Never fear, because 605 Weddings is here with South Dakota vendors all across the state. Whether it’s a huge, elegant blowout, or an elopement in the Black Hills, this issue has something for everyone.

MULTIMEDIA EDITOR + PHOTOGRAPHER

A lot has changed in the wedding world since I tied the knot back in 2014. As a wedding photographer, seeing the newest styles sometimes leaves me wishing I could go back and incorporate them retroactively into my nuptials. My favorite trend that society has embraced the last few years is micro weddings. What could be more meaningful than celebrating with your dearest loved ones in an intimate, beautiful venue like Convolo? I'll take quality over quantity any day!

BEHIND THE SCENES Cover Shoot

605 assembled a group of talented local wedding vendors for this year’s 605 Weddings cover shoot at Convolo in downtown Sioux Falls. Katie Murphy, CEO and cofounder of Jane Rae Events, and her team put together a mood board dubbed “coastal grandmother” with Hampton vibes and a coastal color palette.

“In my opinion, ‘coastal grandmother’ is the incorporation and appreciation of natural elements,” said Ashley Anderson, event manager at Jane Rae Events.

“Light wood, rattan, whimsical floral patterns, and overall understated elegance. The blues and the soft yellows fit perfectly into this elegant romance without being bold or overpowering, and yet still making a powerful statement.”

10 | twenty twenty two
605 Weddings
Dusty blue is trending again as is the coastal grandmother theme, which is really popular in home décor this year, We wanted to incorporate both of those in this design.“
605weddings.com | 11

The crew knew they wanted to do something with heavy floral, and Anderson says they currently are loving dusty blue. They adorned the florals on a newer rental item, which was a modern gateway arch.

“Both the structure and the coloring of the light wood lent itself perfectly to what we needed for the fresh florals,” said Anderson.

“The large installation was designed to be quite a statement piece while also framing our couple and really just providing a backdrop for the two of them.”

The Jane Rae Events team spent a few hours carefully installing each floral and greenery into place, and Murphy says the end result was worth every minute.

“My favorite part about the shoot is taking a big step back, actual steps, to view what we have been working on and appreciate it,” said Murphy. “Sometimes when working on a project you can get caught up in the little gritty details. Taking a moment to readjust your perspective can help you realize the beauty is done and to be in awe of your work and team.”

One of our favorite parts about being in the event industry and owning a venue is collaborating with the community and witnessing all of the magic that happens within the walls of Convolo.

Partnering with other vendors and creatives and working together towards a shared vision is always an inspiring process for us.”

14 | twenty twenty two

Amy Boes, co-owner of the modern and minimalistic event venue Convolo, says the cover styled shoot was a great way to showcase the elegant, yet simple space they can help create for couples and groups of all kinds.

“Convolo was designed with an elevated simplicity that makes the space unique, but still subtle enough to be versatile for styled shoots and hosted events,” said Boes. “Jane Rae [Events] always has such a beautiful vision that complements our space so well, and the other vendors involved know just how to provide the right touch to bring everything together.”

“The use of the fresh vine gave the look of natural growth, but trust me, every leaf and stem was placed with intention.”

Megan Bertsch of Megan Bertsch Beauty specializes in HD airbrush makeup, and also wanted to go for a glamorous, yet timeless look.

“I knew I wanted to go super clean and elegant with the beauty, so the cover would really stand the test of time and my brides could put themselves in our gorgeous model’s shoes,” said Bertsch.

Murphy says styled shoots are “freeing” to be able to collaborate and design something that they all envision together.

“Styled shoot days are always this mix of relaxed creativity,” said Murphy. “Typically, you are always against a strong clock on the day of an event. With a styled shoot, we usually have more time to create and spend time with great vendors while doing so.”

Match made in heaven

The Canton Barn & Ellie Stone Bride

The Canton Barn opened its doors as a venue for weddings and other events in Canton in 2016. Not long after, owners Kalli and Tim Blackstone added Ellie Stone Bride in Sioux Falls as a local wedding vendor, too.

“We will do everything in our power to make their experience memorable,” said Kalli. “We have the best in the industry working at Ellie Stone Bride and the Canton Barn.”

The Canton Barn

“The Canton Barn is an original 105-year-old barn that has been fully renovated with all the bells and whistles, while staying true to honor the original history and charm,” said Kalli.

At the venue, Kalli says they operate by a motto: “your day, your way.”

“We become invested in our couples and will do what we can to make their day as special as they envisioned,” she said.

The barn has space for up to 300 guests inside the loft or 72 on the main level.

