Mods of Mayhem Set for Twin 40’s I sure hope all the mother’s had a great Mother’s Day this past Sunday. This should be a very special day for all of us because out “MOMS” deserve it. While we’re on the subject of mom, let’s move on to this Friday night here at Five Flags Speedway. You’re going to see some mom’s that are a little different from the “Sweet Little Ladies” that you are used to.

Also on the card for Friday will be the Super Stocks, Sportsman and Bombers. All drivers in will be out to stop the early 2016 domination of Todd Jones, Super Stock, Steve Buttrick, Sportsman and the drivers from Mobile in the Bomber class. On May 27th we return with the second Deep South Crane “Blizzard Series” for Super Late Models. If the first one was any indication, look for a strong field of cars. Congratulations to Georgia’s Casey Roderick on his win in the Blizzard race on April 29th. Looks like he may have back to back championships on his mind.

The one’s I am referring to are hardnosed rough around the edges out of control dare devils of the Modifieds of Mayhem (MOM) open wheel modified series that will be in the pits this week. Who in their right mind would schedule these boys on a Friday 13th? Blame Tim The family of Five Bryant for that. Flags would like to send their condolences to Steve All jokes aside, and Gale Brassell on the get ready for some fantas- loss of Steve’s mother this tic open wheel racing from past week. Gale is the sister drivers such as Melvin, of Kay Bryant and sister in Cotto, Hamric, Mason, law of Randy Bryant. Our Ruble and a host of others thoughts and prayers are who will light up the track with you and your families. with plenty of open wheel to wheel action. See inside story on Ryan Worsham.

Worsham Hopes Following in Old Man’s Modifieds Footsteps Means Reaching Victory Lane on Friday Night Like most boys, Ryan Worsham grew up idolizing his father. And for good reason. Richard Worsham was an accomplished driver for 15 years at Five Flags Speedway and along the Gulf Coast.

“I wouldn’t wanna do this with anybody else,” the younger Worsham said. “I love working with my dad. That’s what we do. Some kids throw the football with their fathers. We’re in the shop until 9 o’clock, 10 o’clock at night, working on the car.” (Con’t on next page).

More about Ryan Worsham

Father and son have worked together on full-bodied racecars since 2013. Ryan, now a freshman at Niceville High School, started running a Butler U-Pull-It Bombers car at the tender age of 13. In his rookie season, the baby-faced hotshoe wowed fans and his fellow drivers by winning three times and finishing a close second at the Snowball Derby. “We should’ve won it, but that’s part of racing,” Richard Worsham said. “I remember having to sign a waiver for him to just drive that year. He’s never looked back.” Thanks to the help of key sponsors, such as Bob Wilson of Boost Mobile of Pensacola, Ryan has quickly climbed through the ranks. He spent last year driving in the Beef “O” Brady’s Pro Trucks division, finishing second four times — twice to short-track king Bubba Pollard and twice to perennial contender Steven Davis. Ryan also competed a few times on dirt with the Southern Vintage Racing Association cars to sharpen his sliding skills. In his first three races with the Modifieds of Mayhem this year, Ryan has steadily gained ground, improving from a respectable seventh in his inaugural feature to a sixth to a third at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in his most recent run.
