This is a site in Hu Tou Pei Scenic Park. It is a national scenic area but sparse and quiet. When I first visited the park, it reminded me of the famous ancient poem Ding Feng Po by Su Dong Po. While I was reading the poem, I suddenly realized that poems and literature are the compression of spaces, atmosphere and even time. They are the result of a description of the feelings evoked by the environment the poet is surrounded by. I tried to establish an experimental method, to reverse the whole process, in order to create spaces that match the descriptions. First, decompress the words into graphics. Then, by analyzing the graphics and scenario at the same time, I can create unique spaces that represent the poem. I regard it as an anti-abstract process. The poem is about life and death. Thus, I set up a program for euthanasia. This is a place to stay for the last days of one’s life. People who choose to receive euthanasia can spend their time with their family and get near to the nature in the site. Before taking euthanasia, the farewell ceremony will take place on a higher level facing the West, in order to watch the sunset in the distant scenery. (The West has a special meaning in Chinese culture. The West is kind of like the concept of heaven in Chinese religions)

Inspired by Bernard Tschumi’s design work “Parc de la Villette”, architects play the role of director while composing spaces. In Event Cities 2 Bernard Tschumi writes: “In literature and in cinema, the relationship between frames or sequences can be manipulated through devices such as flashbacks, jump-cuts, dissolves, and so on. Why not in architecture or in landscape?” The sequence of the spaces are the series of events, movements and activities. A pathway connects each of the segments of the sequence like the storyboard of a film.

I copied the poem Ding Feng Bo which had been written using calligraphy. I then made a collage using the format of Chinese landscape (Shan Shui) painting. This helped me to depict the artistic conception in the poem. Then, I analyzed the shapes and meanings of the words and organized them by an ancient Chinese method of Yin and Yang, visionary and real, in order to create a Shan Shui artwork. Then, I used these references to transcribe the work into geometric results. These steps made me closer to the world Su Dong Po tried to describe. And an architecture based on these methods will embody the charm of the poem. When arranging spaces, I adapted the philosophical thoughts of Chinese Taoism. Life and death, brightness and darkness are opposite factors. However, they must simultaneously exist to bring out the essence of each other. When everything in the world has an equilibrium with its opposite, the world become a full circle like the icon of Ying and Yang. It is a unique method to elaborate dramatic spaces, so I try to utilize the concept in my design. For instance, I use extremely dark rooms to make the other rooms seem brighter. Confined, narrow paths to accentuate the vast gardens. And the lonely room of death to make the gathering rooms even more lively.
PROJECT1
The relationship between the sections and the landscape is also carefully considered. I place the trail onto the steep terrain but lessen the user’s awareness of height change. There is a well-known Chinese saying: “Humans struggle upwards, water flows downwards.” This means that we should strive to succeed but always be humble in-front of Nature like water. Thus, the altitude of the room for people who are about to receive euthanasia is built on the water level, in order to show respect to the land. However, during the farewell people will be lifted up to a viewpoint where they can have an intact vision to overlook the site. This will be the only chance to do so, which makes the view even more precious. It is also one of the realizations of my concept of Chinese Taoism.

Due to the development circumstances of the Eastern and Western Districts of Tainan, they are substantially different. The Western District began to develop in the era of the Japanese occupation, while the Eastern District began after the establishment of the railway. Therefore, there are obvious differences. For example, there are quite a lot of preserved monuments in the West District, resulting in a hot spot for sightseeing. And there are many organic alleys. However, the Eastern District is mostly a residential and a school district with more open green spaces. I n r e c e n t ye a r s , t h e Ta i n a n g ove r n m e n t has proposed a plan for the urbanization of railways. It is planned that the railway will be underground in 2025, and the original railway land will become a green park and footpaths. However, the railway that has always existed makes the East and West districts look like two different worlds. I think there must be some way to knit together the differences in the city.

The plot is located at the interface between the historical and residential areas and is adjacent to the Tainan Railway Station. To the north is the Former Tainan Magistrate Residence which is the most important historical building in the Eastern District. I think the plot is a good chance to make up for the lack of sightseeing in the Eastern District as the "Livingroom of Tainan City". At the same time, the hotel function is expected to be used as a plaza for tourists and local activities of the community, as a transition before entering the Western District to ease the dramatic differences between the two areas.

