven for thinking you’re in a sleepy harbour town, but come the weekend the Icelanders come out to party.
REKYJAVIK
DON’T LEAVE EARLY Living for the weekend as this young population does, the party never stops even when it is constantly dark in the winter or when the sun never hardly sets in the summer. Although the atmosphere is raucous you’ll never have a sense of aggression. Reykjavik has become infamous for its explosive music scene and its hedonistic Friday-night ‘runtur’, a frentic pub crawl round the uber-cool, boutique clubs and bars. But don’t leave too early as thanks to the high price of alcohol, the locals tend to drink at home until around midnight and people are still crowding the streets at 6 a.m. Most bars are mixed and the Icelanders are open-minded towards gay people. In fact the level of integration means there is no real gay scene as such, except Café Cozy, which turns into a bar at night and leather club, MSC. Reykjavik’s nightlife is a transient thing. Clubs open, become the hottest thing, then close down again. It’s hard keeping tabs. With Bar Barbara (Laugarvegur, 22) Reykjavik’s gay life comes full circle as it’s situated in the same building that housed Iceland’s very first gay bar. Offering full-on clubbing in one space and a more relaxed lounge floor upstairs, it’s proving to be extremely popular. Given Iceland’s Viking past, it is not surprising that one of the biggest gay subculture is that of the bear and they even have their own festival. ‘Bears on ice’ (www.gayice.is) takes place each September and is a four day event including special dinners, parties, sight-seeing tours into the Icelandic wilderness. But at the pinnacle of Iceland’s gay and lesbian calendar is Hinsegin Dagar, the annual Gay Pride (www.gaypride.is), held on the second weekend of August each year. The festival has grown to be one of the
country’s most popular events for gays and straights. 10 percent of the country’s total population turns out for the parade. Even if you’re there just for the weekend, you must take a trip outside city. A country made from the energy of the tectonic plates, fire, ice, water and wind, Iceland’s landscapes appeal to visitors ranging from the adventurous off-road types to those who prefer the comfort of a tour buses and cocktails at the end of the day. Tours run to the main attractions every day in the high season. Gullfoss (the Golden Falls) is considered to be the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland with the Hvítá River cascading down 105 feet and hurling up spray and mist to create mesmering rainbows.
specialty is lobster, although there are many other delicious choices. Located in a smartly re-vamped 19th-century building, the lavish experience won’t disappoint. The other truly incredible Icelandic restaurants include Vid Tjörnina and Naustid, and there a number of great Italians, Steakhouses and veggie restaurants for those who are not inclined to Norsk cuisine. Although still not cheap, the country’s financial meltdown makes now a good time to visit this enchanting city. Small but perfectly formed, Rekyjavik remains one of Europe’s best kept secrets. What it lacks in size, it definitely makes up for in fun. Sometimes, it seems, size doesn’t count for everything.
Just a few kilometers west of the falls is Geysir, an area of simmering mud holes, boiling vents, and erupting water shoots. The Great Geysir has been dormant since 1916, but Strokur, its smaller sister, erupts every few minutes. Another must-see outside the city’s boundaries is The Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa and one of the most-visited attractions in the country. Its water, sourced from a mile below the earth’s surface, is rich in minerals and stays at 100 degrees. After all that adventure, you’ll need some nourishment. The cost of eating out is notoriously expensive but the seafood (especially the salmon, lobster and trout) is sensational and should be sampled whenever possible. There’s a wide range of restaurants and cafés, so even the pickiest of us will find something.

SYLVIA TOSUN Out & About in NYC To celebrate we got twisted.... DJ Twisted Dee was in town spinning at Club 57 and a few close friends and I dropped by to thank her for supporting my record and to dance our bums off!
SYLVIA AND PROMOTER MARK NELSON
“What’s the F word?”
OUT& ABOUT IN NYC First of all….. (really?)
I can hardly believe it! I found out this week that my collaboration with the fabulous (and gay) Brit duo, Mark Loverush and Kinky Roland (a.k.a Loverush UK!), “5 Reasons”, is the #1 Record of 2009 on the DMC UK Club Chart! The record occupying the second spot was my personal dance floor favorite of the year - David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over”. How did this happen? As if that wasn’t enough proof that I must have slipped into some sort of delusional psychosis (induced by Don Julio Anejo Tequilla), I had also just been informed that my collaboration with Italian producers Noferini & Marini, “Push ‘n’ Pull”, reached the pinnacle (#1) of the USA’s Billboard Hot Dance Club Chart, amidst releases by J-Lo, Shakira, Janet, Rihanna, and David Guetta.
