Tequila-less Sunrise ingredients 3/4 cup pulp free orange juice 1/2 cup peach juice 3 tbsp lemon soda 3 tbsp grenadine Ice

instructions Step 1 - In this order, fill a highball glass with ice, orange juice, peach juice then lemon soda. Step 2 - Add grenadine syrup. It will sink to the bottom then rise to the top as you drink. Step 3 - Garnish with cherries and orange slices. Enjoy.

I love hearing about innovation, and I’m so inspired by people in our state. This issue had several examples of this, including ivclub, Gist Wine Shop, and Arctic Sombrero. Jenny Haiar created a unique experience to hydrate and rejuvenate you (with snacks and beverages available). Mel Guse rebranded her former successful business and conceptualized a custom sommelier experience (on site or at home). Ron Heiman spent years inventing a way to keep your drinks cooler (and incognito, to boot). The energy seems to continue to buzz and rebuild in South Dakota going into a summer with a fresh start, and I’m excited to see where it continues to go.

When I saw The Butterfly House & Aquarium in our content plan for this month, I was quick to volunteer myself to write that article and be involved every step of the way. I’ve loved it there since my grandma began taking me when I was just a pigtailed little girl. Hearing about the ambitious expansion and spending time with the creatures there gave me so much anticipation for their future—and for mine as a frequent visitor and lover of all things Butterfly House. I think I’m most excited for being able to give pets to the cownose stingrays again when the pandemic lifts, and the possibility of adding sharks to what I lovingly refer to as the “water-dog” tank is so exhilarating. by Dawn Geertsema When The Butterfly House opened in 2002, it was a butterfly conservatory with a huge lobby and a comparably sized gift shop. Come 2010, the nonprofit was facing funding struggles. “The butterfly house alone was not enough for us to be able to sustain operations,” explained CEO Audrey Otto.

So when some aquarium hobbyists approached her offering to donate various aquariums, Otto jumped at the chance. “So many people thought, ‘Butterflies and aquariums, that’s a weird combination.’ But for us, we saw that connection with the tiny things in nature that you don’t really think a lot about that are so important like pollinators, coral reefs, and jellyfish,” she said. After adding the marine life, the now-Butterfly House & Aquarium saw an attendance increase of 90%, saving the organization.

EMERGING FROM THE CHRYSALIS “It was a really good combination for us, and we found very quickly that there was a major need in Sioux Falls for this that wasn’t getting fulfilled,” said Otto.

During pandemic-free times, one touch tank is open to allow for visitors to learn about Pacific tide pool creatures. A larger pool typically offers up the opportunity to pet cownose or southern rays.

Guests can see jellyfish, seahorses, corals, tropical fish from the IndoPacific and Caribbean, and more.

“[Cownose rays] tend to swim together, be on the move constantly, so they make great touch pool exhibits because they come to the top, they like to see what’s going on, and they’re naturally curious,” explained Otto.

But it took even more effort than she imagined. “When we actually started doing it, we had to get a chemist, a biologist, a physicist, a plumber, and an engineer—all of these skills that come together,” she said.

She notes that the touch pools are closed right now because hand sanitizer can be deadly to marine life.

With every animal as healthy as can be, Otto says they prioritize having interactive exhibits. “We added the interactive exhibits because we know that whether you’re an adult or a kid, if you’re touching and interacting with what you’re learning about, you’re going to learn better, retain that information, and connect with that animal or that habitat more than if you were just listening to someone talk about it or watching it on TV,” she said.

SPREADING WINGS “Butterflies have always been the key thing that we do,” said Otto. “This is such a magical experience.” With sun streaming down through the glass roof, roughly 800 butterflies float through the air, right over the heads of those traversing the paths. “The way it’s built encourages the butterflies to fly around and land on you,” said Otto. And with a small extra charge, guests can pick up a fake flower, have a volunteer spritz it with orange Gatorade, and watch as the butterflies land right in front of them. With a gazebo and a few benches scattered around, there’s plenty of opportunity to sit and enjoy the insects. On one wall, guests can watch as butterflies emerge and begin to spread their wings, ready to live their 2-4-week-long life spans out in the conservatory.

60 SPECIES OF BUTTERFLIES Of the about 60 species of butterflies found in the conservatory, Otto says none of them are native to this area to prevent various population issues. The species at The Butterfly House come from Central and South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

TAKING FLIGHT Now, 11 years after adding the aquatic habitats, it’s time to expand again. But this time, the building itself will be growing along with the exhibits.

