Dear Tiger Family, Just one short year ago, I hit submit on an application that would bless my life more ways than I could ever imagine. This special town greeted us with warm and open arms to help make Gunter home, not just for me, but for my family as a whole. Gunter is a community that strives and thrives to be the best at everything. From welcoming new community members to making run after run at State events, Gunter works hard and leaves an impression. Over this past school year, Gunter has shown me over and over what it means to be a Tiger. Tigers don’t just look out for themselves, they look out for each other and the greater good, ensuring that our integrity makes us stand tall above the rest. Tigers welcome Tigers Fish Camp, Meet the Teacher Tigers cheer on Tigers Meet the Tiger, Homecoming Parade, Community Tailgate/Pep Rally, Broadcasting by CJ Sports, Horn and Tunnel Crew, BEST STUDENT SECTIONS EVER Tigers rally around Tigers Giving Hope Walk for Stacia Graves Tigers help Tigers Student Organizations working Special Olympics Tigers support Tigers GIFT Gala, GIFT Grants, Bond Election Tigers appreciate Tigers Teacher Appreciations shown by PTO, GIFT, and local businesses, Graduation Roses Tigers brag on Tigers Shelli Neely, Renee and Camden Marler of Our Gunter, Marion Cole, Laci Bracewell, Q Layman Tigers look up to Tigers Youth Nights, High School Organizations serving at the Elementary Tigers feed Tigers Team Dinners Tigers celebrate Tigers Graduation, Scholarships and Award Ceremonies

All of these moments (and any that I missed) create a culture like none other. It is, and will continue to be, a GREAT day to be a TIGER! It is with the help and support of our amazing community that our students, in this culture, have been able to obtain the successes that are celebrated over the following pages. These awards were earned through hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. To the students of Gunter ISD, continue to define what being a TIGER means to you. Scott Martindale, Gunter ISD Superintendent

Valedictorian Tegan swinfen

Tegan Swinfen is leaving such a profound legacy here at Gunter High School. With her involvement in a wide variety of clubs and organizations, her schedule was never empty. During her time here in Gunter, she has paved the way for many Tigers. Her work ethic and dedication to her studies leaves no surprise as to why she’s been as successful as she has been. She is committed to doing her very best, both inside and outside the classroom. Tegan has set such high expectations for herself and has far exceeded all of them. She is the prime example of what it truly means to be a Gunter Tiger. Following graduation, Tegan plans on attending the University of Texas in Austin. We wish you nothing but the very best, Tegan! Congratulations!

Salutatorian Audrey Curtis

Audrey Curtis has been a remarkable member of our Gunter Tiger family. Her successes speak for themselves. With each new challenge she’s faced, she has taken the opportunity to allow that challenge to grow her character in countless ways. It’s rare to see a Senior join the tennis team but that just shows you how much of a rare jewel Audrey is. Whatever she puts her mind to, she not only does it but she does it well. She strives for excellence in every capacity of her life. With her quick wit, quiet charm and inquisitive mind - she is well on her way to becoming a game-changer in every room she walks into. She is headed to the University of Florida to major in Kinesiology in the Fall. Audrey, the best is yet to come! Congratulations!

GHS Teacher of the Year Chonté Reeves

You can walk into her classroom at any part of the day and she will be working with her students. Chonte Reeves is the epitome of a dynamic educator. Ms. Reeves goes above and beyond for each and every one of her kids. She holds them accountable but also holds their hearts. She delivers instruction masterfully and is an expert within her content and craft. Students who leave Ms. Reeves’ classroom know that they will be taught well but also loved well. She is so gifted at bringing creative ideas and activities to her classroom that engage students at all learning levels. No matter how challenging the day is, Ms. Reeves always has a smile on her face and is excited to be teaching Math. We are so blessed and honored to have her on our campus and in our GHS family. She truly is the best and we are better because of her. Congratulations to our Math Queen, Ms. Reeves, for being our Teacher of the Year!

GMS Teacher of the Year Justin McDaniel Each teacher of the year nomination form summarizes why Justin McDaniel represents the very best of Gunter Middle School. Each colleague wrote: “you want Justin McDaniel teaching (coaching) your kids.” Mr. McDaniel, or “Coach Mac”, has made an incredible impact on Gunter ISD since coming on board in 2018. Coach Mac joined us along with his wife Hallie, son Braeden (8th), and daughter Landri (7th). Coach Mac currently teaches 7th grade science, coaches football and track, and serves as Head Wrestling coach. To say that Coach MacDaniel puts in the work is an understatement. However, it is not about the time but the amount of influence Coach Mac exudes upon his students. I knew Coach Mac had made “corner turning” differences in the lives of our athletes, but from the day he set up “class” at GMS, he made a difference with the relationships he built with colleagues by inquiring about his class list and looking to meets students’ needs before they ever walked in the classroom. Coach Mac...while his booming voice and hulking appearance may bring fear to some, his athletes and students know the real man behind the intimidating facade. He is tough but genuinely cares about his students. As a colleague, I can see the difference he is making with his science students...they LOVE his class and enjoy their learning! He might be the best listener I’ve ever met. And… from the parent-side, he has more faith in my kid than most ever have. My kid is different since she has been under his tutelage. Mr. Martindale challenged the entire GISD faculty “to be the difference” in the lives of others this school year. For Justin McDaniel, Mr. Martindale could have said “be yourself.” Teachers like Coach Mac challenge, promote, and inspire. For these reasons and many more, Justin McDaniel is our Gunter Middle School Teacher of the Year.

GES Teacher of the Year

Karen Cooke

“Every teacher deserves a champion, an adult who never gives up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.” -Rita Pierson

Each year our teacher of the year is selected by their peers to receive this honor. Our teacher of the year this year has always been a champion for her students. She never gives up on them and pours her heart into the students in her classroom. These are some of the many wonderful things her peers had to say about her: “She is one of the most genuine people I’ve ever known. She loves her kindergarteners fiercely and goes above and beyond to meet their needs. She is the definition of a team player. She is always willing to step up and help out without hesitation. She is a positive light on our campus, and I am so thankful to know her.” “This teacher is very kind-hearted and dedicated to her students. Anytime you see her she is smiling and has a love and passion for teaching!” “Everyday this teacher shows up with a smile on her face. She is wonderful to work with, meets the needs of ALL her students, and truly has a giver’s heart.” “A truly kind soul, she always sees the positive in every situation. She lives by the rule if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything.” “This teacher has been a consistent and dedicated team member for the entire time that I’ve been in Kindergarten. If she says she will do something, you can count on her doing it - and usually way ahead of schedule! She aims to be a friend to all and to remain positive in her dealings with others. She is always prepared and truly cares about her kids.” “I appreciate the positive attitude she possesses no matter the circumstance.” “I can’t recall ever hearing her say something negative about a student, parent, or coworker. No doubt this attitude impacts her students, helping them to see the good in others and build a positive self esteem.” As you can see by all of these amazing comments this teacher has the respect and admiration of her peers and her students. She sets an amazing example for everyone on the campus and has truly made an impact on our GES family. She is retiring at the end of this school year and her absence will forever be felt on our campus, but her lasting legacy will remain. We will miss our Little Miss Sunshine next year, and it is my honor and privilege to announce our 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year - Mrs. Karen Cooke.