I must be dreaming (don’t wake me!) To celebrate we got twisted.... DJ Twisted Dee was in town spinning at Club 57 and a few close friends and I dropped by to thank her for supporting my record and to dance our bums off!
What’s the F Word? Two of the top promoters in the city, Michael Formika Jones and my dear friend, Mark Nelson, throw this hot and decadent weekly party called the F Word; they did it at a cool club this week, called Rebel. The venue was packed with delicious, shirtless men, a few gorgeous hags, trannys, and some drag queens, sprinkled in for good measure. To celebrate “Push ‘n Pull” going #1, Mark asked me to perform at the event this past weekend. I began my performance up in the go-go boy cage, then tip-toed down the narrow stairs singing my song, “Underlying Feeling”, with a cabaret flair, working my way towards the stage. Meanwhile, my wonderful dancers (replete with pink fans, tribal sticks, and colorful custom body suits), choreographed by the very talented Derek Mitchell, were dazzling the visual senses with their edgy synchronized movements and my arrival on stage felt like the perfect union! Segueing into my song “5 Reasons”, and then “Push ‘n Pull”, the energy I felt from my dancers and the audience reminded me of why I do this…. simply exhilarating!
ing quite all right. Suddenly, with the sweet breath of a feather, Amanda Lepore leaned over and whispered into my ear, words I had never expected. “You should become
a red-head!” Well, if I wasn’t feeling great already, I certainly was at the point when Mz. Lepore extended her grand expertise. Hmm, something to consider….
Put a lid on it… I’ve been invited to attend this red carpet event for make-up-artist-to-the-stars, Scott Barnes, who has written a book about beauty; there’s going to be a party for it at the Gansevoort Hotel in their new ‘Provocateur Room’. Of course, I’ll be wearing The Blonds, but since my partner looks fierce wearing stylish hats, we paid a visit to the amazing hat designer, Victor Osbourne. Dazzled by his selections, and with a tip of the brim, we left his store with six new gorgeous hats! From Beret to Cloche, we were certainly happy heads!
After the show, a bunch of us were back behind the VIP area/ DJ booth, while DJ Bill Coleman rocked the floor with a fun and energetic set. There was plenty of aqua vitae seeping into our veins and were all feel-

UP CLOSE
&
PERSONAL
E.N.V UK Rapper and Producer gets up close and personal with Tony V to find out where it all began . Young, determind and fresh out of the barrell, E.N.V’s here, Queer and he isn’t going to be stopping.. T: . At what age did you decide that you wanted a career in singing? E.N.V:: Since I was a little boy.. I always wanted to be a Popstar.. I thought that was everyones dream?... However my itention was never to be a rapper, its just something that happened over the course of my life and through the progression of my music. From the age of six i was classically trained as a pianist, which then led on to me becoming a DJ, then an MC and now finally a Rapper and Producer. T: Did you do any training and do you have a mentor? E.N.V: As I said before I was classically trained on the piano from the age of six and I also studied Music Technology, Audio Engineering and Recording Arts at College and Universtiy and this has definately advance my production and writing techiquies. I havent had any vocal training but I have been rapping now for almost 8 years... so plenty of practice. T: Who has been your greatest influence in your career path? E.N.V: Throughout my life I have had many great influnenes but the majority of them have not been popstars like most people would think. My biggest influence has been my piano teacher as without her I wouldnt even know how to put two notes together... Also my parents have played a big part too as they’ve always told me if you want something, got out there and make it happen, and thats what I’m doing. T: Are you openly gay in the circuit and how long have you been working the circuit? E.N.V: I am an openly gay artist cause its a part of who I am and I dont see no reason to hide that.. I know my music is good so I don’t think sexuality should affect how people perceive it.. I have been working on both the gay and the mainstream circut for almost 2 years now and I love it...Performing is by far the best perk of working in this Industry, closely followed by creating original and fresh new music. T: If you could perform anywhere in the Uk where would that be? E.N.V:I think I would either like to perform at The Indigo in the O2 or the actually main O2 arena. Or somewhere complety random like on the London Eye or on Brighton Pier.. Somewhere memorable. T: Have you played any gigs with any big names and at which event.? E.N.V: I have played some massive gigs now inlcuding London, Brighton and San Francisco Pride with some major headline acts including Solange Knowles, Booty Luv, Bass Hunter, Kele le Rock, Peter Andre and Sam Obernik and am hoping to be supporting a major mainstream pop act on their world tour this year but you’ll just have to wait and see who they are. T: Do you write your own lyrics and music.? E.N.V::I do write and produce alot of my own material, however I do also work with producers and songwriters across the world too and this is good cause I know I am geting to work with the best people I can and this also
