Tuesday Tastings
At food truck Tuesdays at Canyon Lake Park in the summers, I always enjoy the different cuisine that comes out of a vehicle.
Summer Rush
We try to hike as much as we can in the summer, but that’s our busy time so we squeeze it in when we can.
Black Hills Bites
Anytime I can go out and get a good burger in the hills, I am a happy guy. Sugar Shack and Lewie’s Burgers & Brews are pretty high on the list.
Better Together
We thankfully enjoy spending as much time together as possible, so our favorite things are the same—except for maybe Hallmark Christmas movies and football. That’s where we differ. Guess amongst yourselves who is who..

Addiction comes in all shapes and sizes. For Kattie Lail, hers began at 15.
In July 2021, she became a peer coach at Face It TOGETHER, where she hopes to help people get back on their feet.
“Face It TOGETHER peer coaching is evidence-based, confidential and available to anyone impacted by addiction, including loved ones,” said Ally Krupinsky, director of communications.
Lail explains that because each coach has experience with addiction themselves, they recognize that each case is different.
“A one-size-fits-all approach takes out the value of the individual. I think it’s so important to treat the person struggling with addiction as the expert on their life, rather than trying to usher everyone down the same path,” said Lail.

WHAT METHODS WERE MOST EFFECTIVE FOR YOU WHEN YOU WERE OVERCOMING YOUR ADDICTION?
For me it was all about the support. I had tried to get to a place of wellness before, but only made it so far relying on my own skills and thinking. I opened myself up to what advice people were offering me. Some of the things they suggested weren’t for me, but some of them changed my life.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST THING TO OVERCOME IN RECOVERY?
The hardest thing to overcome was the shame. While I was using, I became a person that I never wanted to be and never thought that I could be. I had to reconcile that with the person that I truly was. For me, that is a huge part of the reason I coach: being able to let that person know that they are worth it, even when they feel like they aren’t.
DO YOU HAVE ADVICE FOR THOSE STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTIONS OF THEIR OWN?
Reach out for help! Struggling with addiction is one of the most isolated and lonely places to be. When you develop a sense of support and find people that you can share your thoughts and struggles with, things start to change. Find out how they did it, ask questions, and trust yourself.
HOW SHOULD PEOPLE KNOW WHEN TO COME TO COACHING?
It’s not about us or our agenda, it’s about how we can help you get to the place that you would like to be. There is no judgement here. We have been there, we get it, and we care.
HOW DO PEOPLE GET STARTED?
Face It TOGETHER has a great onboarding team that really works to meet people where they are. We figure out what works best for you. You’ll take our assessments and get paired with a coach who’s a good fit for you and your needs.