Taiwan is Netflix's mainstream market in the Chinese-speaking region. Currently, there is a research and development center in the north of Taiwan, but there is no stronghold in the south. Therefore, I think that the southern part of Taiwan should also have a cultural park with Netflix as its base, serving as a place for market experiments. Therefore, I want to have a combination of Netflix experimental theater and concept hotel. Serving as a Netflix brand image and market research, to facilitate Netflix's more accurate development in the Chinese language market, and also to have a Taiwanese cultural center in Tainan, a new cultural square.
The Former Tainan Magistrate Residence has great impact on my design. As the starting point of the section, the Former Tainan Magistrate Residence strings a common vertical circulation until the roof of the Netflix Gallery and Netflix Cinema. This circulation is also the hotel's atrium, so many residents and tourists interaction can happen here. My concepts are: To use vertical public spaces to attract people, to have common spaces between the L-shaped blocks, and the Atrium allows tourists, locals, and hotel residents to communicate. The common space surrounded by two L-shaped blocks is like the plot, giving some open spaces to the city.

The configuration of the base will introduce the crowd on the future green belt and a plaza serving as a large outdoor stage. On the ground floor, is a large staircase facing the Former Tainan Magistrate Residence to guide visitors into the plot. I also take into consideration the continuation of the old alleys, deliberately making ways to allow the community to join the activities on the plot. There is an east-west road in the south. This road is important to sew the east and west districts together. Therefore, I reserve some open activity space along the street and set up a commercial belt, hoping to increase the pedestrian atmosphere of the area. IMAGE FROM THE WEST DISTRICT

There are Co-livingrooms in the hotel that play different kinds of Netflix series. Co-livingroom exists in the common spaces of each floor, allowing the same type of movie lovers to choose the floor according to their preferences. I want to create a significant hierarchy change from public space to common space to private space, allowing residents to feel privacy while interacting with each other, which I think is a very crucial part of the hotel.

Observing the current situation near the Tainan Railway Station, I discovered that because of the territorial nature of human beings, and timing, and circulation, it is hard for different ethnic groups to encounter each other. As a result, the commercial industry around the plot is diverse. For me, the meaning of communication is to enable people from different positions or ages to understand one another and to be inspired by diverse life experiences. Therefore, in an ideal society, different people will always have a chance to interact with each other. The plot is very close to the train station, so it is adjacent to the activities of these diverse people. Therefore, we can see the potential of the plot to bring people together and interact with each other. Here, my aim is to build a hybrid building of commercial, public space, and collective housing. I think that urging different groups of people to communicate is not achieved through intertwining their accommodation. The first and most important thing is to ensure each other's domain because this is the nature of human habitation. People will navigate towards others who share similar living habits.

PROJECT1 PROJECT2 PROJECT3 PROJECT4 PROJECT5 APPENDIX
I didn't want to change this, so I defined the spaces by categorizing them into students, commuters, foriegn workers, elders and visitors. Then, I analyzed the needs of different residents, made the induction according to the degree of privacy required to create these spaces, and figured out the relation between these spaces. Then I observed the facilities near the plot, and arranged the relative positions of different people's houses. 23

In this case, I tried to use the path of going home to think about my design. First, I find out the habits of each group. Then, I try to think about how the journey of going home is intriguing to them, and if this process can reach out to different types of people. I think it will be interesting. 25
APPENDIX PROJECT5 PROJECT4 PROJECT3 PROJECT2 PROJECT1
26
I propose the main concept: the journey of going home. The original boring vertical line, socalled “core, can become a space where many activities and events occur. I prolong the simple path, so that the process may go through some outdoor gardens while watching the behavior of different ethnic groups, and even be able to join various activities. The vertical circulation will become the stage of everyday life. This optional journey adds uncertainty to life, but it is these unexpected encounters that enrich life. The core is separated from the volume and stretched, and the vertical path becomes the elevation of the building. Without the core restrictions, the volume of the building will become free and flexible.
PROJECT1 PROJECT2 PROJECT3 PROJECT4 PROJECT5 APPENDIX
The plot is adjacent to one of the most important roundabouts in Tainan. However, the central plaza is rarely used. Only dense traffic and no activity can be seen here. Regarding the opportunity mentioned above for an underground railway station, I hope that the center of the roundabout will become a sunken plaza for events. Furthermore, the people coming out of the train station can choose to exit in different directions, one of them being our plot. Therefore, the area will be revived because of the incoming people. These people can walk on the steps into the building, even up to the second floor. The entire building is like a vertical park that also brings vertical greening to the city.

