Purpose The Purpose of this presentation is to…  Teach other children about air pollution.  Tell other children what can happen if we don't change our behaviour.  Help children learn how to take care of the environment.  Make people reflect on how to start helping the world.

Introduction • Any particles that float in the air and do not disappear, making the air dirty, is air pollution. • There are two types of air pollution, the natural and the non-natural. For example: erupting volcanoes is natural pollution and factory smokes are non-natural pollution.

What is “people pollution”? •The people do things that pollute the air, for example, when the people use a car or the television. This is people pollution.

What are fossil fuels? •The fossil fuels are the coal, oil or gases that heat our homes. •The fossil fuels can be harmful because when we burn them, they release toxic or poison gases into the air. This can create dust, soot, and tiny bits of stuff that pollute the air.

Pollutants .

Polluting gases

Characteristics

Carbon monoxide

It is polluting gas that is dangerous and if you breath it, you can die instantly.

Chemicals mixed with water

They are dangerous too. These chemicals from pesticides come down into the water or ground again with rain or snow. When the animals and the people drink the polluted water or eat polluted crops, they get pollution into their bodies.

How acid rain pollutes the air? •The acid rain occurs when the smog of the cars, factories raise into the air. When the water vapour and the smog condensate, it starts to rain dirty water. This rain pollutes the lakes and rivers so the fish die. Besides, the trees get unhealthy so the birds and insects don't have where to live and they die too.

How is SMOG formed? What is the problem with it? •The smog is formed by smoke from fires, or gases that come from burning fuel and even dust. •The problem with the smog is that it pollutes the air and it can bring breathing problems to people.

Types of ozone •Natural ozone high in the Earth’s atmosphere is a good thing, it acts like a sunscreen and filters out the sun rays.

•The Ozone that forms at ground level is a type of pollution. Chemicals called CFCs that are used in refrigerators, air conditioners, and some cleaners produce the ozone at ground level. It destroys the natural ozone.

What is happening to the ozone layer? •The ozone layer is getting destroyed because the air conditioners, chemicals and cleaners are damaging the layer so there are holes in the North and South Poles. The consequence is that the UV rays can damage your skin.

Pollutants Effects Airborne They can cause breathing difficulties. pollutants Carbon If you breath carbon monoxide monoxide indoors, you can die. Smog

Smog contaminates the earth, produces acid rain, and it can destroy animal's habitats

Acid Rain When the acid rain falls, it pollutes the rivers and lakes so the fish die, the trees aren't healthy, and the birds and insects can die.

Greenhouse Effect. • When the rays of the sun enter the earth and pass through the atmosphere, they are trapped by the smog of the cars, the smokes from the factories, and the chemicals. So they are kept in the earth and increase the temperature. This causes the global warming.

What are the consequences of air pollution? •Air pollution may cause climatic changes all over the world. •The green houses gases increase the temperature in the planet because the gases trap heat •The snow and ice caps are melting in the poles. •Airborne pollutants can make breathing difficult and can even lead to diseases such as cancer. •Smog brings breathing problems. •Air pollution causes acid rain, and it pollutes the ground, the air, and the water. •Air pollution destroys the protective ozone layer.

How can he stop polluting the air? •Walk or ride your bike instead of riding in a car. If you must drive, carpool or take a bus or train •Recycle glass, aluminum, steel, paper, and plastic. •Donate old clothes and toys to charity. •Buy things you need from third or secondhand stores. Everything you can reuse or recycle saves energy required to make new things. •Turn off lights and appliances when you do not need them. •Choose air-friendly energy suppliers if you have a choice. •Plant trees and flowers. Plants are natural “air cleaners,” removing carbon dioxide. Trees also provide shade.

Conclusions With this presentation we learned about the air pollution and how we can help the Earth. We learned about the acid rain, greenhouse effects and how people can pollute the environment.
