44 DEGREES is an online magazine dedicated to the promotion of contemporary Israeli artists. The magazine showcases various artists such as digital media artists, painters, sculptors, and curators, with each issue focusing on a different theme. Artists showcased in the magazine may be contacted via the URL posted. The magazine may be viewed in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem information archive room and in Tel Aviv Museum Library. 44 DEGREES online art Magazine was founded in 2013 by the artist TAMMY MIKE LAUFER

Tammy Mike Laufer lives and works in Israel. She is an international contemporary artist and art director. She is graduate from the extension of the "Technion" Israel Institute for Technology in the department of Graphic Design, and continuing education program for designers at Sivan College Tel Aviv. She has been engaged with Digital Media for two decades. Tammy Mike Laufer's digital media art were exhibited in Museums, Art projects in places such as Italy (53 Venice Biennale) Greece, Japan, the US, Portugal, Lithuania, Warsaw, Israel and more.

ANAT BEN EZRA I was attracted to art as a child, a desire for creation coming from the heart, a sense of satisfaction. Sculpture. This is my life in the past decade. Various techniques and various materials, concrete castings, polyester. Now I focus on casting in bronze - bronze gives the sculpture eternal life. My works are in a modern classic style and a realistic approach; through sculpture I express my inner and emotional world. My sculptures tell a story about the world and the power of a woman ... her movements ... her expressions and feelings. The fusion with nature. My uniqueness is something that I draw from a profound depth. I always sculpt the same woman's face. Various plots about one woman. In every sculpture I leave something of my life, moments of magic, coping, warmth. Dance, passion, relationships, family and power. TAMAR ISTRIN I was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel. I am an artist who creates sculptures out of scenes from life. I create the sculptures in clay and then cast them in bronze. My sculptures focus on human portrait, with emphasis on facial expressions. The inspiration for my wrinkled face sculptures, I get out of my meetings with a very mature audience in my work. In my sculptures, there is an expression of respect for the human and especially for old age. HAGIT BUCHWALTER From an early age, art has been an inseparable part of my life. I have experimented with Different creative media using a variety of techniques. A multidisciplinary artist, I paint with oils and sculpt with a variety of materials. For several years now, I have been sculpting with wire mesh and iron wire. I create figurative art that is not necessarily realistic but a product of a personal expressive interpretation which enables the image to be identified. LILY DAVID "Homage to Dad" 2016 Your sculptures around the house remind you in addition to a million little things which I remember and I miss you. Tingling in fingers, the familiar feeling artists feel before they go into battle and try to transform the imagination into reality, flood me during last recent months. I usually sculpt drawings. This time I decided as a courtesy to you to paint a sculpture. "Not Alone …" 2016 The solitude of "Homage to Dad" gave birth to "Not Alone…". I felt that a lonesome sculpture was not enough and as Good created Eve from Adam's rib …"Not Alone" sculpture was born. "The Wiz" 2017 Once created, I joined the two other piers "Homage to Dad" and "Not Alone…". During the creation process, new shapes and essence were poured in my soul and I learned that I become "The Teacher". I bring a different nuance to the assembly enabling the dialog between the three. YAEL SAPIR The Main Idea - The Ornamented Leaf The main idea in my work is ש connection between nature, textile, and culture. It combines my own worlds - the rich landscape that surrounds me on the mountains of West Galilee, my expertise in the textile industry and textile, and my Hungarian descent. This nature-textile-culture composition isn’t a trivial one. And yet, it generates a sense of awe and enables contemplation and observation at an object - the leaf. An object that, while abundant in nature, is reincarnated by connecting it to other materials. I want to inspire and honor the time to observe. FRANCOISE CHEMOUNI I was born in Paris, my first love. A central theme in my work is the essence of femininity. In my photographs of women, I focus on the mystery of shyness and eroticism which fascinates me. In making photographs of human beings I search for authenticity and what is their most natural aspect. While finalizing portraits and other photographs I use the high key and low key editing method because it enables me to express purity and the essence of femininity which I aspire to show with my pictures. IFAT ZOHAR I am 47 years old Israeli photographer living and working at the Netherlands. Eight years ago I left a longtime career at the Israeli politics corridors and replaced them with the Dutch green fields. My specialty is Equine photography and my work concentrates in