F
ishermen everywhere have anxiously awaited the opener of fishing. Local resorts are eager to have their cottages up and running to accommodate the fisherman. Local restaurants re-open after spring cleaning and are ready to serve appetizing and delicious meals. You haven’t experienced Wisconsin until you go out for a famous Friday Fish-Fry!
Are You Bringing A Boat to the Conover Area?
Your boat may have been exposed to non-native life forms that are not welcome in Vilas County. Animals such as Zebra Mussels or Rusty Crayfish and plants such as Eurasian Water-milfoil can easily be transported unintentionally from a contaminated lake to one that is not. Be a responsible boater. Properly clean and disinfect your boat, trailer and fishing equipment before leaving home.
The Eagle River Journey’s Marathon course travels through Conover, rain or shine. Several local lodging facilities offer discounts to participants and their families. As the snow melts and the newly planted flowers surface, the community actively awaits a new season of tourists! We welcome you to join us here in Conover.

ore than bicycle wheels have been turning in the North Woods following the Wisconsin DOT’s approval of the first segment in a system network to connect towns of Three Lakes, Eagle River, St. Germain, Phelps, Conover and Land O’Lakes by 2020. This initial 3.2 mile Conover segment will utilize the CNW Rail Grade in town along US Highway 45 and head East toward Phelps. Completion estimated in 2013-14. Great Headwaters Trails, Inc. (GHT Inc.) was formed as a non-profit organization with 501(3) status and heads up the spirited long range goal for the systems development. The trailhead will be in the Conover Town Park where new, year round ADA accessible restroom facilities have been constructed. Cedar Corporation is the Conover Project Management Consultant with MSA Professional Services as the design / engineering firm. In cooperation with the SnoBuddies Snowmobile Club , Vilas County Trail Coordinator and other local agencies, it is necessary to construct three (3)

bridges over the creeks that the segment will encounter. Vilas County has been a valuable asset and active force in the overall Recreational Development Plan of its own as well as complementing the individual trail plans that are in place within all surrounding communities. The support and contributions from the private and business community will enable the segments to follow to become a reality much quicker. The members of the GHT Trails Inc. can be contacted for more information and for making a contribution to the projects under development. Members include Jeff and Ann Currie of Cloverland, Bob Payseur of Conover, Tuck Daniels of Phelps, Jeff Pauly of Land O’Lakes, Gary Meister and John Gagnon of Eagle River and Michael Robillard, President of Vilas Area Silent Sports Association (VASSA).
