Let’s Go Racing with the Pro Lates

N

ormally I would start off this article by telling you what a great nightBowen of racing we have in store for our wonderful fans. Not so this week. eing the tight knit B family that we are in the racing fraternity

(more than any other sport) I want to jump right in and send our thoughts and prayers out to all the families who suffered through the flooding in the Panhandle last week. Some of us faired pretty good but some of us were not that lucky. The storm ‘REALLY” hit home and caused a lot of havoc to some very special people in our racing circle. Scott Carlson and his family, along with Jeremy Pate and his family pretty much lost everything they have worked so hard for over the last few years. Donnie and Susan Ard also hit with great losses.

A

nother personal friend of mine and all the staff at Five Flags Speedway who witnessed a terrifying night was Dave and Kay Pavlock. Dave has

always been someone whom I’ve looked up to and can always turn to for advice or guidance when in doubt. They lost everything in their home including their two cars and had to be rescued by boat in the early hours of the morning. Dave has been announcing here for years. You will know him from his signature white shirt and pants. The old saying that “Good Guys Always Wear White” is so true and fits him to a tee!!

ast but not least L is our safety truck driver, Steve McNair. I just couldn’t imagine his fear that night as he was washed off Nine Mile road in his overturned truck on his way to help with the rescue units, to end up clinging to a tree until he was rescued. ll these people are A very special to us and I know them well

enough to say they are all strong enough to continue on the long road to recovery and I just can’t express how happy we are to be able to say this.

I

n closing, I want to say that I know there are many more people who have suffered losses and again, our thought and prayers go out to all of you who were affected. We also want to send a shout out to all the special heroes’ who have worked tirelessly assisting those in trouble, whether it was through rescue efforts, feeding and sheltering or assisting with cleanup crews. You all have a very special spot in our hearts.

M

“Where Racers Begin”

Allen Turner PLMs Highlight a Full Night of Action We’ve hit the year’s first mile marker in the 2014 season at Five Flags Speedway. A month of racing is down, but there’s still plenty more to go as door-to-door action returns to the famed half-mile asphalt oval tonight. After opening the season with a 100 lapper, the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series return to its regularly scheduled programming with split features of 20- and 30-lap races. Teenagers Garrett Jones and Bryce Dulabhan were the class of this series last year, battling for the track championship all the way to the season finale. But the pair will have some stiff competition from the likes of 2010 Snowball Derby champion Johanna Long. The 21-year-old Long, who finished sixth in the 100-lap race March 30, will be driving the No. 11 of close friend Tommy Rollins.

By Chuck Corder The Faith Chapel Super Stocks also make their second start tonight. Pace’s Todd Jones pasted the field last time out en route to his first Super Stocks feature victory in his first-ever start in the division.Jones, who won the 2011 Modifieds track title at Five Flags, overcame a starting position of eighth to capture his first win in three years. Molino driver Brannon Fowler won just two Beef “O” Brady’s Sportsmen features all of last season at Pensacola’s high banks. He has already matched that victory total just a month into the new year. He’ll look for win No. 3 tonight, as Fowler hopes to extend his 35-point lead over Milton’s Shanna Ard. The battle for supremacy among the Butler U-Pull-It Bombers appears as if it will stretch on all season. A little healthy rubbin’ on the final lap got Hunter Ward the checkered flag two Fridays ago.It also earned the Pensacola driver the points lead, as Ward pulled in front of Jerry Goff Jr., the previous leader, by a slim, four point margin