catching special soundless moments with horses, trying to let my audience feel the wordless moment that I have experienced while photographing this graceful animal. TAMMY MIKE LAUFER My works are similar to mental puzzles, where you can travel from one point to another by analyzing a picture’s symbolic objects. There is always something for the observer to discover. I never force my vision or push my philosophical opinion on the viewers each and every one, can give theirs philosophy to my creation. My art is surreal reality, all in my head. The viewer take a journey to places just as real as those you might find in this reality. When I start working on a new scene, it's like enter to a fantasy dream. like starting your new only virtual world. “Everything is possible” and in the majority of my works I am trying to combine visual realities, with subconscious emotions and philosophical thoughts. JOZSEF RAZ A digital artist photographer. Visual graphic design and history of art graduate. On the way from the analog world to the digital world , I went from using direct contact of the materials such as : celluloid , steel , wood , glass and canvas to the digital world where I collect all the materials for my work using the camera and the scanner . The computer's mouse is my main tool to draw and scalp my work of art . GABRIELA GLEIZER I am 27 years old and based in Jerusalem, Israel. I study for a BFA degree at Bezalel - Academy of Arts & Design, in Jerusalem, finishing my last year of studies. I am interested in Portrait & Documentary Photography, social and cultural matters, always feeling intrigued by human relationships between them selfs and between their fisical enviroment. For my images I use a Mamiya C330 camera (Medium format, 6*6) and Kodak color film. About the series: "Through The Stations" is an annual project which documents people, by a journey through the different stations of The Light Train in Jerusalem, which is one of the main transportation methods in the city, passing through religious and non - religious jewish and arab neighborhoods. The project aims to explore and analyze the different cultures, religions and ethnic differences to which people belong and try to understand in this way the complexity and diversity in the society of Jerusalem, which includes Israeli- born citizens, immigrants, jewish/muslim/christian people and more. YNIN SHILLO I am a multidisciplinary conceptual artist. I create from the experiences of my life and from the ongoing exploration of being, preoccupied with the present and in the constant movement of life and time. MIRI ADMONI In the south of Israel, the Negev desert, you can find my home and studio of glass art and design works. EINAT SHTECKLER Whilst capturing my environmental installations with photography, my projects are meant to remind us of our individual responsibilities to pick up pieces of trash and, at the same time, stimulate and raise awareness of the impact of our rampant consumption. Whilst placing and inserting plastic bottles into unpolluted areas, often using locations that inspire me and constitute a personal interest, I create ecological statements regarding the disposal and damage of plastic waste; doing so hope to activate our self-awareness of the damage to our natural environment. "Disaster" is a startling and powerful message for the times. MICHAL BIBER As a painter, my greatest fascination and strength is in looking, making everyday moments and places become magical and enticing. I see the same buildings and trees day after day, but all of a sudden I notice a something, cascading light or the movement of leaves, which I express in a colorful dance of intense brush strokes. Much like Rothko, in his Subway series, I use the tools of light and the tension between figurative painting and abstraction, to depict moments that seem banal, but actually form lively scenes of light, color, perspective and figures. My two recent bodies of work, explore the inside of my studio and my apartment, and present mysterious and alluring moments reminiscent of Film Noir. ILANA DOTAN In a world where we are flooded with emotionally and noisy images and information, we fail to recognize the banal representations of human capability: synthetic objects surrounding us, such as wrappings, plastic bags… serving us daily. We all use these objects every day, rarely stopping to consider the creativity that went into developing them, the history behind them or the accumulating impact of using them. These background objects draw my attention, especially when they acquire unique identity by being affected or acted on by outside forces. The transformed industrial, cloned object, illustrates how in some aspects, we become different and unique through external forces that wear and bend us. Describing these objects also allow a “peek behind the scene” in the human luxury and comfortable living, and the lengths to which we are willing to go to find them. I’m illustrating the hidden beauty, complexity and exclusiveness of these objects by using the simplest means. The realistic drawing allows deep exploration and appreciation of these items which seem so simple and unremarkable.

