ur drivers, in all O divisions, seem to be on a mission this
season like no other, to drive their race cars to the limit to bring home the trophy. It doesn’t seem to matter what class of cars we are watching, the competition has been tense and has surely kept us on the edge of our seats all year long.
also know they only have 20 laps to get to the front to contend for the win. In the second feature (30 laps) each of the cars that finish on the lead lap on the previous 20 lapper will be completely inverted. What does that mean you ask? Simply, the better you finish in the first race, the harder you have to work in the second one. The only bonus is that you have ten extra laps in the second race.
on’t expect anything lso on tonight’s D different tonight when the racing action Aschedule are the Pro Trucks, Sportsman kicks off at “America’s Favorite Home Track”. “Where Racers Begin”
By Chuck Corder
Jo and Jr; 2 Hometown Favorites Hard to believe, but it has only been two months since the Allen Turner Pro Late Models raced here. After 8 weeks of re-evaluating, repairing and readjusting, the PLMs roar back tonight with another double feature (20/30) in store and a hotly-contested race for the points championship hanging in the balance. Pensacola’s own Johanna Long sits atop the standings entering tonight. The 2010 Snowball Derby champion and former NASCAR Nationwide Series driver leads another local and fan favorite, Wayne Niedecken Jr., by 18 points with defending series track champion Garrett Jones sitting third (-25).
The 14-year-old Jones scored his first career win at Five Flags the last time the PLMs raced in May. With only two more starts remaining for the PLMs after tonight, each driver understands the stakes of this stretch run. The PLMs aren’t the only ones, though, fighting for championship positions tonight. The Pro Trucks, Beef “O” Brady’s Sportsmen and Butler U-Pull-It Bombers have already crossed the halfway point in their respective seasons and the race for No. 1 is still up for grabs. “ -(Read expanded feature stories on Jr Niedecken and Garrett Jones by Chuck Corder on our web site.
