CHARACTER IMAGINARIUM + STORY TITLE OF YOUR STORY WRITED BY SHIN JONG WOO NAME OF YOUR CHARACTER POP-UP STORY Client that I selected Lim Ji-ho is a cook who studying nature cooking. He is good for finding new material and making it to another part of dishes. He learned cooking by going around the whole country. That experience made him master of fusion cook and knowing effect of ingredients. He wake up early and check his kitchen if there are enough ingredients, no outof-date ingredients. The condition of the ingredients is really important for making fresh taste of dishes. So he check all the ingredients sharply. He has no recipe for his cook. He always cooks different dishes depending on his mood. He is good for mixing new ingredients, so his dishes always new. The impressive thing is that he makes dish by breaking jar or decorating anchor. He has no stereotype for using all the things. For this reason, he cooks different way all days. He uses spring flowers or herbs to make scent. In his restaurant, becasue of his celebrity, various kinds of people come to eat his dishes like artist, foreigner, muslim etc. The way of cooking that he doesn’t have sterotype for using the ingredients, his dishes are appropriate for various kinds of people. For the thanks in return the delicious food, sometimes, painter draws his portrait for him, poet composes poem, musician performs some music. He knows well about good effects of herbs, plants, seafood. He learns these information by traveling the whole reigon where there haves diffirent conditions of climate and by meeting various kinds of people and treats his dishes for people who live in the place he visits. In the morning he often goes to mountain outside of his restaurant. He collects variety kinds of plants by himself. He often goes out and comes in because his extempore character. He thinks all the nature can become food. He gets around the whole country to get new ingredients. He tastes ingredients as soon as picking up. He buys ingredient a lot so he needs large space of garage. In his garage, there are stacks of firewood. He makes charcoal by firing the woods and uses for cook. After lunch or dinner time, he rests in his own library where he can see the outside through the wide windows. He observes the vegetable at this time. He sleeps at the empty restaurant. He likes warm floor but cool air while he sleeps. CONCLUSION-PROPOSAL Looking his character and the features of his job, I think cook has something in common with architect. Cook manages all the condition of materials that he uses, mixes these material by his own way, creates the ‘the new thing’, and finally serves to his clients. So the most important space will be the cook’s laboratory where he can cook, store the ingredients, study the taste of his food, . And he is needed for the situation he can get all the ingredients by his recipe, and manage the condition of them. So I can propose the the situation he can grow the ingredients by himself, useful circulation to get each space surrounded by ingredients, useful for organizing his ingredients by his recipe, and useful space he can store his material.

This is small farm with hydroponic system. This system really works growing real vegetables, and also can recycle the water inside. Interior farm is possible with this system, and future city will be filled with kinds of this dome.

Vertical gardening is possible by the hydroponic system. In this project, the glass shaped like bubble grape, can reflvvㅍect and refract the light, I gather the light into the inner side. This shows the possibility that I can use the hydroponic elements.

TESTING MODEL

Harvest Vapor in air Which is the aim...

The indoor space with real plant is really humid. I want to use this condition to make a self sufficient house, and I thought about gathering the vapor in the air. I searched the way gathering vapor and made a model like green house.

Conclusion of your test main conclusions

I searched the reference shows the way how I can get the vapor in the air. There are some ways to get the vapor or harvest the fog. The first one is the spider-web structure. Korea has four season climate, and the temperature is different between day and nignt. And the gap of temperature is more huge in spring, autumn, and winter than summer. Huge gap of temperature during day and night is good condition for water’s evaporation. when the dawn has come, we can see the vapors gathered on the spider web. This idea is used in the place lack of water, They install the net to gather the vapor and they get the water actually by this system. The second way to get the vapor in the air is the principle of getting formed on the insect stenocara’s back surface. It’s surface is filled with the small bump. When the desert’ temperature goes down, hummidity in the air goes up, and then, wet air flow the stenocara’s back surface, the vapor gathered on the bump of surface. By these principle, I can conclude that I can gather the vapor in the air, and I started to work with real plants directly. I made a pot with plants, and sealed with plastic vinyl. Light can go through the pot. And I made the spider web structure at the top of my model, horizontally. I put this model out and observed it. When I placed this model inside the home, I can’t see anything, but I move it outside, the inner side of my model got misty. As time goes by, I can see some vapor bubble not on the string that I constructed, but on the plastic vinyl wall. Depending on this results, I can conclude that vapor will get formed to water bubbles in the condition of different temperature between innerside and outter side. And it is hard to get vapor with horizontal surface, but more easier on the surface tilted. So I can make double layered space which one is with housing program, another one is with inner garden. By the different temperature, I can get the water on the surface of my building, through the process of evaporation.