From there, there will be two tide pools, a behind-the-scenes viewing station, a predatory reef, and more.

“A lot of people said we couldn’t do it, but we did. And now we’re ready to add on,” she said.

Otto added, “We want more behind-the-scenes to help people understand not only what it takes to have what we have here, but also to inspire the next generation of scientists and marine biologists.”

With the diagram ready to tack on a perimeter of more space comes plenty of plans for additional wildlife to watch. “A larger facility will allow us to do more with exhibits, programming, and also build behind the scenes, so our staff can do their jobs the way they’re meant to and not in a renovated gift shop,” said Otto. As laid out in the plan, a new facility would start with a connections gallery, showing how the butterflies and marine life connect to that of the Midwest and the Big Sioux River.

She said she’s really excited about adding to the interactive experiences, like a shrimp feeding pool, expanding the stingray exhibit to include sharks, a turtle feeding pond, and classrooms. In about a year, construction should start, and the year following should unveil the new and improved Dakota Aquarium & Butterfly House.

A Rental Close to Home

The 605 cabin by Dawn Geertsema “Over the last decade of traveling for work, we’ve stayed everywhere from hotels, to glamping, to Airbnbs of all styles,” said 605 Magazine’s director of operations and co-founder, Alana Snyder. “We hadn’t seen anything with a modern, South Dakota theme, and so we wanted to really have fun doing that with the build of our cabin and the local décor inside.” T H E S U M M E R I S S U E june 2 021

Alana and her husband John, 605’s marketing and event manager, were spending time showing the Black Hills to John’s parents from Philadelphia when they really began noticing the “gorgeous land” from a different perspective. “We’ve always been in love with the Black Hills,” said Alana, though this time they were looking at it for a different reason. “I grew up going to Rapid City often to visit my grandparents and family, and we would always explore and create so many memories there.” Soon after exploring the area like tourists with John’s family, they took the plunge and purchased land that’s a short drive from Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, and Lead.

Construction on the 605 Cabin began in 2019 and finished in April 2021. “We really wanted to welcome people from around the state and people new to the state into a ‘home away from home’ that showcased local art, bright and airy vibes, and all of the amenities you would hopefully need to relax and take time away from real life,” explained Alana. Feeling inspired by the surrounding trees, John chose to make the exterior of the home dark with a deep green door. While John focused on the modern exterior, Alana spent time putting together the inside with help from their hired builder.

“I feel like cabins are a time to unplug, and everyone needs that in their life now and then.” -Alana Snyder “Our builder, Brandon Voss of Voss Custom Homes in Spearfish, made the whole process so easy and fun,” said Alana. “He did everything from creating our dream cabin to helping us build the bunk bed, since I’m definitely lacking talent on that end.” Entering the 605 Cabin, guests are met with views of endless trees and Black Hills beauty painting the landscape beyond the large living room windows. “A huge point for us was windows,” said Alana. “We wanted the white walls to create a blank canvas for the real centerpiece: nature.”

The sitting area is topped off with a wood-burning fireplace. To the right, the open-concept floor plan leads into the pristine white kitchen and flows into the dining room from there. The kitchen was brought together with the help and white cabinets of Showplace Cabinetry and Cambria countertops by Creative Surfaces. Since they settled on the idea of building a cabin, Alana has been picking out various furniture and décor items that she fell in love with for the space over the years.

Two bedrooms, a sitting area, and an additional bathroom downstairs bring the cabin to a total of three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms.

The 605 Cabin intends to share 605 Magazine’s knowledge and focus on South Dakota with tourists.

With the full-sized bunk bed and twin trundle, a queen-sized bed, and a king in the master, the cabin sleeps 8-10 with the addition of the pullout sofa.

Brian Bieber by Dawn Geertsema For 18 months, Brian Bieber traveled between six states interviewing musicians who were active about 40 years ago in an attempt to hear their stories. The following 10 months of editing and producing with his wife Brienne Maner brought forth I Really Get

Into It, a documentary about the rise of the Sioux Falls punk scene in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. “This is a story about young people who couldn’t find a place for themselves in the dominant culture, so they created their own,” explained Bieber.