allows my sounds to be different and influenced from all different parts of the world. T: When do you hope to bring a CD out or have you? E.N.V: I released my Debut Album back in August 2008 and my latest single “We’re Taking Over” was relesed on the 13th of July 2009. I am planing to release my next single in May this year and my new ll be released in the Autumn of this year.. Dates will be announced soon. T: You have been a celebrity judge at Queer As Talent Are you looking forward to the Grand finals and what advice do you give the finalists? E.N.V: I am looking foward to the Grand Finals...I think its good to be involved in helping someones dreams come true and the only advice I can offer is go smash it, do your best and dont give up. T: What other entertainment work are you working on right now.? E.N.V: Im working on my new album which is almost there.. just a few more tracks to finish....Also planing my second US and Canadian Tour and ha finger in a few pies.. So watch this space. >3SIXTYMOTORS Winds from the Desert
THE PEOPLES COUPE VW, fresh from successfully replacing the iconic Beetle with the now equally iconic Golf in 1974,then went on to launch the Guigiaro designed Scirocco in the same year. Named bravely after the Sahara wind that arrives in southern Europe at hurricane speeds, the car was a pretty, well proportioned, good to drive 2 door coupe and was based on Golf underpinnings. It proved a huge success for VW with over half a million sold during its 8 year production run. In 1982 it was replaced with the Mk 2 version styled in house, but it didn’t quite have the looks of its forbear and faced stiffer competition in the market place. It soldiered on for 10 years until 1992, but was then well passed its sell by date. Having not learned its lesson VW then gave us the Corrado which was an accomplished if slightly odd looking coupe which sold in limited numbers until 1995. That marked the end of VW’s coupes until 2008 when they unveiled the new Scirroco. The new car was almost a carbon copy of the 2006 IROC motor show concept car. It went back to basics in that it looked amazing, was great to drive and sensibly priced. It made no shame of trading on the old name. It has sold very well since its late 2008 launch. There is a broad range of engine options ranging from 1.4 - 2.0 litre turbo petrols and two state of the art 2.0 litre diesels. It is priced from £18860 to £28295 for the just introduced “R” version which packs 265PS and will accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 6.0 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155 MPH. There are a good range of colour and trim options which should suite most tastes. You will certainly be noticed if you specify the luminous” Viper Green “, but the car looks better in white which is the new colour of the moment and with the gorgeous 19 inch “Lugano” wheels. The Scirocco really is a great car to drive. The 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine is superb and it can be mated to VW’s excellent DSG paddle-shift gearbox. Despite being based on the Golf, it just doesn’t feel like it shares components. On the road it feels planted and hugely responsive to the throttle. It will also cruise in a refined and relaxing manner. The interior is Golf – like, which means beautifully made if slightly conservative, but with a clear logic to its layout. It is not huge in the rear but will fit 2 adults in reasonable comfort over moderate distances. What sells this car is a combination of ultra competitive pricing couple with stunning looks. A well specced 2.0 litre turbo will cost you little more than £20,000. For that money there is little competition. The same spec Golf is no cheaper! A BMW 1 Series Coupe with similar performance will cost you in excess of £25000. Another sobering thought is that a top of the range Ford Focus is now virtually the same money. It really is very difficult to say anything negative about this car. It is just so utterly good at being a coupe. So well done VW - you have been true to spirit of original, 35 years after its birth.
Not quite a convertible!
FIAT 500C You have to admire FIAT. Teetering on the edge of bankruptcy for years they rediscover what they are good at, which is making small cars, and give us the retro 500. Just as the original 500 or Topolino was cute beyond belief, its 2007 recreation managed to be equally as desirable despite being much bigger. It’s hard to argue that a modern Mini is anywhere near as cute as the 1959 original. Competitive pricing has been a key to its enormous success and FIAT has now introduced a convertible version. Except it’s not really a convertible. What it is though is a standard car with a roll back fabric roof, which of course is fair enough. What is not fair enough is that it costs model for model around £3000 extra. Staring at £11170 it’s not expensive but it’s difficult to justify the premium over the standard car. I suspect somehow this car will still sell because you will fall in love with it and find a way to ignore the price.