YAEL DOR PERETZ My work is influenced by a reflection of reality through media database and journalism, allowing me to examine different aspects of human behavior. This series of paintings explores the nature between man to man and humankind towards animals. The relationship allows me to deal with questions, of what is considered moral, and who has the authority to make that determination. Is this a question of inner awareness or conventional social behavior? The contrast between the exhibit and its representation, changes our perception of the object (subject) which causes a blurred reality and arouses a disturbing awareness. RACHELLE GOLDREICH For as long as I can remember I’ve created some kind of art. I’m inspired by the beauty that I see in the surroundings where I live, the changing light and shadows that influence the colours and mood of the scene. I am moved by the wonder that such a scene evokes in me; the feeling of pleasure and joy or tranquility it gives me. Most of my work has been landscapes, done here in Israel and in Italy. Lately I’ve been drawn towards painting people, trying to capture the interaction between a person and the surroundings. I work mainly in oils, often Plein Air, and sometimes finished in the studio. The recent paintings with people have been done with the help of photographs I’ve taken, The magic happens when I let the almost finished work tell me what needs to be done to transform the image from a copy of something into a work which stands on it’s own merits. I’m continuously searching for ways to portray my vision with integrity without falling into the traps of method or mannerisms. My wish is to be able to create art which makes people smile, relax, perhaps even a few moments of healing. OSNAT BEN SHALOM REISMAN I'm an artist from Kibbutz Giv'at Haim Meuchad. for 30 years I was teaching, educaring and forming art in the arts institute of Giv'at Haviva. I was the treasurer of the Peace Gallery in Giv'at Haviva. I am an active artist and continuing to teach and lecture in several forms up to today. My paintings are in the technique of oil on canvas.The images in my paintings derive from the kibbutz' environment in which I live. I am bound to the place and to my home. Thus is natual for me to make the connection. The painting is based on my personal photo albums and photographs that I take with my camera. The images I used change and vary their forms like clay in the hand of the artist. Color is the starting point of me creative work. I think in color, I imagine many things through color. MEGI ROME In hard times I've gone through in the past, I drew a soul-mate, a friend which was a flying piano. I hold its wings and together we flew and jumped over crises, one by another until we reached a safe seashore. In really hard times I asked him to help me choose between the life and the death and my flying piano did it and if I chose the right decision, let my life be meaningful not just for me but for as many people as possible. ETTI AMRAM I am an artist from Kibbutz Dalia Israel. I served for 20 years as director of the Arts Center and curator of the Shalom Gallery in Givat Haviva, and throughout the years I continued to paint and sketch, my instrument for artistic expression. In recent years, the platform I have been creating has been iron. On the face of it, this is strong and durable material, but in fact rust is the weak point for me. The importance and vitality of iron in reality is the functioning of the body, as it leads oxygen to the heart and allows life. For me it is a significant means of expression, which symbolizes physical and mental strength, but it has great vulnerability and sensitivity, power and weakness are open questions for me as well. Rust stains (deliberately created) are the creation of an organic process of diffusion, diffusion and leakage. My art continues or opposes it. In my works I can see several images, deer, bird and man, who have been accompanying me over the years. "The deer of Israel on your feet is a void" is a verse from David's lament that mourns the glory of Israel and its heroes who became the victims of the war. The deer for me retreated, tired and in perpetual flight, and wanted to rest. The bird stops for a moment and descends to the earth to see if the water has been wiped off the face of the earth? I refrain from dealing with the lightness of the deer's movement or the freedom of the bird in flight, but in dealing with the existential fear and the danger that lies ahead amram.etti@gmail.com

SHAUL BAZ As a child I was fascinated with the human image and I made portrait drawings of my school friends, today as well people are the main subject in my paintings and sculptures. The canvas for me is a surface where I can create a reflection of the world in which to research the human condition. observing and painting, together with the element of research are also ritual and a space of love, of getting closer and understanding. MARLEN ISMALON The figurative is a sculptural feast, especially when put on the two dimensionality of a canvas. I'm obsessed with the human figure with all its curves, angles and movements. Through this movement, I seek to express a search and a yearning for the most simple, pure and profound truth. Nature is always there too, archaic and powerful. Roots, twigs, branches, intertwining and separating, dig into the soil and back into the human form. Some years ago, I worked as a massage therapist. This experience was a great help for me since I can "feel" the body from within. I paint only from "inner" imagery. YONA LEVY GROSMAN I live in the Negev desert. Where the dry Loess soil raises dust most of the year. With the first rains of winter, the desert turns green. Then, the green colors are followed by red, yellow and white sections of the landscape. Rugs of joy for the birth of a new life when the seeds meet the wet earth.

POLINA KANEVSKY “Avoidance” is a series of drawings on A5 paper, which serves as an ongoing visual diary of an individual journey towards growth and development. Each day a new drawing is created, as an attempt to reflect upon avoidance mechanisms, hidden sources of anxiety and other issues that interfere with personal growth, all the while discovering more dark corners of what makes us human and finding comfort within those corners.