"We all understand how special a wedding is and we will help in any way we can. We are always accessible."
Kalli Blackstone

“The Canton Barn has a sound system that covers the entire venue,” said Kalli. “We have wireless mics, a projector, and a screen.”

Booking the venue includes the loft, main floor, covered patio, gazebo, shuttle bus, bar, bridal suite, fire pit, and more.

“We also have many outdoor photo ops, so they can take all pictures on site: including a 100-year-old silo, wagon wheel fence, old truck, beautiful trees and sunsets, and gorgeous grounds,” said Kalli.

For those interested in bringing every member of the family, even the furry ones, the Canton Barn is also pet friendly.

“In 2017, we purchased an existing bridal store in Sioux Falls and knew we immediately had to make some major changes, starting with the name change,” said Kalli.

The couple lovingly named the store after their granddaughter. The store relocated about a year later to their current location near 69th and Western in Sioux Falls.

“At Ellie Stone Bride, we offer bridal and bridesmaid gowns, accessories, and in-house alterations,” said Kalli.

Entering the store, brides and their entourage come face to face with racks and racks of white and cream gowns placed delicately on hangers.

Name a style, and Ellie Stone Bride might just have the perfect gown.

Wedding Planning Advice from Kalli

When booking with the Canton Barn, the bride receives 10% off any full-priced gown at Ellie Stone Bride.

To be as size inclusive as possible, Kalli says Ellie Stone Bride offers sizes zero to 32.

“At Ellie Stone Bride, we understand there are different body shapes, likes, and dislikes,” said Kalli. “We see the beauty in every bride who walks through our door and will do our best to find the right option for her.”

To make sure every bride knows this, there’s a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald that Kalli is fond of: “She was beautiful, deep down to her soul.”

“We try to make every gal who walks in feel and see the beauty within,” said Kalli. “We listen to their likes and dislikes and try to make them feel comfortable and their experience a great one.”

To top off the perfect bridal look, browse everything from jewelry and hairpieces to veils and capes.

ABC RENTALS

605 Stops

30 | twenty twenty
two Kadence + Cole Photo and Films

When ABC Rentals started in Sioux Falls in 2002 as a familyowned one-stop rental shop, the company soon realized they needed two locations based on demand. ABC Rentals Special Events launched its second location on Phillips Avenue to focus solely on “all things weddings and events,” according to special events coordinator Jenna Heemstra

“Our mission here is to create great events, while also building great relationships,” she said.

Customer service is at the forefront of ABC Rentals Special Events, says Heemstra, especially because these moments are so important to clients.

“Our clients count on us to take care of them through the entire rental process, which includes initial questions about our rental offerings, how to go about renting different items, day-of questions when maybe something isn’t working as it should be, and then problem solving with them to fix it,” said Heemstra. “Then we follow-up with clients as the items are returned.”

Rentals include tents of all sizes, tables, chairs, dance floors, lounge furniture and loveseats, arches, linens, drapings and various backdrops, dishware, concession machines, table décor, and other various items. ABC Rentals Specials cover up to a five-hour radius from Sioux Falls.

605weddings.com | 31

Talk to an ABC Rentals specialist.

“We cover all of South Dakota, northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, southeast North Dakota, and northeast Nebraska,” said Heemstra.

Newer trends the company has seen since COVID-19 are couples having weekday weddings and also couples having small, intimate weddings and receptions.

“We always ask our clients what kind of event they are having, and it’s been surprising to see how many weddings have been on a Monday or Wednesday,” said Heemstra.

A popular rental has been a tent with clear tops and walls, going for more of a “greenhouse vibe.”

One thing Heemstra recommends is to give guests something to do during cocktail hour.

“It can really set your event apart. We offer a wide variety of yard games that just add something extra to the day,” said Heemstra. “Even adding some of our concession machines to your event for hors d’oeuvres can add an extra fun element to the night. Guests will remember if you had cotton candy or snow cones for them to snack on.”

Not sure what you need?
32 | twenty twenty two

When clients visit the ABC Rentals Special Events showroom, they can choose different tiers for their package. They can choose to pick up and return items on their own, or they can hire ABC Rentals for delivery, setup, teardown, and pick up.

“There really isn’t a limit as to what we will set up,” said Heemstra. “If you need us to do a full set-up for your event, like setting up tables, chairs, linens, décor, etc., we can do that.”

