and

2012 has been a whirlwind so far for charitable social events in Northwest Arkansas. Kicking things off in January, 3W Magazine hosted its annual party to donate $3,000 to the Samaritan Community Center. February was a busy month with guests donning their best masks at Walton Arts Center’s Masquerade Ball. That same month, we saw some of the best auction items of the year at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School’s Tapas and Tinis event. The Jackson L. Graves Foundation’s unique chocolate tasting event, Ooh La La!, was a sold out affair. Wine novices and wine enthusiasts alike got together at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s NWA Wine Opener to sip, savor and discover new wines. The month wrapped up with the Arts Center of the Ozarks’ Beach Ball—a casual event for the region’s longest running arts center.

March got off to a great start with the inaugural Northwest Arkansas Fashion Week—fashion for philanthropy was a huge success, becoming one of the most talked about events this year. Rascal Flatts stopped by the John Q. Hammons Center to entertain guests at the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter Starlight Gala, which raised more than $435,000. A few weeks later, the Shelter also hosted the Hershey Easter Egg Hunt, which saw a record attendance on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. A few of Northwest Arkansas’ biggest stars hit the dance floor for the fifth annual Northwest Arkansas Children’s Museum’s Dancing with the Stars event with Andrea Thomas, Senior Vice President of Sustainability for Walmart, taking home the top prize.

Later that same week, local art was up for grabs at the Walnut Farm Montessori School’s Art Experience. Also that month, the Boys & Girls Club of Benton County celebrated its mission at the Great Futures Gala, guests lit up the night at Ozark Natural Science Center’s Call of the Wild, while Restore Humanity hosted a rare Sunday night affair—the organization’s annual Wine Dinner at Bordinos.

Saving Grace ushered in the month of May with its Butterflies & Blooms Luncheon. May 5 was one of the busiest days in NWA with seven events. Event highlights included the Northwest Arkansas Naturals sporting teal jerseys for Ozark Guidance’s Teal in the Park, supporters of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation donned their favorite hats for the Run for the Roses, 3 Penny Acre entertained guests at the Sunshine Gala for Benton County Sunshine School, and supporters of Heather Ridley Fleeman Battle for Hope helped crush colon cancer at the Old Tiger Stadium in Bentonville.

To close out the busy spring season, Open Avenues hosted its signature event—Spring Fling, a two-day golf tournament that ended with a festive luau. As the summer heats up, so will the events in Northwest Arkansas. We can’t wait for the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship (June 25 to July 1) at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers! The place to see and be seen during this year’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship (June 25-July 1 at Pinnacle Country Club) is at the Malibu Party Pad. Located on the 17th green, this party deck offers great views of the course and a chance to see the players up close and personal. You won’t see any golf claps here— guests are encouraged to root for their favorite players. In fact, calling the Hogs is required when Arkansas’ own Stacy Lewis comes down the fairway. What’s a party without delicious drinks? Malibu serves up the some of the best beverages at the tournament. Partiers can also fill up on great food and keep up with the action on the rest of the course on the Party Pad’s flat screens.

Big Cedar Brunch If you find yourself with a Sunday to spare, head to Big Cedar Lodge in Branson for a fabulous Champagne Sunday Brunch at the Worman House. Big Cedar Lodge is known for being a great weekend retreat for when you want to escape at a moments notice, but as we all know, sometimes life doesn’t allow much time to get away. Craving a little daytrip, we decided to take a leisurely Sunday drive through the beautiful Ozark Mountains with our sites set on Big Cedar. A former country retreat turned quaint restaurant, Worman House at Big Cedar Lodge is the perfect place to sit for a few hours and enjoy gorgeous views of scenic Table Rock Lake. Each Sunday, the restaurant hosts the resort’s fabulous Champagne Sunday Brunch complete with live entertainment, great food and of course some bubbly to boot. Brunch offers an amazing buffet with a variety of options. Breakfast and lunch entrees, made-toorder omelets, freshly carved meats and mouthwatering desserts were all up for grabs and kept fresh throughout the morning for guests. We tried to pace ourselves, but with so many great choices, a few trips to the buffet were made to ensure a taste of all the delicious dishes. Of course no brunch is complete without a beverage or two. We started with a round of mimosas and never stopped sipping throughout our two hours at Big Cedar—thanks to the attentive staff who made sure to keep our glasses full. Next we opted for a Bloody Mary, made to order from the Bloody Mary bar. Before we knew it, two hours had gone by. Our bellies were full and our mimosas still full—a sign of a great brunch. 14
