Student Voices Written by CHS Ambassadors Kiley Rojas “At the end of the day it’s not about what you’ve accomplished… it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.”

what I could say, but felt that a quote by Denzel Washington summed it up very nicely. This time of year is not meant to be about receiving or feeling fulfilled by gifts, it’s meant to give to others. Whether through kinda acts, encouraging words, or through gifts. To me that’s what makes November and December a special time, people are giving all around. I am extremely grateful to be surrounded by people who choose to give not only during this part of the year, but all year. I am especially grateful to live in Celina. Despite the rapid growth, the small town feeling and support of the community has yet to diminish. As an ambassador, I feel extremely privileged to be in a position where I can not only give back to my district, but the community of Celina. I hope to set the path for the ambassadors that follow and create a new way for students to give back to their district and city.
I love this time of year, not just because it’s the season of giving, but because it is a time of coming together. Not only community. Having lived here since second grade, this community is very important to me, so I am grateful for the chance to give back to the community through the school’s ambassador program. I am thankful for the fact that my fellow ambassadors share this sentiment, and are all enjoying involving ourselves with local businesses to further strengthen the bonds of this city.
Mekdes Woldesunbet We often think of giving in terms of money and one's ability to give a certain amount. But the act of giving means so much more. It means time, attention, compassion, presence, wisdom, and a multitude of other things. In the chaos of life, it is easy to get caught up in less meaningful actions and situations. Because everything and everyone is so fast-paced, the simple act of giving becomes a relay to when we can be receiving. However, this season of giving to my fellow

events and opportunities to make an impact during the holiday season, and I think that this is incredible. Through the Ambassador program, we have been able to think of a lot of different ways to give back to our community. For example, we will be running a toy drive later this year for kids in need. This is perfect for the holidays and a great way to get students involved with their school and other communities. I am excited to show Celina what all the Ambassadors can accomplish!
Ben Hamilton Everyone knows that this time of year is all about giving, and the wonderful people of Celina are some of the most thoughtful and generous in the state of Texas. Whether you are giving your time to help those in need, or small acts of kindness to a neighbor both have a larger impact than most people would think and I think it’s amazing to see everyone come together as they do each and every year. With this being said, I think the gift of spending time with loved ones is

Martin Engelbert We would like to take a moment and honor Celina's first paid Fire Chief of
the Celina Fire Department and the facilities manager for the City of Celina, Martin Engelbert.
His courageous battle against cancer came to a close earlier this month.
Our thoughts are prayers go out to his wife Kelly and his family during
this difficult time. We are forever grateful for his dedicated service to

As construction continues on the new Celina Middle School, messages of faith, family, and tradition will help strengthen its foundation. The district held a beam signing event Sept. 20, allowing guests to leave their mark on district history. Superintendent Dr. Tom Maglisceau kicked off the ceremony introducing the Board of Trustees, city officials, project architects, construction managers, and more. Board President Kelly Juergens then reminded guests about the 2019 bond that made this new campus possible. He also thanked the community for overwhelmingly passing the bond election and for their continued support. Inviting guests to sign one of the support columns by the front entrance of the building, Dr. Maglisceau explained, “Whatever you would like to put on this column, while it will eventually be covered with sheet rock, will signify another layer of protection for our children.” The special event concluded with a tour of the construction site, as well as commemorative cookies. CISD’s much-anticipated new middle school will open its doors for the 2022-23 school year. The campus will feature innovative learning spaces, interactive technology, and state-of-the-art facilities for athletics and fine arts. It will have a capacity of 1,500 students and will replace the existing middle school.

CHS Senior Sings National Anthem at State Law Enforcement Conference CHS Senior Erin Merritt was asked to sing the National Anthem during the State Law Enforcement Conference for the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, also known as CLEAT. The original singers were unable to travel from Nashville to Dallas due to COVID. Erin’s father, who currently serves as a Sergeant for the Frisco Police Department was contacted by a member of the organization asking him if he knew of anyone who would be able to fill in at the last minute. Luckily, Sgt. Merritt knew exactly who to ask...his daughter Erin who is a senior member of the CHS Chamber Choir. He spoke with his daughter to inquire if she would be interested and her response was an immediate “Yes!” She was asked to sing to open the Closing ceremony for the convention. Immediately after her performance, she was asked
to stay and sing at the Gala and Silent Auction scheduled for that evening. The day’s events were attended by Governor Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and George P.Bush, as well as retired Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman. The organizers paid her for her performances, but she was also given 2 tickets to see Harry Styles at the AA Center after she finished singing at the Gala that evening! CLEAT is the founding sponsor of “The Peace Officer’s Memorial Foundation”, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that strives to perpetuate the memory of Texas law enforcement officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities. The foundation offers college scholarships to children of law enforcement officers across Texas.
CISD Athletic News Congratulations to our very own CHS Girls Head Basketball Coach, Sherry Ollison, who has been selected to serve on the Mavs Academy Coaches Council, (MACC) this year. The council is made up of proven high school basketball head coaches in the DFW Metroplex. It serves as a resource for the Mavs Academy staff to assist in thoughtfully and strategically serving the basketball community. The MACC will also serve as ambassadors for the Mavs Academy in their respective communities and networks. Together, we are dedicated to help foster and cultivate a strong community of boys and girls basketball players, coaches, and officials. The lights have dimmed at Celina's Bobcat Stadium on Pecan after the final Celina ISD game. The Celina Middle School 7th Grade A team beat Melissa 36-8. The final Bobcat touchdown was made by 7th grader #27 Kyler Gonzalez.....and we have It right here! We were also there in 2018 when #7 Noah Ross scored the final Varsity touchdown at Bobcat Stadium. We are so proud to have been able to capture so many moments on this field since 2011 - and we know there are many incredible moments still to come on Bobcat Field on the hill! We have established a Facebook page called "Memories of Old Bobcat Stadium" where Bobcat fans from all over can share their photos and memories of Bobcat Stadium.
