Who Can Catch Chase ?

O

nly two races remain for the Super Late Models in the 2010 Blizzard Series. It’s time to crack down, do a little points racing, and use a conservative approach for a couple of the drivers. Points leader Chase Elliott has a mere 6 point lead over Bubba Pollard. If this Georgia pair can maintain their consistency and come away with top 5 finishes tonight and in the last Blizzard race on Sept. 24th it will pay big benefits for them. Not only will one of them walk away with the 2010 Championship, but could also walk away with the Sunoco Race Fuels Gulf Coast Championship which includes the “sister” races at Mobile International Speedway. Winning the championship at both Five Flags and Mobile, plus the Sunoco bonus bucks would make a nice early Christmas present. Probably the biggest gift would be a guaranteed starting spot in the 43rd Snowball Derby by winning the Blizzard Championship. On Aug 24th, people in Florida vote in the primary. We are happy to host the local candidates tonite and hope you get to meet them. They are here to see and hear from you.

On the other hand, a few of the drivers will have to go into tonight’s race with a “NO FEAR” attitude and take a very different approach. Some are trying to stay in the top ten in points and some are desperately trying to get in. Why is it so important to be in the top ten might you ask? Let’s say the top eight drivers in the Blizzard points qualify fast enough to get into the Derby but number nine and ten does not. Well they will be in the race with a provisional spot. As hard as it is to just qualify for a Snowball Derby, this has to be a huge relief. Take a look at the back page, we dug up an old photo from the 1978 Snowball with the original Alabama Gang. We welcome any old photos you may have in the closet or a shoe box. All ours were destroyed in Hurricane Ivan. The gang photo was from the family of the late Don Barnes. Also tonight are the Sportsman, Super Stock and Bombers. If all this isn’t enough, how about the Winged Sprints making their second trip to Pensacola on August 27th? I’m excited already!! Let’s Race!
