Gunter Superintendent , Dr. Jill Siler, Publishes Book We’re defined by our failures only if we let ourselves be. In today’s stressful climate of education budget shortfalls, ever-evolving academic standards, and widespread cultural transformation, how can educators find the confidence to become the leaders they hope to be? Thrive through the Five helps school leaders navigate that challenging 5 percent of work (and life) when things are really, really hard. The goal of this book is to not just help readers survive through those moments, days, and seasons, but to lead through them and truly thrive. The superintendent of Gunter ISD, a growing school district an hour north of Dallas, Dr. Siler offers a refreshingly honest account of the challenges and pitfalls of leadership. Coupled with her infectious optimism, her wisdom and insight invite educational professionals to take the next best step and move confidently—even through the toughest times. “Thrive through the Five transforms challenges into positive opportunities and achievement. It’s a must-read for school leaders.”—Jon Gordon, New York Times best-selling author of The Energy Bus and The Power of Positive Leadership “In Thrive through the Five, Dr. Siler uses her own experiences and expertise to provide practical, relevant insights into how all school leaders can thrive in those difficult times. This should be required reading for anyone who dares to be a great leader.”—Kevin Brown, EdD, executive director, Texas Association of School Administrators “Thrive through the Five is a great story of one leader’s journey to find a way through the parts of our jobs that don’t always bring us the most joy, but often take up the most time. The quotes will inspire and the process will clearly help you navigate the 5 percent that has such an impact on our world both emotionally and physically as leaders.”—Joe Sanfelippo, PhD, superintendent, Fall Creek School District, and author of Hacking Leadership #ThriveThroughTheFive Order your copy on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/dp/195160038X/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_hsoxFbS3C1QHW

Gunter vs Van Alstyne At tonight’s game in local small town Van Alstyne, the crowds are ready for a game, and Hudson Graham (11) gave it to them! Hudson Graham had an amazing 69-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Sloan (11), a 36-yard touchdown pass to Cade Roller (12), and a 44-yard touchdown pass to Cole Lemons (11). Way to go Tigers! FINAL | 48-7
Gunter vs Pottsboro After their victory last year, the Pottsboro Cardinals were ready to take down the Tigers once again. Both teams were playing to win, but sadly the Cardinals reigned victorious once again. A tough loss for the Tigers, but still a great game filled with great plays, grit and motivation! FINAL | 21-34 Q: What are your hopes for the Football team and the Gunter Tiger Band for the 2020-2021 school year? A:“I would like for the football team to go to state because it is a great experience while I am at the game with my friends. In regards to Band, I am hopeful that we will be able to attend our UIL competition. I am also looking forward to making more memories with my fellow Band friends.” - Aidan McDowell (12) - Loading Crew Captain

City
Connection Thank you!!!! To the Volunteers……… There are many things that make a community great! One of which is volunteerism. Having been your city manager for only a couple of months, I am still amazed at the community pride that Gunter has which in part, manifests itself through the volunteerism in all aspects of the community. As your city manager, I can assure you that I do not take your volunteerism for granted. I am certain the school superintendent feels the same. While there are hundreds of volunteers throughout Gunter serving at every level; sometimes high profile and others who remain more in the background, I will focus this short article on city volunteers – hopefully, I will not leave anyone out. The city of Gunter has numerous volunteers which includes the mayor and city council, the planning and zoning commission, the parks board and the economic development corporation, and the volunteer fire department. There are more than 70 volunteers that support the city operations in one capacity or another. Each member gives of himself/herself to serve, without pay, the city of Gunter. There are numerous meetings, documents to read and often very difficult decisions to make. Our volunteers all have families, spouses, children, jobs, etc. They give of themselves to make Gunter a better place today than yesterday and a better place tomorrow than it is today. As a board member, they are often required to make difficult decisions – decisions that impact the quality of life of each one of you. They do not take this responsibility lightly. They recognize that some decisions that they are asked to make are sometimes very unpopular, yet they remain vigilant in remembering their responsibility and that is to make the best decision possible to the benefit of the community at large. To all the volunteers……I salute you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service to your community. If you are not a volunteer, please consider being one or at the very least, be sure to thank someone who is.
