regular division classes have their own special night. Tonight it’s the Sportsmen drivers turn to “Show Boat” as the featured event in the West Florida Coating Sportsmen Speedtacular. All year this class has consistently given some of the most exciting and competitive racing we have seen. Points leader Brannon Fowler has a slim lead over second place Jim Pokrant, while Marty White, Randy Thompson and Chris Nielsen round out the top five. Throw Steve Buttrick, Stevie Mercer, Tina Davidson and Jimmy Goodwin in the mix and I promise you a good ole dog fight for all 35 laps.

onight is regular points for the Sportsmen, but on September 9th it’s double points for them and the Bombers. Also tonight a 25 lap feature, plus heat races, for the Super Stocks and heats and a 20 lap Bomber feature.

Cerebral Palsy. The Celebrity Race. Sounds like a pretty exciting night doesn’t it? Well if you feel kinda short changed, hang around because we are going to give you a real treat. How about something you’ve not seen here in many years. A DEMOLITION DERBY!! That’s right; we’re going to put a night cap on the evening with this “Wild and Crazy” event. The kids, especially will love it having never had the opportunity to see a Demo Derby. e will be back in W action on September 9th with the “Azera 100” for the Pro Late Models, sponsored by Allen Turner Hyundai. Also on the 9th will be the Modifieds, Sportsmen and Bombers. with double points for Sportsmen and Bombers.

And the winner is....Tommy Dyess of Cantonment, who went home with a new 32 inch LG LCD television from Buddy’s Home Furnishing Center on 9 Mile Road. The drawing was 2 weeks ago, during the Buddy’s Blizzard Series race, to celebrate the opening of their new Ensley store. One fan won $259 in the 50/50 drawing, and a Fan Club member won a car detail from Matt Barnett auto detailing.

Rules are designed for safety, and to equalize cost, so driving skill and set up are emphasized, not wallet. 1978-88 US made sedan or wagon with 108 inch wheelbase minimum. Engine must be for Model of car body. 2 barrel carb, no headers, stock heads for 350 engine, no porting. maximum compression 180 lbs. OEM rods, crank shaft; transmission can be manual or automatic. No 5 speed. Weight 3200 lbs minimum. Limit 52% of weight on left side with driver. Exterior chrome, lights, glass removed. Lexan or stock windshield required. GM Crate Engine allowed (see specs) 7 1/2 inch clearance above ground. Rear spoiler 5 x 60 inches max. 1 3/4 inch pipe in roll cage. Aluminum racing seat attached to roll bars to specs. Upholstery and headliner removed. Fuel cell required, up to 22 gallons max. Sunoco race fuel only. Window net, neck collars, helmet, drivers suit all required to specs. Tires are Hoosier 790.

Remove glass, anything loose, moulding, & exterior lights.

5 gallons of gas maximum.

Doors chained or welded shut, trunk empty, battery in original location.

Brakes must work. Helmet, seat belts, eye protection, and fire extinguisher required.