LAUNCH PARTY KENSINGTON
STEPHANIE STARLET MEETS THE STARS Stephanie Starlet, has joined 3SIXTY magazine, and will share her interviews and highlights from around the UK. In her first edition Stephanie Meets Katherine Ellis, Songwriter, Mother and Businesswoman.
A lot of people could be forgiven for believing that Katherine Ellis is the ‘’singer from the Freemasons’’ . But those more musically knowledged and those that dig deeper will soon realise that she has been filling dancefloors since 1990 . Not just a vocal talent but a skilled songwriter , businesswoman and as i found out a nurturing modern mother and wife. Recording with notable artists Ruff Driverz,Roger Sanchez, Lee Coombs, Tom Stephan, Joey Negro, Soul Avengerz and the Freemasons to name a few . I made trax to meet Katherine on a cold January evening at her gorgeous home in the heart of T.V and film land between Teddington and Shepperton where I was greeted by Katherine looking dazzling , her two charming children Zebedee and Gulliver and husband artist and photographer Max Ellis. After a tour of her stunning home ,a few glasses of vino and an introduction to family pet , bearded dragon BooBoo by the kids I settled down to probe deeper. (Photo by www.maxphotographic.com)

Paul Rogerz from Free (singer with Queen) ACDC rock singers, if you asked me again tomorrow I’d prob have a different list . SS: What’s your favourite gig ? KE: Well I have sang for others as well as solo . I used to sing for Belinda Carlisle we supported James Brown at a private party that was quite amazing being so close to him I opened for the Grand Prix in Monaco , supported Rod Stewart at a football stadium ,gigs alone Id say the Russian super clubs like Dyagiler Project , Opera, Mardi Gras in Sydney with Freemasons performing to 10,000 people I say let me hear you say yeah , and they all scream back at me that was pretty awesome. SS: Who would you like to duet with KE: Paul Rogerz ( Queens singer) SS: You sing Spanish on la Fiesta, Dreaming are you fluent in Spanish ? KE: No I’m not I speak a little, I get by I lived there for a while but I did write that track. SS: What stars do you think are hot? KE: It would have to be Johnny Depp in Chocolate , George Clooney in Oceans Eleven and Jude Law in Holiday I love his character in that . SS: Who would you like to work with that you haven’t already ? KE: I’ve always thought that Ben Watt , everything but the girl Tracey Thorns husband
would be great , or the producers of Lady Ga Ga . SS: So how do your gay gigs differ from the straight ones ? KE: Gay audiences seem to get me and my humour and are more accepting of me and very welcoming SS: Have you ever done any musical theatre? KE: No but I’d love to , and play Nancy in Oliver (Katherine bursts into song and gives a belting Nancy rendition accent and all and laughs, I’m very impressed) Or the Mama character in Chicago would be good, maybe I’ll put them on my to do list . SS: What’s your favourite gay club ? KE: Arc in Sydney , Flamingoes in Blackpool and the Vauxhall Tavern . SS: Do you get lonely travelling so much ? KE: Sometimes I get to take Max with me or my assistant Stew , but I have video conferencing and I read a lot but of course I do miss my family if they’re not with me. SS: Do you write your lyrics first like poetry or to music? KE: I tend to write to music but I often have the theme idea and melody in my head straight away .
SS: Have you had any musical influences KE: My friends mother lent me an album by fantastic American folk singer songwriter Janice Ian the album was between the lines, amazing story telling songs , and showy singers like Streisand and Midler SS: How did you meet your husband Max KE: Max was first made aware of me when he was watching top of the pops with his ex partner and I was singing Gold Bug Whole lotta Love . They both agreed I was the sexiest woman they’d seen which I find very amusing .I met him because he did the single cover for the record and I met him at the
“Gay Audiences seem to get me and my humour and are more accepting of me and very welcoming.”
