Miller Lite 100 Sets Stage for the Snowball For some reason over the last few years the car count in the Blizzard races seem to draw more cars for the first and last ones. Five Flags doesn’t expect any different tonite at the 5th and final Super Late Model race for 2009. After this Blizzard race, everyone will know who the champion will be and, most important to the drivers, who will be in the 42nd annual Snowball Derby. It is possible that any driver in the top ten in points could get in the Derby, if he or she doesn’t qualify for the race. The way this works is if the top 2 in Blizzard points qualify, we then move back to third and forth, and son on through the top ten. Example; Scott Carlson got in the Derby a few years ago by finishing seventh in points. This weekend will also crown a champion at Mobile International Speedway, and a champion in the Sonoco Bonus Bucks. The top 10 are listed inside and must race at both tracks. Steve Stokes is host of the BLAB TV show, and a track official.
This includes Bubba Pollard from Georgia, Pensacola’s Johanna Long and 2 time Snowball winner Augie Grill. Each could walk away with all three crowns. We also expect a few drivers who will be making their first appearance at the track for a Blizzard race and the reason for this is simple. They want lap time to get tuned up for the “BIG ONE” in December. Also the Super Stocks, Sportsman and Bombers are running tonite. The championship in all three of these classes is yet to be decided and may go down to the wire on October 9th during the “Night of Champions” races. Look on page 2 for photos of the drivers who have a shot at the Hoosier Championship Jackets.Tonites racing at Five Flags should be very exciting in all classes!!!! Making it even more fun tonite is the annual appearance of the Krewe of Yayas. The past 2 years our great fans supported the Yayas with several thousand dollars for cancer research. Until next time, I’ll see you at the races.