WRITE HERE ON CAPITAL,BETWEEN dots ASPECTS YOU HAVE LEARNT DURING THE VIDEO SHOOT SITE EXAMPLES.TOOLS.WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED FOR MY PROJECT WHERE I THINK IS GOING TO BE MORE APPROPIATE Heyri which is located in Paju-Tan hyun, is the art village surrounded by Dong hwa admiration park, Tan-hyun industrial complex, Unification hill, and Pa-ju english village. And people can approach to the site by some transportation like car, bus, bike, or own foot. The site is surrounded by some other’s house and there are some gallery, cafe, restaurant, photo studio ect. near the house area. So people who live there can use these conditions. This village is consisted of various kinds of real artist. For this reason, I can conclude that there are many various kinds of artists in there, so there are lots of sources which can gather them. Actually, many people visits this art village because there are many various kinds events are happened. In micro analysis, there are some specific house around the site, I can figure out that some house has their own small farm. Maybe some people who live there grow the plant by themselves, they can get the some specific vegetable but not all the vegetables needed for their life. And, because of the Korean climate conditions, which is four seasons, they can’t get the vegetables in cold weather like late autumn, winter. So I’m thinking the reversed situation in different seasons. That means outdoor farming is possible in springsummer-fall but in winter, indoor farming is needed. Indoor farming is possible by some reference about some tecknology like hydroponic some etc. but I have to consider about using empty outdoor empty space in winter.

Exactly, my project is going the way of planning artificial landscape, I want to make a natural elements like vally, hill etc. I have to consider the relationship between site landscape, because there are two small mountain surrounding my site. There is also small stream, I can consider the situation irrigating or harvesting vapor in the air made by this stream. There are some restautants and cafe people who live or don’t live can use, my project has a possibility for a meca of these cook who work in there, I can make a social connection between them by planning the exterior or interior garden. Project could be the dormitory of the local cooks where cook can practice, labor or fantastic restaurant of local people. Considering features of this village I can make some specific food culture. I interviewed some people who live in the house around the site. She grows some vegetables, plants etc. She gets the water in mountain by irrigating. And there is small stream nothern way of the site, so I can connect the way of water using in my house gardening. She said also about the cost, she doesn’t be paid when the visitor comes, because she does gardening just for hobby. But gardening takes too much costs. In conclusion, Heyri is the village where many artists live, and there are many visitors, my project will be the way of producing new food culture and tree of food in the local society that people can grow, harvest, and cook by using natural conditions.

I learned from Professor Maria Jose, how to organize some specific information usefully. Her diagram lecture was imteresting to me, now I am good for treating and organazing complicate information.

When I work with some document and try to explain them. I felt it is a little hard to try the other people to understand the way of exactly what I’m thinking. A lot of communication made me explain better than the past.

We have made our own pop-up architecture. This exercise made me think more imaginarary things. And this initial idea becomes clues that show the way of developing my design.

We made a lot of documents that can explain each our project, like pop up book, diagram, brochure, video etc. Making these specific format, I felt like being a Renessance man who is distinguished in many different fields.

Initially I arranged the space depending on my plan, The shape of each room was not selected, I organized the space by reference of phillip grham which represent thermodynamic, and I connected each room with thermodynamic layer, This layer will combine each room and be the farm categorized by thermodynamic.