Along with weddings, ABC Rentals also works often with companies like Sanford Health

“We’ve done a lot of ground breaking to grand opening events. The Sanford International PGA Tour week has always been a favorite,” said Heemstra. “It’s just been really cool to see the vision that they have for many of their events and then being able to execute it for them.”

Heemstra says one of the team’s favorite moments is seeing the images of events afterwards, since the day-of they’re busy with setup.

“I work as the special events coordinator. That title does come with a few different hats as I help with sales, event planning and meeting with clients, setting up events, getting rental orders ready, and pulling for clients to pick up, inventory maintenance, and marketing/social media.”

“It's always a lot of fun getting to see pictures afterwards of how the couple’s vision all came together once all the décor is put together,” said Heemstra. “It’s very rewarding to know that we were a part of that vision and that our clients trust us to help execute it.”

When it comes to what the client envisions and orders, ABC Rentals says they’ll make sure to follow through.

“We are a company that will always provide what we say we are going to provide,” said Heemstra. “If you reserve rentals through us, you can be confident that we are going to have those items available for your event.” FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT ABCRENTALSMIDWEST. COM.

Jess Bowman of J. Bowman Photography strives to make her clients feel comfortable and that their wedding day is stress free and full of fun.

For newlyweds, Kristin and John, it was important that she captured them in a comfortable and beautiful way.

John and Kristin met on a dating website, but it was not the first time they had seen each other. Kristin secretly had her eye on John after noticing him at the gym they both frequented. There was immediate chemistry between the two and she says it led to a peaceful, beautiful, yet adventurous relationship.

“Kristin enjoys doing everything new and exciting and John enjoys doing anything and everything that she likes to do! It’s a perfect match,” said Bowman.

Kristin and John celebrated with an outdoor ceremony at The Veranda by Meadow Barn in Harrisburg

Details included rustic centerpieces, elegant floral arrangements, and family heirlooms.

“One thing I love seeing at weddings is when couples incorporate family heirlooms into their big day,” said Bowman. “Their cake topper has been used in John’s family for generations, and was first used in 1963.”

The day was full of favorable moments, including a surprise Kristin had for her father. For their father/ daughter dance, a friend performed a live mashup of old country songs that she and her father had listened to when she was growing up.

For Bowman, her favorite moment was being able to sneak away with the bride and groom to capture dreamy sunset photos.

“They are both such amazingly sweet and funny people,” said Bowman. “We were laughing and having such a blast and the photos turned out stunning.”

Barry

and Jordan Taylor, the owners and creative minds behind Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen and Pizza Cheeks, found they were getting an overwhelming amount of requests for catering.

“They used to get a lot of catering requests, and up until that point they couldn’t handle them all,” said En Place Catering catering director Jacob Marek . “It became apparent that we were running out of physical space just in the back, not including the product in the walk-in, but physical space with bodies in the kitchen, trying to chop and prep sauces, and the mise en place.”

“Mise en place” is a French culinary phrase that Marek describes as “everything in its place or everything has a

place,” and this inspired what is now En Place Catering. Though the production and culinary mise en place happens in the kitchen at 818 East 8th Street in downtown Sioux Falls, Marek says the collaborative team uses this as a mantra in both the front and back of house.

“Whether it’s [catering coordinator] Claire Litzen and myself having everything in our place, we are very organized, and so it’s just like being able to pick and pull the things that we need for every event,” said Marek. “Each event is different, but we can modify a menu that we use one time, like, ‘People love that vanilla pork loin,’ so we incorporate that into future events. We’re picking and pulling from our own mise en place, like making this process seamless for everyone else.”

605weddings.com | 47
Putzke

The En Place Catering team helps couples from the beginning to the end, and it all starts with brainstorming a custom menu at the initial consultation. A set list of questions is given to the client for feedback and to help the creativity flow.

Litzen explained, “It’s like, ‘Okay great, thank you, we are going to head in this direction,’ and then I send them what is essentially a rough draft and go, ‘Here is a menu for you, what do we like, what don’t we like, what do we want to add, do we want to subtract anything, all of the above?”

Marek says they take what the client wants and make sure to put their upscale culinary twist on it. Catering with En Place can come in many forms, including plated meals, buffets, and hor d'oeuvres. Even the Taco Bar has its own spin by the company with fresh, locally-made corn tortillas and housemade chips by Tortilleria Hernandez in downtown Sioux Falls.

“We have heard from a lot of people that what they are seeing from us is just something elevated that they’re not accustomed to at other weddings,” said Marek. “We just put a little culinary finesse on it.”

And it’s this finesse that makes an impact at events.