He continued, “A handful of the people I interviewed were former Sioux Falls promoter and musician Terry Taylor, punk icon Ian MacKaye, Lookout! I Really Get Into It didn’t start as a documentary… it

started as a website, collecting and digitizing analog recordings from the early days of the Sioux Falls all-ages scene. Somehow, that turned into a movie.

Something I learned during this process was… what every editor and filmmaker I know told me from the beginning: “fixing it in post” seems like a good idea when you’re shooting, but it should always be your last option.

My favorite way to spend my leisure time is… at the zoo with my wife and daughter or at an early bird weekend matinee, usually by myself.

Something that was difficult to do with the documentary was… manage my

time. My wife and I have a very young daughter, so most of the film’s editing started after her bedtime and went into the wee hours, long after mine.

Viewers are going to witness… a lot of smart, interesting people, a lot of cool archival footage, and a lot of great music.

I collaborated with… a variety of people to bring the

movie to life. Hanna Peterson created incredible artwork for the home release, Nate Jedlicka created a really fun animated sequence, and a lot of smart people very generously took the time to give me notes on early cuts of the film.

My favorite part of the documentary is… Rebecca Hanten discussing her

experience being a prominent musician as a young woman, and realizing in retrospect the impact her presence on stage might have had on her young fans. A close second is Larry Livermore’s story of having to restrain Ben Weasel from attacking Wilbur the Coyote at Gigglebees Family Fun Center.

What I loved about putting together I Really Get Into It was… reconnecting with so many people I hadn’t seen in years, and befriending new ones that I wish I had met years ago.

When I walk around downtown, one of my favorite places to stop by is… Zandbroz Variety. Zandbroz has been the coolest place downtown for three decades and counting, and it’s run by some of the coolest people in town.

My favorite place to go for inspiration is… the car,

probably. My 3-year-old daughter makes sure that the energy level in our house stays pretty consistently high, so I’m quick to volunteer to run our household errands and use those minutes to clear my head when I’m working out a new idea.

One thing I love about South Dakota is… there are a lot of

by Dawn Geertsema When Ramiro Nino opened the sports-themed restaurant he’d been dreaming about for years this February, he didn’t know what to expect. But he says Bro Brgr Bar in downtown Yankton has received a lot of love from the community despite every obstacle he’d been running through his head. “The support’s been amazing,” said Nino as he reflected on the few months the bar has been open. “Everyone I talk to has been here three, four, five times.” T H E S U M M E R I S S U E june 2 021

Upon entering the building, guests are met with framed jerseys from various sports and time periods, a long bar, and other sports memorabilia speckled throughout the space.

For their main meal, guests get to pick and choose from 17 specially designed burgers, a handful of hot dogs, and a few salads.

Once they’ve been seated in the dimmed lighting, they can decide to go for any of three appetizers. But Nino says the most popular is a classic.

“The main thing I didn’t want to do was have something that somebody else had,” said Nino about choosing the menu items. “My creative side came out a little more there.”

“In the Wisconsin Cheese Curds, we have three different flavors: original, garlic, and jalapeño,” said Nino, explaining that there’s something for everyone’s tastes.

“The 605 Brgr is probably our most popular one,” said Nino. “It’s American Angus beef, smoked brisket that’s chopped and seasoned, fried onion, smoked gouda, and a sweet barbecue sauce.”

Another fan favorite is the Ante Meridiem Brgr. This patty is paired with smashed tots, bacon, fried egg, maple aioli, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Though he says he likes them all, Nino prefers the Ghost Brgr with its combination of roasted red pepper, ghost pepper cheese, ghost pepper aioli, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. “I’d have to say I like spicy food, so I really like the Ghost Brgr,” explained Nino. “It has a lot of sting to it.” Every burger is served on a brioche bun with a side of fries that can be upgraded to tater tots, fried pickles, or onion rings. No matter the burger, it automatically comes with one ¼ pound patty, but it doesn’t have to be that way. “Depending on how hungry you are or how many beers you want, you can make it a single, double, or a triple,” said Nino. Beef isn’t for everybody, so Nino made sure to offer a few chicken options as well as salads and hot dogs.