Beatmasters birthday party .But if my make up artist mate who had a car hadn’t wanted to go Id never have met him .It was eyes across the room and then a 2 year absence but then we were married 3 weeks after that, definitely a whirlwind romance . SS. Who is your favourite DJ or producer KE: Roger Sanchez and the Freemasons are fantastic but I don’t tend to go to too many clubs as I’m performing in them already working . SS:Do you get nervous before gigs KE: No not really I like to just get there and do it , I store up all my energy all day and focus I like to just do it then socialise afterwards . SS: How much say do you get in mixes KE: I get approval on the original track but I would normally say if I didn’t like something on other mixes SS: Why are you not in the video for When you touch me (Freemasons) KE: I really wanted to be but the production company were set on the idea for Sweet Charity , I have a clause now in my contract to say I must be in videos for my songs . SS: Do you plan to do more with the Freemasons ? KE: We talk about it but we are both busy touring but I’m sure we will yes , lets say yes . SS: What is the future for Katherine Ellis ? KE: I would imagine it will keep going steadily as it has for the last 24 years and build I don’t really have an interest in producing or the studio environment , I like the bit I do ,the writing and the singing but I’m not into the technical bit , Who knows what the future holds for any of us . And on that poignant note I end the interview to do some pictures which is difficult cos Katherine keeps making me laugh so much , she has a mad energy and a confidence that seems to be built on intelligence and being centred and content and from where I was looking , an international career, a gorgeous family , and an infectious laugh, life can only get better for the wonderful Diva that is Katherine Ellis . photo by www.maxphotographic.com

Well hello folks, and welcome to my first column in the new 3Sixty Mag. Now I’m not too sure how many inches the editor is going to give me so I‘m going to get in quick and let you know what gossip I have gained this month. I’m going to be spreading the news that I gain from Liverpool and Manchester, but I may slip in a couple of nuggets from elsewhere as and when I gain it. This month I have learned of some major gossip from Manchester that Essential, Manchester’s Biggest and most outlandish Gay club is closing down. Nigel Martin Smith (the guy originally behind Take That) has decided to move his focus away from the club and onto the new boy band (Asbro, however this name is currently being changed) He has stated that even though he has sold the premises to another company, he will still be involved on a consultancy basis with the new club that will open later this year, and he is excited that the Gay Village will be home to a new sexy venue. Another interesting thing this month is the branching out of one of Manchester’s newest and up and coming Chefs. He has taken on the residency at Bar de Reve, 57 Hilton Street, Manchester. He has taken on the role as executive chef in this bar, and is offering a new and exciting menu, which is an eclectic mix of old and new dishes, with his own unique twist. The food is amazing , and has to be tried. When I dropped in the staff were more than helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. Although the restaurant isn’t in the Gay Village, it’s in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The Northern Quarter is fast becoming the bohemian area of Manchester with a varied mix of clubs, bars, shops and restaurants, and is becoming the haven for Gay men and women. Back in the Village, Churchills the mainstay of Canal Street is welcoming back Misty Chance every Friday Night from 9pm – 3am. She will be bringing you a mix of cheeky whit, pop, chart and cheese and her own unique style of entertainment. Bringing a bit of camp back to the village on a weekend. Which has been lacking for the last couple of months.
Meanwhile over in Liverpool, the year is well underway with happenings in the all the pubs and clubs. Other exciting news in Liverpool, and its something for the Girls is... Girls Go Down - Liverpool’s finest and most fabulous night for lesbian and bisexual women. They are coming back with a bang for 2010 with their new residence at Puzzle Bar on Stanley Street. Their first night is the 6th Feb. With two floors (and two bars) of the finest music and entertainment. The team reliably inform me that they have masses of things planned for the months ahead. The theme for the first event is ‘Lesbian Icons’. Dressing up is optional, dressing to impress is not :) Who’s your iconic alter-ego? Their Facebook profile promises that “DJs Michelle and Billie will be spinning the sounds you want to hear all night long with a jam packed party mix guaranteed to have you on the dance floor from dusk til the early hours! There’ll be masses of pop, disco, lashings of top 40s, a splash of indie, the odd retro hit from the 80s, and as the clock ticks and it gets later plenty of dance hits.” The fun and frolic’s kicks off at 8pm with a Happy hour till 9.30 (lesbians must have different time to me cause that’s an hour and a half, but its drinking time so who cares) If you want to look them up on Facebook just search for ‘Girls Go Down in Liverpool’s gay quarter!’ Well that’s about all for this month, don’t forget to check back next month where i will be spreading what’s going on in Manchester and Liverpool. Who knows I might even throw a little bit about Chester in there too. Remember, if you would like me to attend any of your events just drop me a line – I love a good party, and will happily come to anything. I just don’t like early afternoons as that’s when I take my nap .... Till next month

>>>THE YARD Visit the Yard. Upstairs is a very airy style. Light oak and fresh bright decor abound. It is simple and effective. Once popular with the older crowd (it had the nickname “Graveyard for a while) it is now part of the mainstream, and welcomes all ages. It is next to Switch, and contrasts with the bright and brash in a more mellow mood. There is space to stop and natter, or pop upstairs to Heavens Above for a more lively bop.