“People remember food at weddings,” said Litzen. “They either remember that they didn’t enjoy their meal, or they remember that they loved their meal.”

The team is also there to help guide the client, like recommending the right quantities for the guest count.

“[The couple] may not necessarily have a wedding planner, and so we become that person that is able to take a very complex get-it-right moment that you get one chance at and try to absorb the worry and the concern from them,” said Litzen. “It can be intimidating, because you’re already nervous as is and, then you’re like, ‘Is a caterer going to remember forks? Are they going to show up on time?’ We try to make it as uncomplicated as possible.”

“ We all need each other. That is the best part about our whole team is we all need each other. We each bring something different.”

For the En Place Catering team, they say relationships are just as important as the food.

“Just this morning I was over at The Breaks [Coffee Roasting Co.] grabbing coffee and I ran into one of our brides. She ran up to me and gave me a big hug. ‘How's wedding season going? Are you guys still busy?’ These relationships don’t just stop once we are done serving,” continued Lizen, “these relationships continue, and it’s not even just weddings. We are now seeing that we’re having clients who are booking with us for a third or fourth time for various celebrations.”

It’s typical for them to receive rave reviews in person by guests of couples, too.

“Last week we had someone come up to us and say, ‘Oh my goodness, your guys’ meals that you did at the Gullickson wedding was amazing. Thank you so much,’” said Litzen.

“ It’s the experience. I know that sounds cliché, but we add a little extra surprise to every event we do. It’s all in the details."

It’s events like these and getting feedback that really drives the team, and Marek says he really enjoys seeing past and current clients all over.

What Rahel and Tyler thought was a random Tuesday turned into their forever.

“I went to 18th Amendment [in Sioux Falls] to meet a friend who was out with some of her coworkers, and Tyler was one of the coworkers,” recalled Rahel. “Tyler and I started talking and everyone ended up leaving without telling us. So I had to be his designated driver the first night we met.”

The pair has not stopped talking since, and knew early on they were the ones for each other.

Rahel and Tyler worked with Cactus Collective Weddings to achieve their simple and intimate wedding.

Lexi Erikson has had a long time love for flowers and says she knows the sentimental value they carry for others. Oftentimes they get tossed after drying out and turning brown, but Erikson’s flower loving heart had enough and in 2021 she created Trykket Flowers

The Sioux Falls based company allows its customers to preserve flowers and the memories they hold by creating pressed flower artwork.

It was not long before Erikson saw the impact her

“I heard, ‘I wish I knew you when I got married,’” said Erikson. “When I started pressing flowers, I quickly knew I wanted to make flower preservation available to others, and so hearing this comment over and over affirmed the desire to share what I do.”

the word ‘pressed’ in Norwegian. My greatgrandma was born in Norway and was brought to the United States as a newborn baby. I had the privilege of knowing her until she passed at 99 years old. Family is very important to me, and this name felt like a great way to honor my roots.

MY LOVE OF FLOWERS STEMMED FROM...

was being told that it was really special knowing that my work can both preserve new memories, as well as bring back cherished ones.

I disassemble a bouquet of fresh flowers, sort, and load them into my presses between paper and cardboard. The flowers dry over the course of three to six weeks and are then unloaded from my presses. Next, I work on creating an arrangement for the desired size. If it’s a project I’m doing for someone else, I send them an image of my draft arrangement for approval, and then I glue the arrangement together, scan it for my archives, and lastly, frame it.

An Iconic Team

ICON EVENT HALL

There’s no way around it–wedding planning can be exhausting. From the engagement to the big day, couples face the stress of budgeting, planning, booking, and organizing. But there’s a team in Sioux Falls that say they want to make your day smooth: the staff at Icon Event Hall

Icon Event Hall is also home to DaDa Gastropub, opened in 2020 and managed by Parker’s Restaurant Group. The restaurant, known for its local art and eclectic style, is an eatery and full-service bar in downtown.

Though separately they are an event center and a restaurant, together they form a full-service wedding venue, simply called Icon.

Icon offers a place to have a wedding ceremony and reception, dining, drinks, and dancing or entertainment. What’s more, each wedding at Icon is supported by a staff of committed professionals.

Icon Event Manager Nathan Sadler puts it this way: “Weddings at Icon are the complete package. We are personally invested in each of the weddings we host being an amazing experience.”

“We have a big, fun, and unique space that we’re able to work with for almost any kind of event.”

Icon offers three separate spaces that can be booked individually or together for a full venue event: The Event Hall, The Rock Garden Room, and Dada Gastropub.