The Chipotle Chicken Brgr comes topped with provolone, avocado, bacon, chipotle aioli, lettuce, and tomato. “The inspiration for the Cali Street Dog was just what the title says,” explained Nino. “California is famous for taco trucks and hot dogs.” On the dog, guests will bite into a bacon-wrapped frank, sauteed onions and peppers, mayo, mustard, and ketchup. Some people may defer to something with a little more green, such as the Wedge Salad. The blend comes with iceberg lettuce, blue cheese dressing and crumbles, tomato, bacon, and scallions. And if there’s still room for dessert, it can’t hurt to give the housemade, jumbo cookies a try. Throughout every meal, Nino said he hopes people will just talk and spend time together. “This had been a bar for a lot of years,” said Nino. “I didn’t want to take that out of it, but I also wanted it to be a place where a family could come in and lean more toward food rather than beer.”

The president of Sioux Falls-based Heiman Fire Equipment has dabbled in a handful of businesses, and is now officially in the tumbler industry. “I’m an engineer by trade, so I started coming up with some blueprints on bar napkins,” he said. “Like, ‘Here’s what we can do and what we can’t do.’ That’s how it all developed.”

What is now Arctic Sombrero started out as a passion project with Heiman and his brother-in-law, Kris Breien. The inspiration? Simply wanting a way to keep their drinks ice cold and concealed for a multitude of reasons. Some of those included family commitments, like sports games and days by the pool. And while the end result was for fun, it took five years of hard work. “We’ve come up with 10 different renditions of it—maybe 20 or 30, even,” he recalled. “I’ve got a closet of 3D models we’ve done. You come up with something really good, and you can’t manufacture it, or you can’t manufacture it efficiently. Then you have to go back to the drawing board.” After years of research and testing, the pair landed on a custom lid that would fit a stainless steel 30-ounce tumbler. Products can be purchased as both the lid and tumbler together and also as the solo lid for the customer’s personal tumbler of choice. The lid works by clipping to 12 ounce cans of any beverage, which are then placed into the tumbler surrounded by a chamber of chilled water.

The customer can drink anything from a seltzer to an IPA to whatever they desire from one side of the lid, and on the other side is a hole for a straw to consume the iced water that’s also keeping the can frosty cold.

“We were out with my wife and some friends, and she came up with Arctic Sombrero,” he said.

“You can have two drinks in one without diluting the other. We came up with something that should be pretty impregnable, in the United States anyway,” said Heiman, who also mentioned the product has a utility patent and is in the midst of a design patent.

The product recently launched online and already has had orders from retailers like JJ’s Wine, Spirits, & Cigars and select Scheels and Ace Hardware locations. Artistic Sombrero also recently tied for third place at the 2021 Governor’s Giant Vision Competition in late April, hosted by the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Along with prototypes, the team went through plenty of names for the product. A few included Ice Dunk, Beer Snorkel, Drip Tap, Frosty Paw, and Can Squid. Just like its inception, the name came up casually.

“The original idea was to build a Shopify site and work out the kinks slowly,” he recalled. “Now it’s starting to pick up. We’re pivoting every day.”

Ron also owns Sherpa Wheels, which is a heavy-duty cart designed primarily for Yeti coolers.

Heiman says the company tries to stay as local as possible, including having printing done by Panther Graphics in Sioux Falls and production by Falcon Plastics in Brookings. “Everything we do is in South Dakota. I want to do everything here,” he said. “I want to just make America a little better and bring jobs back here. No reason to bring that anywhere else.” His family is also heavily involved, with contributions including the Arctic Sombrero logo created by his godchild, and a packaging assembly line of sorts being operated by his three children. “At night, they’ll come in and we’ll put the O-rings on and the gasket,” he said. “We’re making boxes and bagging them.” Heiman joked that he pays them in “food and lodging.” “I’ll come home and [my daughter] Amy will be like, ‘What’d we sell today, Dad?’ And we’ll go through our sale sheet. They’re interested in the business and the whole process.” His children offer a prime example of how Arctic Sombrero is for more than alcoholic beverages, mentioning they love using it for soda, like 7-Up. “The whole can might last a day, but it stays cold all day,” said Heiman. “Your last drink will be colder than your first; I can tell you that.”

