Welcome Back! After an eventful year it is the time to celebrate your success. I congratulate all learners who have successfully completed their skills development programme, secured work-placements, apprenticeships and more importantly secured and sustained employment. As we all say your success is our pride! The journey of past year has been tough and challenging for us. Amidst these challenges we have been awarded as Ofsted ‘Good’ institution in recognition for the work that we carry out in order to bring about positive changes in the communities we serve. We also continue to be Matrix Standard accredited to demonstrate our excellence in providing highest quality IAG services. Despite the challenges from socio-economic dimensions we will continue our efforts to engage communities who are most in need and fulfill our mandate of providing excellence in up skilling those learners who are furthest away from jobs and sustainable quality of life. Denza had lost her confidence and “there were times where (she) wondered whether (she) was ever going to

She was supported by 5E advisors Terry and Vennette to bring about her lost confidence and after a few IAG sessions with her advisor Terry, she started to see “things differently”. She was empowered at 5E Ltd to engage and participate in job-search activities and attending job related screening sessions. This resulted in her successfully gaining a job as a

Farzana Iqbal was unemployed for several years before joining the work programme. Farzana joined 5E Ltd. on the work programme. “When I joined, my advisor Paresh assessed my skills, he then guided me step by step into self-employment helping me gain the confidence needed for me to be successful in a role that is usually taken up by men mostly. I am now very happy with my role as an electrician which allows me to have the flexibility and preference of working hours and am able to balance both family and work.” Says Farzana

In line with the Government’s initiatives for young people, 5E Ltd. proudly presents the Skills Boost Programme to impart sector based skills to the unemployed young adults and empower them into full time employment.
All learners under the Programme undertake intensive 2
weeks full time work preparation training led by a specialist
tutor. In these two weeks they vital employability skills required by today’s modern employers followed by a work placement. Learners also get the opportunity to participate in the in-house recruitment drives conducted by the EST teams. .

Breaking the Stereotype We are living in a world that has many stereotypes and categorisation of this age group. “Stereotypes can become too rigid and when there is no room for growth the label becomes stifling, both for the individuals who are labelled and for the category itself” says

My teacher has always been very patient and encouraged me to speak in English even if I made mistakes. She also taught me how to read and write in English. I was very shy at first. vere case of Epilepsy. I have been on ESA for most part of 15 years. When I came on the Work Programme I explained my advisor that my health issue was my major barrier towards employment and on a regular basis we used to discuss about types of job that I can do without having to
worry about my health. Once, there was an opportunity for a Turkish carer and she asked me if I will be able to do this and I agreed to do it. ...I assured her that I could do it. My client who I take care of now is very happy with my work and I am happy that I have a job despite my health issue.”

5E Limited (5E) is a not-for-profit company established in October 1998 to provide vocational qualifications and employment-ready skills to local disadvantaged communities. It has a head office in the London Borough of Haringey, with eight centres across North and North East London. Initially in 1998 5E was only providing the New Deal, work-based learning and welfare to work programmes for adults in North London. We were then successful in obtaining funding from a range of funders including the European Social Fund (ESF), European Regeneration Development Fund (ERDF), Single Regeneration Budget and other programmes. In August 2006, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) (now the Skills Funding Agency) awarded 5E Ltd a contract to provide Train to Gain programmes. In August 2007, North London LSC (SFA) awarded 5E a contract to provide the Employability Skills Programme (ESP) . We currently deliver over twenty projects from 7 centres around North and North East London.