Each space has its own strengths. The Event Hall is ideal for larger receptions, while the Rock Garden Room, with its private loft, is perfect for a more intimate ceremony. The Dada Gastropub side of Icon is unforgettable for drinks, dancing, and entertainment.

Any one of these venues can be reserved for your special day, but Icon manager Taylor Newcomb-Weiland highly recommends booking all three together.

“To be able to book Icon out in its entirety feels like a big flex,” she muses. “It feels exclusive, and you get top notch service and product along with it.”

Icon’s director of marketing Rebecca Squyer agrees, noting the venue’s versatility: “On one side you’re able to showcase a more traditional décor theme with brick and quartz, wood pillars, and warm lighting. On the other side you’re blasted with eccentric artwork, bright colors, and mixed media everywhere.”

Squyer says it’s impossible to be bored with the venue, and that there are so many possibilities for using the space.

Not only will Icon Events host your wedding, they’ll also cater it. As Newcomb-Weiland says, “If you want your event done right, you will feed your guests a good meal and they will talk about it for the next decade.”

The dining services focus on sourcing food of amazing quality, explains Newcomb-Weiland.

“Sauces and sides are made from scratch, veggies are made fresh, and if your budget allows, as local and as fresh of ingredients as possible,” she says, adding that the staff is extremely flexible and works with a wide range of budgets.

Additionally, Icon Events has their own liquor license–a rarity in the venue industry. Newcomb-Weiland notes that most couples have to outsource their products and the venue staff can only offer beer and wine.

At Icon Events, however, couples have an infinite amount of choices and a full bar. Additionally, bartender Paul Squyer often designs and customizes drink menus for clients.

Located in the heart of downtown Sioux Falls, Icon Events is an accessible destination for every stage of a wedding. Yet the venue is not just for weddings.

Newcomb-Weiland details a hypothetical week for the team: “We could have a 300 person event on a Wednesday followed by an intimate and labor intensive multi-course dinner on a Thursday, followed by a concert on a Friday, followed by a full venue wedding on a Saturday.”

While the events change with every week, something that will never change is the support that the staff offer for their clients.

“For the last 10 years, we have gone out of bounds for every event we host, and the only thing I want people to know is that we do it because we care,” says Newcomb-Weiland.

Hitched in the Hills

the farm house barn

The Farmhouse Barn is a modern, rustic Sturgis venue that started as just an idea between women sipping on cocktails.

“Two nurses who had a vision of building a venue that had the feel of a 100 year old barn,” said coowner Amy Gustafson.

The idea came from the desire to offer a gathering place for people to have fun and celebrate love.

“People should consider the Farmhouse Barn for its unique feel, down-to-earth service, and affordability,” said Gustafson.

Anyone booking the venue should expect to work directly with the owners from start to finish.

“Savannah and I are with our couples from the minute they inquire about hosting their special day at the Farmhouse Barn, all the way up to the actual day of their event,” she said.

The owners add that guests should never feel rushed during their time at the venue.

“We are interested in the couple and guests getting to enjoy their experience for two to three days,” said co-owner Savannah Horst. “It’s not a rush but more of an experience, and they can take in their special moment for a few days.”

The barn, which accommodates up to 266 inside, offers four package options. One option allows couples to choose two days between Monday and Thursday for their event. A second option spans Thursday to Friday, and a third spans Saturday to Sunday.

These three packages allow access to the venue from 9 a.m. the first day to midnight the second day.

“We offer a 48-hour package that allows you to take your time, decorate, and host the rehearsal and dinner the day before, and then feel relaxed the day of your wedding and reception,” said Gustafson.

“We offer a host of rentals—from arbors to linens and everything in between,” said Gustafson.

During the day of the ceremony, each package includes access to space for getting ready.

The on-site bridal suite, the Farmhouse Cottage, was once an old farmhouse in Belle Fourche that was close to being burnt down.

Gustafson and Horst, with the help of their husbands and friends, had the structure moved to their property.

“It sat on the property as a fun photo op,” said Horst “In May of 2022, we renovated it, and now it’s a cute bridal and honey suite.”

“We have no middle men & love the fact that the two of us are super involved & available to our couples from day one.”

On the exterior, old, weathered paint covers the wood as modern doors welcome guests into the space.

“It has the fun shabby-chic outside with a modern farmhouse vibe inside,” she added.

The cottage is also available to add on as a honeymoon suite and is listed on Airbnb

Swiftel Center

The process of planning a wedding can be overwhelming. It is often difficult to find the right venue, caterer, decorations, and equipment to achieve the perfect day.