But owners Stacey and Daniel Berry are preparing their East Bank Depot taproom for the best summer yet, scheduling many events and meals while preparing for their on-year anniversary. “We’re looking forward to increased activity this summer,” said Stacey. “We’ve got food trucks coming and music coming. Our patio is ready to go. It’s going to be good.” As summer begins to roll in, Stacey says she is excited to see a rainbow of people come into the taproom and find which beer fits their fancy. “Sours and wild ales will probably always be our niche, our thing, but we’ve definitely expanded and want people to know we do other things as well,” said Stacey. Though they’re known mostly for their sours, Stacey emphasizes that they also do IPAs, stouts, pastry stouts, pilsners, and even Belgian blonde ales. “We really do have something for everyone,” she said. So with their pride flag hung and even a modified logo to support the movement, Covert is ready to invite people in with open arms. “We just want people to know that it’s a safe space.” And with each stop in, beer enthusiasts can find a new favorite. “We have a different model than a lot of the other breweries,” said Daniel. “We don’t have mainstays. Our menu is always changing.” The brewery focuses mostly on small batches of a few barrels at a time. “Since we do a lot of fruit combinations, we change it up quite often,” said Daniel. “I don’t think we’ve ever done the same beer within the same year.” +

fter owning GYST Fermentation Bar in Minneapolis since 2014, Mel Guse found herself back in her hometown of Sioux Falls to rebrand and reopen as Gist Wine Shop. “The concept has always been in the back of my mind from my previous experience,” said the owner and sommelier. “Because the laws in Minneapolis are very different from what they are here, you can’t really serve wine and sell wine in the same space with the same walls and doors. So we did more of a wine bar.”

She continued, “The wine shop was always there. It was always an idea to have smaller grower-producers doing wines in a much more natural fashion and working with people whom I personally know in the business.”

“Our focus [at the wine shop is] a little more on new California wines, Oregon wines, and more on this idea of natural wines,” she described. “Indigenous yeast fermentation; low-intervention wine making. Just wines that tell a story, have a personality, and have a person behind it.”

The new 11th Street location is in the former Sioux Falls Design Center, and Guse says they carry around 200-225 wines that aren’t typically found in the area.

Guse and her team act as wine stewards to walk anyone through price points, what they like, and what they might not even know they’re looking for.

“The goal for us is to understand what you’re looking for and try to put you in the same price point and flavor profile,” she said. “If you’re interested and not quite sure, we’re happy to open it. If you want to buy it, great, if not, we’ll sell it by the glass.” The shop has an intimate section of tables to sit down and enjoy an option of rotating wines by the glass. Specialty retail items are also available for snacking both on site and on the go.

“There’s anything for a Spanish tapas night, nuts, or a cheese and charcuterie to grab and go,” she said. “You’re also welcome to bring in food to go with your wine.”

Gist Wine Shop will launch a wine club this month that’s customized to the client for their tastes and palates. Members fill out a questionnaire to start the process, and Guse will set up a 15-minute consultation to learn more about what the person would like to receive in the monthly subscription of three to six bottles. “I want to get to know you. If you’re a seasonal drinker, if you want more whites and rosés in the summer to more reds and different ones around the holidays,” she said. “I can cater to learning more about that.”

“I had a lot of things in place for it. We had legal already. We had a physician,” recalled Haiar. “You need a nurse, and I was one, so I knew how to do everything. We started the process and all the formation of it took about a year, year and a half because the state didn’t know what it was.” Places like New York City and Las Vegas had elective IV services, and Haiar says some people labeled it as fixing hangovers. Which, in short, it does—among many other things. “There’s a lot of things as a nurse that you see: pregnant women, marathon athletes... It’s fluids that fix [various issues],” she said. “When I first started it, bigger cities provided it, and those places marketed it as a hangover cure, which it is. I think it’s more beneficial as a health and wellness maintenance.”

“ivclub will be one of the first services up and operating,” said Haiar. “We’ll have a workout facility, we’ll have a bar, a coffee shop.” The mansion-esque building will have services like an adult-only fullservice spa, on-site board rooms for business rentals, an outpatient lab, a full-service inpatient hospitalist program, telemedicine, infectious disease, an on-site pharmacy, and more. “With the new building, the ivclub area is going to be very catered to that bougee feel. Right now we’re so limited on space it’s been hard,” she said. “We plan on having more offerings, like doing smoothies to coincide with the infusions.” She continued, “You can sit up and do an oxygen bar while you’re getting an infusion. We’ll have an area with more of a lounge feel around a fireplace. It’ll be like a coffee shop and you can choose the vibe you want to sit in.”

