Snowshoe Baseball Offers Great Entertainment for Families

LAKE TOMAHAWK – Don’t leave the Northwoods without taking in at least one game of snowshoe baseball – a beloved, yet zany game of softball played on actual snowshoes, using a 16inch ball, and with no gloves.

The local Snowhawk games are played each Monday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. with the last game of 2023 on Aug. 28. The action is intense with players sometimes tripping up and falling to the sawchip surface as they reach for a fly ball, or run the bases.

Admission is free with a butterfly net passed through the stands during the middle of the game. The net proceeds provide Snowshoe organizers with revenue used for expenses as well as donations to various charitable projects that help out community needs.

A concession stand is sponsored by area service clubs. Food is available beginning at 5:30 p.m. The menu includes brats, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and coffee. You won’t be able to resist the vast array of homemade pies to top off your pre-game meal. Some nights there are 60 varieties to choose from. A popcorn stand is available each game.