Architectural elements of each room is consisted of the layer of the slab. I connected the each room with this layer. I used rhino to make a slab. To connect each room, I lofted each slab by circulation, and made a section. Finally deleted the vertical surface, made horizontal surface. The most high level of room will be the cook’s space.

I connected each circle slab for expanded dynamic space. This slab will be the outter farm connecting each space, categorized by thermodynamic. People who visit his house can travel my house by this indicator. This slab also works as a chair, table, or something etc. By this conditions, Facade of my project will be full of cook’s ingredients.

quality as a tool?

working energies?

scales of work?

Seeing natural organism, there are various kinds of principle hidden in natural organism. They has evolved to survive in narural crisis. So they have strong structure systems and the way of living. These inform the principle of organic systems.

To make sophisticated model, I used the razer cutting machine, It recognize even the little tiny object. So it was good for saving time to make a sophisticated model.

Working energies is important issues for the near future architecture. Decreasing the amount of oil resources, making and saving energies is really important. There are some project that I can learn.

Not the box shape design, It is little bit hard to calculate the space. Arranging the person first, It is good for feeling the scale of the space and also domesticity.

FOOD STORAGE IN HEYRI WRITED BY SHIN JONG WOO NAME OF YOUR COMMUNITY CHARACTER Cook actually work with each other making some each part. Making food has a series of sequence like washing, baking frying, some etc. So In big restaurant, working with each other make cook make food fast, they can respond of order from visitors. In heyri, there are several restaurant. And my clint Lim Ji Hoo is a master chef. So my client can organize the team of cook and control each cook. He is good at making a new food by mixing the ingredients, other cook from different restaurant can learn from the my client. By cook’s community, people who visit the Heyri, will visit in my building because they may want some specific new food. Because cooks grow their ingredients using for their food by themselves, People can be relieved about the quality of ingredients. Visitor can see the vegetables, domestic animals, and fishes. People would feel like visiting animal park, botanical garden. This natural background will make a good taste of the food. And the special visitor from the Heyri art village like musician, painter, architect, some etc. make a impressive scenery enjoying their work with dilicious food.

Planing Inner space Which is the aim...

From the midterm model, Considered the thinking of inner space, I imagined the layer works as a domesiticty. And also they can move climbing my building. My client can make a natural window or natural walls by planting the vegetables on the structure skin. Cook can be an architect.

Spread out limitless main conclusions

My volum is expanded or reduced horizontally. Because of not just for a shape, but for useful space. To connect the layers and make real, the special structure system is need. So I made a mock up model, that lead to successful. This system is some kind of truss system, I connect the limitlessly the mid-point of each polygon. It has more density by the load it has to support, and I imagine that this system support all the architecture element along the smallest one like a table or something to entire building. To apply this system in my project, it has to be double layered supporting system, which is inner support and outter support. And by the program I added into center space, The energy and hydroponic energy will supplyed entire building with this system like a blood vessel of human body.

First I thought about existing group housing. Multi house has developed on the direction of containing many people, So there are countless apartment in Korea. The apartment has no community between each other. So I wanted make a community each house that can people feel more familiar with their own neighborhood.

I was thinking about the other side of connecting. If I connect the personal space toward central space, the person who in the living room can have the good view toward outside. And the private space will be corvered by the natural wall. So I can have a privacy.

This diagram is the proposal that I choose. To statisfy both merit of connecting diagram, I changed my module. To find a structure system, I made a mock up model using the carton. It has thickness direction of depth. Having the depth, it was easy for connecting and making. The final mock up was successful that it was really rigid.

To satisfy my scale, it has to be more sophisticated and thin. I made another mock up study with thinner carton. To make it rigid, it has to be more density.

Finally I decided the appropriate scale. Too much sophisticated, It was really hard to make by hand. So I used razer cut to make this model. There was no difference with the way of making that between pasting each liner things and cutting and making a hole.
