Ready for the Modifieds?

The “Ground Pounding” open wheel Modifieds will make their first appearance of 2017 as the Modifieds of Mayhem invade Five Flags Speedway tonight. Always exciting, we expect a stout field of cars with drivers such as Donnie Hamrac, Jeff Letson and Adam Crawford, along with some Texas drivers including “hot shoe” Joe Aramendia. (see story on inside).

The all new Outlaw Stocks will be back in action and we expect another great race like we saw back on March 5th. This class seems to be very popular with the fans and with the drivers alike. We have reports that several new cars are being built at this time. One dirt driver who will make his asphalt debut this week is another “hot shoe”, Kevin Mitchell. He will be behind the wheel of Kenny Kings beautiful Outlaw Stock. The Sportsman and Pure Stocks are also on the schedule so get ready for some great racing in the Pure Stocks as the Mobile Mafia will be

back in action. I am sure I don’t have to remind you of the wild night of action back on March 31st. More on the Pure Stocks on page 3. We will return April 28th with the 1st of four Blizzard Series races for the Super Late Models, along with the Pro Truck, Sportsman and Pure Stocks. Speaking of Super Late Models, I want to take a moment to congratulate Casey Roderick on his win at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tn., in the North/South Shootout between the Southern Super Series and the CRA series, based out of Indiana. As a matter of fact this is the second straight year that the South brought home a 1-2-3 finish as Augie Grill finished second and Kyle Plott came home third. They all did a great job as they went up against a very tough field of Northern drivers. We will get to see these three and many more stars of the Southern Super Series here in 2 weeks with the first Blizzard race of the year... the Rubber & Specialties100. See ya at the races, and next time, bring a friend!

Aramendia Leads Modifieds of Mayhem Tour into Five Flags, His Home Away from Home By Chuck Corder The asphalt short tracks around Texan Joe Aramendia have been swallowed up whole. In fact, the lone asphalt racetrack that remains in the Lone Star State is Texas Motor Speedway, home to NASCAR’s annual pilgrimages. But, as Aramendia put it, “they only race twice a year.” The 53-year-old hasn’t let life’s setbacks keep him parked, though. Aramendia has become a familiar face at Five Flags Speedway in recent years, winning two Modifieds features the last two seasons. Aramendia, who hails from Seguin, Texas, will once again make the 11-hour haul to compete in the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour. “I wanted more competition, better competition,” Aramendia explained. “And Five Flags is one of the most notable racetracks around. “I like the technicalities in the track. If you can figure them out, you can be fast. Part of the challenges in getting around the track is managing tire wear and staying out of the inside and outside walls — how quick can you get to the inside wall as you approach Turn 1, that type of stuff. I love all of it. It’s a driver’s track.” Aramendiais as the Modifieds of Mayhem points leader thanks to his win last month at Montgomery Motor Speedway. In both 2015 and 2016, he won 50-lap Modified features in Pensacola. Read the rest of Chuck’s story on our web site.

Can Anyone Pass Day? Athletes are creatures of habit. Repetition breeds rhythm. Rhythm begets consistency. Consistency is the threshold to success. So it would figure that if the rhythm lies dormant for years, muscle memory should shut down. That’s what we expect from mere mortal athletes. The immortals, the great ones, can retire and un-retire multiple times and still turn heads. Johnathan Day is on an immortal run currently. After five years away from short-track racing, the 28-year-old Day wasted little time in dusting off the rust. Instead, the Mobile-area driver has won both Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks 20-lap features this season. “I’m as surprised as anybody at wining two in a row, and especially the first two of the season,” Day said. “I didn’t think I’d be that fortunate right outta the gate. I did not think I had enough laps or seat time.” Day looks to make it a perfect three-for-three this. In addition to keeping his winning streak intact, Day hopes to return to clean racing with rival Robert Loper. After Day won on March 31, the two teams exchanged words, first, then, punches in the pits... track officials broke the skirmish up. (more of Chucks story on the web).