But what if planning a wedding could all be done in one place?

Located in Brookings, the Swiftel Center does exactly that. The 30,000-square-foot arena acts as a one-stop shop that offers a variety of in-house, full-service amenities for events, such as weddings.

“One thing that is great about the Swiftel Center is that we have a dedicated event manager to help with wedding planning,” said Swiftel Center director of marketing Ashley Biggar

Biggar says they will guide clients every step of the way. In the initial meeting, the event manager plans a tour, answers questions, and determines what space is most suitable for the couple's vision.

multi purpose FACILITY

The Swiftel Center is home to a variety of events like concerts, galas, benefits, rodeos, sporting events, and more.

Clients are able to choose from a variety of spaces to accommodate guest lists from 50 people to 5,000 people.

The Swiftel Center allows the couple to have creative control over their spaces. The venue provides staple pieces, including chairs, tables, lights, and drapings. Clients then have the option to add finer details to match their desired style.

“If the couple wants glitz and glamor or something more modern and simplistic, we can do that,” said Biggar.

If a piece of equipment is not offered within their in-house options, the Swiftel Center will work with outside vendors.

“We have a lot of great partners around the area,” said Biggar.

Biggar adds that their event manager will be the point of contact for other vendors leading up to and on the day of the wedding. Additionally, couples have the option to decorate the rooms themselves or bring in a decorator of their choice.

“We work with the couples and the other parties involved, helping make their vision a reality within our space,” said Biggar.

Clients don’t need to stress about food or drinks, as the venue offers in-house catering services. Prior to the wedding, the Swiftel Center works with clients to curate the perfect menu.

“We provide a complimentary tasting so couples can try options they would like to have,” said Biggar.

EVERY COUPLE IS SO UNIQUE & DIFFERENT. WE’RE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE & HELP WITH WHATEVER THEY WANT.”

As a special option, couples can customize the recipes by modifying them to meet their preferences or bring their own to recreate during the tasting. All wedding dining and service will be taken care of by the in-house food and beverage department, but couples may bring their own wedding cake.

Biggar says clients are able to rest easy knowing that the event manager and staff have everything under control and are supported.

“Our team wakes up every morning and they’re excited about helping and being a part of your big day,” said Biggar.

By stepping in and helping out with anything and everything, Biggar says the Swiftel Center team ensures the success of their client's big day because there is only one.

Teresa Hart , owner and financial advisor of Hart Financial Group in Mitchell, always knew she was meant to work with individuals and families in a large capacity.

“I began my career in 2005. My journey started by uploading my resume to Monster.com and shortly thereafter being hired in a local financial advisor’s office,” said Hart. “It wasn’t something I was planning, but the pieces fell into place when an office opened up. I decided to obtain my licenses and insurance licensing so I could help people in a more in-depth capacity.”

A major part of Hart’s practice is helping couples navigate their wealth. She strives for her clients to be just as excited about building wealth as they are when planning their wedding.

Hart shares more about herself and financial advice for newlyweds.

Do you have an uncommon financial tip for newlyweds?

Consider taking Financial Peace University (FPU). FPU is a ninelesson course that teaches you how to save for emergencies, pay off debt fast, spend wisely, and invest for your future. We have a ton of fun in a relaxed, safe space. Many of my couples tell me it should be a mandatory pre-marriage class.

What should be the first financial step in married life?

Communicaion before, during, and after you’re married about your finances. Share the good, the bad, and the ugly. Starting your marriage with this type of intimate conversation is imperative. Over a candle lit dinner or pillow talk, whisper words of wealth to each other.

Why should people consider a prenup?

Feeling protected is something most people cherish. Neither spouse should be offended when asked to discuss and sign a prenup. Years ago, most times the man asked for the pre-nup. In more recent years, the woman is in a position of wealth and assets and is the one initiating that conversation. We need to come to the realization it’s no longer taboo to have this discussion. Again, make it an intimate conversation based on protection for one another and protection for future children.

What else are you passionate about?

My greatest passions, besides my work, are my children, helping others when I can, and pickleball.

What is next for you?

I’m excited to be taking on some new leadership roles within my broker dealer as well as starting classes this fall for my Behavioral Finance Designation. I have also been tossing the idea around of starting a podcast called Your Financial Pulse. That is still in the works. I am going to continue to help people the best way I know how, guiding them towards financial freedom and ultimately living a life of financial wealth. FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT TERESAMHART.NET.+
