Dank der Zusatzpower des E-Antriebs gelange ich schnell und entspannt zu Meetings und Verabredungen. Auch bei 35 Grad Außentemperatur. Saigon is an unfamiliar world; a totally foreign culture. My loyal companion for the next six months is a Reaction Hybrid bike – a bold statement on the Vietnamese capital‘s streets, which are heaving with twostroke machines. Thanks to the power boost of the e-drive I can get to meetings and appointments quickly but without putting in too much effort – vital when the temperature outside is 35°.

gear change Vorteile des 1x Antriebs The benefits of 1x drivetrains Moderne Schaltgruppen zeichnen sich durch das Fehlen eines Umwerfers bei gleichzeitiger Erweiterung der Kassettenbandbreite aus. Die Vorteile liegen ganz klar auf der Hand: Der Schaltaufwand reduziert sich immens, wodurch auch die Bedienung erleichtert wird, da einer der Schalthebel am Cockpit entfällt. Dies führt nicht nur zu einer intuitiven Bedienlogik, sondern verhilft der Lenkzentrale auch zu einer aufgeräumten Optik. Aber auch hinsichtlich Verschleiß weist der 1x Antrieb gegenüber herkömmlichen 2x oder 3x Schaltungen deutliche Vorteile auf. Speziell bei E-Bikes ist die Kette aufgrund der erhöhten Kraft eine stark beanspruchte Komponente. Durch das Fehlen des Umwerfers, der bei Schaltvorgängen die Kette besonders stark belastet, erhöht sich folglich nicht nur die Lebensdauer des gesamten Antriebsstrangs, sondern werden zusätzlich auch noch Gewicht gespart und Fehlerquellen minimiert. State-of-the-art groupsets differ from their 2x and 3x predecessors in that the front derailleur has been eliminated and the rear cassette has a wider gear range. The move to 1x drivetrains has clear advantages: They are easier to use thanks to having only one shift lever on the handlebars, and the number of gear shifts required is reduced massively. As a result, not only does shifting become more intuitive, but the cockpit benefits from a much cleaner look. Even wear and tear on the 1x transmission is substantially reduced compared to conventional 2x and 3x drivetrains. E-bikes in particular put extra load on the chain due to the increased amount of power being transferred. By getting rid of the front derailleur, which exerts particular pressure on the chain during gear shifts, the life of the entire drivetrain is extended – in addition to saving weight and minimising potential faults.
