ll my life I’ve heard the phrase “IT AIN’T OVER TILL THE FAT LADY SINGS”. That was so true last Friday in the Pepsi Max 100. For 95 laps Augie Grill totally dominated the race. A caution on lap 96 proved havoc for Grill as tech officials received compliments from other drivers Steve Stokes that the #112 was loosing fluid. Officials found rear end fluid pouring from the car and sent Grill to the pits. After a lengthy track cleanup, 14 year old Chase Elliott found himself in the number one spot. Now who would ever think the “Fat Lady” phrase would come in effect a second time. Elliott spun his tires on a restart with only 2 laps remaining allowing Bubba Pollard to gain the lead and hold off Elliott to win. See the close points standings for the Blizzard Series inside, plus the Sunoco Series. Before vacating the Pepsi Max 100, I just want to say we were extremely happy to see David Rogers walk away from his violent impact with the wall during practice.
Watch For These Guys Tonight Now let’s move on to tonights actions, The Pro Late Models return along with the Modifieds, Sportsman, and Bombers. D.J. Vanderley will be out to back up his opening night win for the Pro Lates, as he is concentrating on the 2010 Championship at Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway. This high school senior is also looking ahead to college, either at Auburn or Georgia Tech. Ryan Redmon the Orkin man from Marianna, will be looking for two in a row in the number 66 Modified. Steve Mercer (Sportsman) and Mike Goraum (Bombers) will be trying to shake last weeks bad luck after posting wins in the first two races of the early season. Each of these drivers will have to be on top of their game as wins don’t come easy at Five Flags Speedway. The’re both back to 3rd. Are electric powered cars in the future? See the story inside on the race here tomorrow where students build and drive battery powered cars. Its free to see. Welcome to the youth group from Calvary Church tonight! -Steve Stokes is a track official, BLAB-TV host, and former driver.
