Albuquerque Academy Student Exhibition April 22nd through April 29th, 2015 Opening Reception: Friday, April 24th, 5-7pm* Turner Carroll Gallery, 725 Canyon Road, Santa Fe The first in Turner Carroll’s Emerging Artist program for 2015, the juried exhibition of Albuquerque Academy artwork presents an exceptional body of work by Academy’s 9-12th graders. From over 270 submissions, a panel of Santa Fe curators, gallerists, artists, and critics selected the most compelling 25 works. The jurors included Albuquerque Academy graduate, curator, and Creative Santa Fe Director Cyndi Conn, art critic and gallerist Jordan Eddy, and gallerist Erikka James. Stephen Buxton, an artist juror, selected two works to receive “Artistic Vision” awards. Albuquerque Academy offers its students an exceptional visual art program, as is evident in the works to be exhibited. Turner Carroll presents this Academy student work to show the importance of high-level arts education. The current national political/educational system undervalues and consistently cuts funding for the arts in schools. However, the greatest success in our society comes from individuals who are able to innovate, by creating a unique concept and following it through to entrepreneurial completion. Many of the student artists will be present for the opening at Turner Carroll, and will learn about the professional world of art for the first time. A portion of the proceeds of sales of the artworks will be given to Albuquerque Academy in honor of its outstanding art program.