The ivclub sees patients for a wide range of reasons, including dehydration, GI malabsorption issues, and migraines. Haiar says what was really important to her was to make the option quick and affordable.

Alex Velgersdyk, RN-BSN, greeted us and the team of nurses took us back to the ivclub room with a handful of chairs. We were delighted to see bowls of snacks and a drink menu. As we got settled, we were handed a mimosa.

“People with migraines don’t want to have to go to the ER and pay a copay of $300. And on top of that, they have to convince the doc to do it in the ER. It increases the cost of healthcare,” she said.

“Here, you can have mine,” said Taylor as she handed me her drink and grabbed Pringles instead.

They even have services for premenstrual syndrome (PMS). “We have a PMS mix so that if people have really bad PMS symptoms we can help with that,” said Haiar. Fellow 605 staffer Taylor Hanson and I went the dehydration and hangover route, and went out the night before we stopped by the ivclub. Many seltzers had been had, and even though we’re terrified of needles, we were ready.

Well, if the opportunity presents itself, I’ll do what I must. We both signed a waiver, which Haiar says is primarily because it’s elective. “It’s like skydiving. I know what I want, and I’m going to sign a waiver for it,” she said. While a common fear is the needle aspect of it, Haiar says it’s more like a selfcare, spa treatment that should be enjoyable and not scary.

Lindsay Willers Amber Blom by Dawn Geertsema

It began with fireworks. “We started with Fourth of July apparel because we saw a need for classy patriotic items that we actually wanted to wear,” said Lindsay Willers. She and her best friend Amber Blom started selling apparel for the holiday on Etsy, and they wanted to come up with a catchy name. T H E S U M M E R I S S U E june 2 021

“We have an office in South Dakota and in Arizona,” explained Blom. “We picked two prominent features of both and came up with the name, Cows and Cacti.” The online apparel shop offers seasonal collections of shirts, pins, hats, and more. They say that after their patriotic apparel was a hit, they created lines of bridal, bachelorette, and South Dakota pieces. Now their styles cater to the Midwest as a whole, and their newest Fourth of July collection just launched at the end of May. “As COVID hit last year, the experiential industry took a hit, and as a result [we] made the decision to put time and energy into Cows and Cacti,” the entrepreneurs said. In 2020, they branched off of Etsy to start their own ecommerce business and website, still across the country from one another. Blom lived down in Arizona while Willers set up camp in Sioux Falls. In February 2021, Blom moved back to South Dakota to work closer to Willers and focus on the company.

Together, they balance out the brunt of the work with Blom working the production side and modeling, while Willers lets her creative mind roam. “We are very particular about quality and design. Every piece you see has been carefully selected and uniquely designed by us,” said Blom. Outside of the website, the pair also offers direct-to-garment printing, design services, and full-service screen printing. “This past fall we launched the wholesale side to our business and now provide wholesale options for numerous retailers across the Midwest,” said Blom. The pair shared with 605 some of their favorite ways to spend time together.

Willers has a husband and three daughters.

Blom did fitness modeling for about five years and worked with a professional fitness photographer as his production manager. She’s comfortable on set, so she says it’s been fun to use that experience and model Cows and Cacti apparel.

Blom and Willers designed and printed the apparel for Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken’s 100 Miles in 100 Days initiative. Through this opportunity, the pair provided participants and supporters with commemorative shirts and donated over $4,600 to the community.

Blom loves to travel. Over New Years, she and a friend traveled to Ireland, rented a car, and drove across the country.

Willers has a passion for all things design. By trade, she’s an experiential 3D designer and creative director who designs experiences for high-end brands such as Mercedes-Benz, AnheuserBusch, Hilton, and more.

605 Magazine Summer Issue Pale Ale by Alana Snyder For the past several years, Fernson Brewing Company in Sioux Falls and Lost Cabin Beer Co. in Rapid City have collaborated with 605 Magazine to create the 605 Magazine Summer Issue beer. The beer, which is sold exclusively at Fernson and Lost Cabin brewery locations, launches on 605 Day, which is June 5. After a virtual hiatus in 2020, the 605 team is joining both breweries once again to have 605 Day celebrations on both sides of the state from 4-6 p.m. (MST and CST). Try South Dakota trivia, win or purchase South Dakota swag, grab some grub, and sip on this year’s pale ale with honey. But before the event, get to know the beer behind it all.
