1
Topic Introduction
The title CITXPLORER combines two words, “CITY” & “EXPLORER”, referring to those who want to explore the city in a more delicate way, experiencing the in-deep culture by positioning themselves into every corner that full of stories.
2
Aim and Objectives
The aim of this project is to design a speciďŹ ed tour sight seeing system for public bike travelers, enhancing the travel efďŹ ciency as well as the understanding of the city. The main research target is Barclays Cycle Hire system, as well as the research region is Greater London.
The mayor’s vision for cycling in London: -A Tube network for the bike. -Safer streets for the bike. -More people travelling by bike. -Better places for everyone.
400%
Barclays Cycle Superhighways are also continuing to develop, and London is broadly on target to achieve the Mayor’s aim of a 400 per cent increase in cycling by 2026.

Case studies
Navigation App: BikeCityGuide Designed for cyclists – by cyclists. Combined knowledge that’s accessible anywhere, anytime, helps users to find the best way and to discover the flair of the whole city.
Cycling GPS: Garmin Garmin was the first to bring GPS to the cycling computer market — the first to let cyclists put their ride on the map and record detailed metrics with the accuracy only GPS can deliver.
The RECON JET: Google glass for cyclists The Recon Jet is a Google-Glass-styled heads up display for cyclists who aren’t satisfied until they’ve upgraded every imaginable accessory they own.
Toured by homeless: Unseen Tours Inspired by The Sock Mob, a volunteer network engaging with London’s homeless, the Unseen Tours bring user an entertaining and poignant walk with professionally coached homeless guides, offering user historical but also unexplored glimpses of the city, as perceived through the lens of homelessness. Uniquely, the tours interweave homeless guides’ own stories and experiences, introducing a new social consciousness into commercial walking tours.

Intermediate Results/Findings
Words from survey --- Question: How safe do you feel? I feel safe but there’s nothing you can do about potential idiot drivers. I feel everyone on 2 wheels in London is inherently unsafe.
There are some proper bastards out there
Drivers don't seem to realise how vulnerable cyclists are
safe, but only because I am careful
as soon as you feel safe, you'll be in trouble
riding regularly its not a question of if but when you will be involved in an accident. all you can do is minimise risk as much as possible. If car drivers/coach drivers and taxi drivers were more observant and/or considerate I'd feel very safe.
its not true that a cyclist is totally safe, even the most street wise ones I ride defensively, trying to anticipate problems, so *usually* feel in control of the situation
Getting more dangerous thanks to other rubbish cyclists. I'm a decent rider. Drivers, peds, other cyclists are the problem!!!!
Question: How would you improve cycling in London? manhole covers/grids with asphalt on for grip, and level with the road surface reduce speed limits, remove cycle lanes,
I'd ban lorries from entering the central zone.
create more incentives for more people to cycle. larger and more comprehensive cycle lanes.
there are special TV ads for motorbikers, why not us?
Decrease HGV presence.
Get more kids on bikes - more cycling to school
Reduce/Remove lorries in central london. THE most important matter in cycling in London right now.
Helmets save lives, worth making more people aware of that for sure.
safer places to lock your bike where there is security.
more cycle lanes
No HGVs and more facilities for Cycle Sport in General.
change drivers (the general public's) attitude and awareness of cyclists
Education, Education, Education (drivers and cyclists). Stop passing laws like allowing cyclists to go the wrong way up 1 way streets. It causes resentment. proper cycling lanes. safe places to keep the bike like mini sheds (some stations have these).
Scary trail from King's Cross to Hyde Park
So the crucial question: What would it take for you to start cycling? bike lanes and good weather.
more 20 mph area
A radical change in the way London roads are designed that give cyclists much more space away from buses and motorbikes in particular
For a scheme to be introduced that is proven to be safe, with a big, deďŹ ned enough cycle lane like in Amsterdam! I cycled in Amsterdam and the roads felt more safe in general and I had an overall sense that the other drivers were more sensitive to cyclists.
again its a safety issue motorist's have no respect. also better storage in and around home and work No lorries in central London and fools like Boris away from the strings that control it. a guaranteed that my bike will not get stolen and that drivers would pay more attention to bikers Nothing could make me cycle on London roads. Other cyclists are often rude and aggressive, most have no road sense / road safety training. It's hot, sweaty, dangerous and time consuming.
Safer roads and a fashionable helmet!
A safe stylish helmet, some safe cycling lanes, a good raincoat and some courage.

Expected Final Results/Findings Have enough data to support my concept in the safety issue, interface accessibility and ďŹ nd out which kind of tour information that tourists would like to know.
8
Next steps
Find out what source shoud I take as my travel database, and use them to build up a visual prototype to adjust the whole concept.
