Jetty Park
Close to Home - Jetty Park, Cape Canaveral
Jetty Park is a 45-acre public park at the east end of Port Canaveral, operated by the Canaveral Port Authority (CPA). It obviously gets its name from the long jetty that runs along and past the end of the park. It is also a good place to watch the ships leave as they pass through the canal and out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Park includes campgrounds, fi shing pier, pristine beach with full-time year-round lifeguards, adjacent public boat ramps, restaurants and other visitor amenities. The park has also become a favorite location to watch rocket launches from nearby Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Any campsite at Jetty Park provides a prime view of the rocket launches. You can get an even better view from Jetty Park’s beach and fi shing pier. If you are planning a trip to Jetty Park to specifi cally watch a launch, you should plan on getting to your site a day before the launch to avoid traffi c and enjoy the area. Crewed launches, milestones, or launches with historic signifi cance will have the largest turnout, resulting in heavy traffi c in the hours before and right after launch. Of course, this is after you make a reservation for your trip. Reservations for parking passes and site spots are a MUST. Jetty Park is one of the most sought-after points of interest in Brevard County. With 45 acres at your fi ngertips there is a variety of activities available. Whether relaxing on the beach or a family reunion at one of the rentable pavilions, Jetty Park has something for everyone. Besides the 4.5-acre family beach with its designated areas for swimming and surfi ng (lifeguards on duty year-round), one of this park’s best-loved features is the 1,200-foot Malcolm E. McLouth Fishing Pier - open from 5 am to 11 pm, paved, lighted, equipped with fi sh-cleaning tables with running water and fully accessible to the physically challenged. Specially designed beach wheelchairs are available and provide access both to the beach and pier. A recently renovated and expanded building on the boardwalk houses an air-conditioned refreshment center and a bait and tackle shop. The beach has a vendor where everything can be rented including chairs, umbrellas, kayaks, paddle boards, boogie boards, etc., so you don’t have to bother with dragging your own cumbersome chairs and umbrellas. Outdoor showers located on the boardwalks are always a welcome sight after a long day on the beach. The beaches have state of the art beach cleaning equipment to keep them in pristine condition for your enjoyment.