I find the floor plans of collective housing quite boring, so I insist that each floor and apartment is slightly different, offering a variety of options for the residents. Every floor has a semi-outdoor green balcony that allows the image of the vertical park to be continued. It is worth mentioning that between the volumes for the elderly and small families, several units are designed to be connected by bridges. These units will become the “three generations residential unit. I have observed that although some adults live with their parents, they hope to retain their privacy. This is a family-style unique to Chinese culture. The advantage of a residential unit connected to a household is to ensure mutual privacy, but because of the shared living room and dining room, they can still take care of each other.

The seventh and eighth floors (the top two floors) are the penthouses. Two different families share a courtyard. After ensuring the privacy of each other's living, I position the work and relax spaces opposite each other, and the lighting of the courtyard will bring light to these rooms. Because the configuration of each floor is slightly different, the faรงade is also more exciting, and the front and back retracting volumes create a sense of rhythm on the facade, and at the same time increases the surface area of the building. Therefore, the green semi-outdoor spaces increase so that people can easily approach nature.

Tainan lacks a large commercial office, and the location of the site is suitable as a base for the industry-academy cooperation project. The company can use the geographical advantage to attract talents. The south side of the plot is a commercial belt, the north is the NCKU university campus, the east is a park, the west is a residential area. The plot is an old staff dormitory area, which is located on a node that connects the campus to the community, the Green jungle, and the Concrete jungle.
PROJECT2 PROJECT3 PROJECT4 PROJECT5
I think that a good office building should be able to change the interior organization as the company expands, reorganizes, merges, and decreases. However, the existing office buildings do not have such characteristics, so I propose a new concept "Replanable Building-Cubicle as furniture".
PROJECT1
The rise of sky-scraper office buildings in the Chicago School of Architecture and the influence of post-war modernism on Taiwanese architecture has caused commercial space and high-rise buildings to gain popularity. However, such office buildings do not relate to the humanscale, making them seem soulless. These office buildings emphasize consistency and rapid development, but ignores the different types of business and develop the same plans. This is wrong, architecture should conform to human behavior, and the company's structure should not be restricted by the building.

The ground floor is as open and flexible as possible, the high floor slab allows the neighborhoods to enjoy the open semi-outdoor spaces, at the same time has a roof that shelters from the sun and rain. Deliberately letting the original urban fabric be preserved so that active business behavior can be extended into campus. With vertical vegetation, nature is introduced into the room as much as possible. The height of the buildings around the plot is relatively low, and there is a lot of open space. Therefore, the office building should not be too towering. I think it is especially important to preserve the low skyline of East District, Tainan. As for the buildings on the plot, instead of removing them completely, I chose to preserve the four deserted staff quarters that were relatively well kept. Then transform them into flexible use spaces for co-working and exhibitions.

The left images shows two examples of the First floor plan. Every cubicle is flexible except the fixed function such as lecture hall and the vertical circulations. Although the units seem free to move, they somehow follows a patern. The spans of the building are either 15m or 9m. In corrispond, all cubicle units meets the module of 3m and 5m so the placement can be more logical and efficient.
38
PROJECT2 PROJECT3 PROJECT4 PROJECT5 APPENDIX
My view of the circular economy is that the end of any material can be the starting point of another cycle. So I hope to consider the cycle of each Cubicle use and replacement, so I made a series of in-depth studies on the construction details of Cubicles. I design all the joints to be Dry Methods, which can be removed or modified easily at the end of each material cycle.
PROJECT1
Starting from the office building as a demonstration, I hope to promote it to a metabolically growing city. Based on modularization, the city could share the replacement units (Cubicle) to improve metabolic efficiency. Buildings will be like bookshelves and the programs like books on bookshelves. The placement and replacement of books can be arbitrary and should be emphasized in the future city. I try to portray my vision of the ideal future city, emphasizing efficiency, and taking into account the uniqueness of the user, and such uniqueness should be left to the user to define.
This picture is the material cycle of Cubicles.

The 2016 Timber Structure Competition was held in Shoulangh Cultural Park .The park was a huge sugar factory and turned into an arts center of Tainan. As one of the main designers and the foreman of the structure, I wanted to create a space in which visitors could rest, and for kids to play. The main entrance of the structure follows the direction of the main trail. So the visitors are encouraged to interact with the Avocado tree in the site on different heights.

We believe that events in spaces will make the structure come alive.

Taiwan is an island surrounded by the ocean. The most important connection of Taiwan to the world is the ocean. We sell mass seafood all around the world every year. Thus, we start our discussion of the relationship between "Free" and "Spaces" from the perspective of investigating the local fish markets. We chose the famous Anping fish market as the observed site and realized that the fish market is the interface of the ocean and human clusters. Tainan is the first developed city in Taiwan.
