Pro Lates Go for 100 Laps
It’s finally that time of the year that all of our loyal race fans love, time to start a new season at Five Flags Speedway, and we plan to kick the opening night off with some excitement. How does a 100 lapper for the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Models sound to you? That’s just what you will see tonight as we expect a great field of Pro’s. The Pro Trucks, Sportsman and Pure Stocks are also on the card for tonight’s action which will add a lot of racing excitement to the evening’s activities. We’ll return on April 14th as the “Modifieds Of Mayhem” make their first stop of 2017 at America’s Favorite Home Track along with the new Outlaw Stocks, Sportsman and Pure Stocks. The Super Late Models will be up next as they invade the track for their first appearance of the year on April 28th for the first of four Blizzard Series races.
You can pick up a 2017 schedule by stopping by the track Monday thru Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm or go to our website 5flagsspeedway. com, or look on page 2. You can also turn in to “In The Groove” on BLAB/TV every other Monday at 6 pm. I would like to close this article by sending our condolences to the Dave Steele family. One of, if not the best, Sprint Car driver to race one of the winged Monsters lost his life in a race at Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, Florida last Saturday,. Sending prayers to the family on their loss as Dave left this world at the young age of 42 . You will surely be missed my friend.

Roderick, Choquette to Write New Chapter Budding Rivalry
Set in
Casey Roderick and Jeff Choquette made short-track racing great again last summer. It didn’t really need it, mind you. But the pair elevated late model racing with their intense game of cat and mouse around Pensacola’s famed half-mile oval. The dynamic duo had the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series by the throat and the rest of the field at their mercy. They waged an epic four-month battle for Pro Late Model supremacy at Five Flags Speedway. Emotions between the two, often boiling over, ran hotter than an engine overheating in July. Choquette, 30, got the better of Roderick, 24, to the tune of five straight victories. Roderick gritted his teeth and could only muster wry smiles, settling for runner-up honors each time. What, pray tell, will this odd couple do for an encore when the Allen Turner PLMs open their season tonight. “I haven’t talked to him about any of it,” Roderick said, a sentiment Choquette also echoed. “It oughta be interesting to see how strong he is. Hopefully, we have a good battle. I feel like we have a better car than the once we raced against him last year.” (Story con’t on our web site).

Back with Grill and GARC, South Ready to Tame Five Flags Forty minutes across the center of the State of Alabama. That’s all that separates Justin South from his family-owned, Richard Pettyinspired No. 43 Pro Late Model. But under the careful, watchful eyes of late model legend Augie Grill the stock car might as well be in South’s own backyard in Leeds, Ala. Grill, who in addition to his driving duties also manufacturers Grand American Race Cars (GARC) in Dolomite, Ala., is a perfectionist stuck in a sport that is often defined by its unfortunate mishaps. Thanks to Grill’s Midas touch, South has started his 2017 season with a bang. Fresh off a victory in the Baby Rattler 125 with Grill acting once again as his crew chief, South comes to Five Flags Speedway in anticipation for the 100-lap Allen Turner Pro Late Model season opener Friday.“Augie is instrumental in our success this season, and my success personally in making me a better racecar driver,” the 28-year-old South said.