3SIXTY The BLAGSS LGBT International 2010 Golf Open
Bandits boys
Snow Snow and More Snow.... Due to the bad weather recently, all football matches were put on hold in December and January. Matches for the FA are now being played as double headers. Now, before you discard your flannelette nightie and skip down to the local park to offer your services on the subs bench, “double header” means that from now on each team will play two games every Sunday with each match lasting just seventy minutes instead of the normal ninety minutes - so not to be confused with any latex paraphernalia.......

The BLAGSS LGBT International 2010 Golf Open will take place at the Singing Hills golf Club on 16th - 18th July 2010, in Brighton. It will comprise of 3 full days of golf, social events and a prize giving on the Sunday. For full details visit website link: www.ukblagssopengolf. btik.com, We hope to have an attendance of approx 80 players plus. BLAGSS Golf Captain Peter Moxom & Vice Captain Ali Hutchins are throwing down the gauntlet to GiGS (Girls in Golf) and Irons Gay Golfing Society (mixed female and male membership) - as well as all the other LGBT golf clubs across the UK and Europe - to compete in this years event. The BLAGGS Golf Group was started 3 years ago by Helen & Viv Woodcock Downey and membership to the golf group has steadily grown to 58 members, both male and female. They currently play at a number of courses in and around the Brighton area and practice on the driving range at Burgess Hill Golf Course twice monthly on a Thursday evening, followed by a few drinks in the local pub. For the more serious players Blagss have a 10 strong team attending the 2010 Cologne Gay Games. In 2008 one of our members achieved gold in their category and we hope to build on that achievement this year. Golf was one of the fastest sports to become fully booked in the Cologne Games; this is a clear signal of how popular the sport is amongst the worldwide LGBT community. The level of play has a wide range from single number handicaps to complete beginners. As a club we are also able to offer a handicap to players without them having to go to the expense of joining a golf club. The handicap is a numerical measure of an amateur golfer’s playing ability based on the tees played for a given course. It is used to calculate a net score from the number of strokes actually played, thus allowing players of different proficiency to play against each other on somewhat equal terms. The higher the handicap of a player, the poorer the player is relative to those with lower handicaps. Everyone in the group is encouraged to improve their handicap, whether complete beginner or serious player. Blagss offer a range of tools for this, all with-in the company of other LGBT members and friends. To accommodate the beginners Viv Woodcock-Downey oversees a novice members game once a month and on these outings (usually 9 holes) Viv will assess the level of play and pass them over to the more accomplished players group or assist in organising lessons for them. Golf is open to everyone and to start we can arrange a loan of golf clubs (or most courses loan them for a small fee). However, if you do want a starter set of clubs and golf shoes you can kit yourself out for under £100.00. Golf is not a cheap sport, but we hope to accommodate all budgets so no one is excluded. In order to take part in any of the BLAGSS sports on a regular basis you must become a BLAGSS member. We regularly update the BLAGSS website with up and coming events so check us out at www.blagss.org and click golf

Soul II Soul’s Victoria Wilson-James - Pool Party Tignes
The European Gay Ski Week The European Gay Ski Week will take place again this year from the 20th -27th March. Last year over 800 people attended making it one of the biggest LGBT ski events of 2009. This years event will be held in Tignes, a district comprising of five Alpine villages situated around the Barrage de Tignes Dam in the Rhone-Alpes region of south-eastern France. Whether you are a slalom medallist or a newbie ski bunny everybody is catered for. There are free daily guided groups for the serious skiers and boarders, and for those not quite ready for the piste, they offer their own Ski School with skiing and boarding lessons for people of all abilities. It’s not all about skiing and boarding though. The entertainment is there to satiate even the hungriest of appetites. Even before you are off the slopes DJ’s will be spinning. Last year the clubs in the town were taken over with a glittering array of nights hosted by the cream of Europe’s gay clubs including Trade and Salvation from London and pool parties featuring DJ Steve Redant (La Demence in Belgium) and Steve Thomas & Lady B (Afterlife, Texas) who kept the partying going through to the small hours. One of the highlights of the week was a mountain top performance by Soul II Soul’s Victoria Wilson-James along with her dancers on the terrace at Le Boulin. www.europeangayskiweek.com
